As a guy that is 5'3 and loves basketball, Muggsy Bogues is a big inspiration. I definitely know im not good enough to play pro or anything and thats okay that's not my aspiration either. But just getting better and improving myself is what i really love.
anyone can be good to do anything you just need to find your niche. shorter dudes have quicker feet and agility than taller people. better shot too. use it to your advantage and dont play to a taller mans advantages.
Him and Matt talkin they moms passing from cancer really hit man..🙏🏾 lost my grandma to cancer within 30 days of diagnose. Fuck cancer rip them queens man🙏🏾
Lost my grandpa same way.. weird thing was he went in to fix an artery cuz his enlarged heart.. never did a follow up and about a month later he went in with trouble breathing and they found cancer, never did a follow up and he passed away a few weeks later
Met Muggsy at the YMCA about 10 years ago. He was super nice and kind enough to sign my Hornets snapback. Bogues was top-7 in assists in six straight seasons, top-10 in steals in three of those seasons, had 146 career NBA double-doubles, and had the best assist-turnover ratio in NBA history.
@@juliusdeloach not really because most of his passes were either going upwards or he had to bring the ball up higher to make passes which would make his passes more vulnerable to get stolen
Nah.its actually the opposite.from where he was really small and undersized.he had better chance of getting a pass stolen..what he was able to do in the NBA was actually kinda crazy
Man mugsy bogues has so much heart. There’s a video called “tough enough” from the 1980s nba superstars volume 1 and it shows guys like mugsy and spud Webb destroying the rest of the league. It’s worth watching. All the smoke continues to bring it! 💨🏀
Thank U 🙏 Mugsy Bogues for being that inspirational of 5'3" n playing around the Giants of the NBA 🏀 . Mugsy is my height n of course I didn't play basketball 🏀 like Mugsy did, but I did play against big guys on pickup games at the Union League Boys N Girls Club in Chicago, Commercial Park, Smiths Park, Echart Park & Humboldlt Park. Played in tournaments, had a great 👍 time as a kid 👦 . Thanks 🙏 Stephen N Matt for another great 👍 show. U guys R the bomb 💣 n continue for more great 👍 shows. Thanks 🙏 Again Mugsy!!! God Bless U All 🙏 .
This interview was so nostalgic. I grew up in central Pennsylvania about an hour north of Baltimore and We heard so much about the legend of the these Dunbar teams. Back when everything was Word of mouth before the Internet and social media you only heard about these guys. So to actually hear the story from the mouth of Mr. mugsy is priceless. 💯
410 stand up. Thank you for this episode 🙏🏽 Muggsy is still a Baltimore Legend. That Dunbar team was Legit. Growing up in Baltimore is still hard and to make it out and still come back to the community says a lot. Double Salute 🫡🫡
@@ALoveSupreme64-65 I hear you and I’m pretty sure you not capping at all, but before I go back into this video, does the cottonmouth keep going on and off tho throughout the whole video?
@@LILE1534 I really just went back through and it does. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. I must have stopped watching and just listened at some point. It’s a good interview but not for the faint of heart like us
B-More has been pumping out ball players (RIP Reggie Lewis and Len Bias). Muggsy was always a fan favorite in Charlotte and had game to back it up. Being from NC the Hornets were everything. The purple and teal jersey was fire along with their Starter gear.
This could have been a 3 hour interview. Mugs brought up several topics that could have been fleshed out. He mentioned Kendall Gill twice. Gill was one of two Jordan prototypes before Kobe. The other was Harold Minor. Gill was nasty!! You asked about Len Bias but he didn't expound. At the time the debate was Jordan vs Bias with many saying Bias was better. Not in my book but that was the frenzy. I know it was a little before y'all's time though. Lastly, he touched on guys not being able to post him up. The mistake players made was trying to post up him and Spud because they were short. It never worked. Guys with no post games trying to post, then they missed, got ripped, entry pass got stolen, etc. Basically an automatic turnover but guys never learned NOT to post the King 5 footer! Great interview!
Love the shout out to Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. Those two guys get crucified for not winning. Let's give both prime Tmac an Vince 8 all stars to play with like they do in todays era and they'd had chips as well. Mac played with one all star in his 8 prime years and so did Vince.
Muggsy Bogues always stood out on the court for me. He was my father's favorite basketball player because of his size & energy. Great interview that covered just about everything I wanted covered.
I saw a interview with Shawn Kemp saying that he was "amazed" at the things that Mugsey could do on the professional level. "Simply amazed " Can you guys look into getting Calvin Murphy on your podcast? He is a Hall of Famer and a legend in Houston! Great interview guys!
@@calsums914 I'm aware of the background that Calvin Murphy has and everything that transpired in his Family. At the same time I believe he was acquitted of the charges levied against him. There are a lot of good things that he's done in the Houston community that resonate in a good light. I'm speaking of his exploits on the court. At the end of the day, it's a matter of opinion...
Great interview I will never forget watching space jams and he certainly stood out to me and once he started speaking I instantly heard his Bmore accent
Muggsy is 1 of the most articulate people I've ever listened to. Such a great player and brought alot of attention to the game for his play on the court and heart to go in a big man's league and show them his skills🙌🙌
I know Muggsy has a million stories, but one I remember is when he went to Five Star ( which was the premier camp prior to ABCD and Nike).Muggsy was being Muggs.Just a defensive juggernaut stealing the ball and running the break with flair.Rick Pitino during one of his " stations" made a comment to the effect: we have some players who like to go behind their backs and between their legs, but that's not the style of play we do here etc.( he was talking about Muggsy)I think Pitino was coaching at Providence at the time.I think Muggsy got the Best Playmaker and Best Defender award. When he went back to Baltimore, among the numerous college letters was one from Providence.Muggsy didnt even open it and threw it straight in the trash. After Pitino tried to diss him, he knew he would've tried to change Muggsy's game for the worst.Im just sorry Big John ( R.I.P) didnt sign Muggsy.Georgetown was a defensive terror back then.Muggsy stealing the ball and Ewing blocking them inside. They would've gotten another chip
He may not have had a stellar and hall of fame career, but to play 13 years in one of the toughest eras of sports, especially basketball at only 5’3 and able to steel the ball from Jordan and other greats is impressive
I remember when Dunbar played Camden ( NJ ) with Billy Thompson and Kevin Wall. The Camden crowd was laughing when Muggsy came out for warm ups. When the game started I think Muggsy ripped Wall on the 1st 2 possessions. He had their guards shook.By the end of the game the Camden faithful was giving Muggsy a standing ovation after him and Dunbar blew out Camden the top ranked team in the country. It was a sight to see.Thats what Muggsy did to people.. He changed their minds and convinced them he was a force on both ends.5'3"!!!! Damn the cheerleaders are taller than him I still remember one kid saying.
I dont know does M.Bugues know this fun fact....but here in Croatia and ex Yugoslavia he is the legend, becouse he is the only player who coud shut down Drazen Petrovic. Basketball Urban legend in Croatia says, Drazen didn't like to play against Bugues. Only him coud stop Drazen.
Underrated GOAT for sure. Muggsy Bogues does NOT get nearly the amount of credit he deserves. And he could dunk too! It was amazing to watch him play when I was growing up! A true talent, one of the most important players in NBA history. Salute to Muggsy Bogues man 💯
Can y'all get Sabonis, Tayshaun Prince, Ginoboli,Nick Anderson Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Kenny Anderson, Reggie Miller, Randy Moss, Dez Bryant, Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, Deshaun Watson, Josh Allen, Larry Bird, Manning Brothers, and others
What an inspiration. At 5'3" he is the smallest man to ever play in the NBA and he did it on a high level for 10 plus years. He accomplished the impossible and paved the way for so many players. Based on all the aforementioned , he should be in the HOF.
I remember the first time I met Muggsy Bouges in the barbershop back in 1995. I was 5 years old and bro was sitting beside me getting a haircut. My pops was cool with him and LJ. He signed my basketball. Real Charlotte Legend fasho!
Muggsy’s story is inspiring, but when the convo got eras.🤦🏿♂️. Muggsy would have been a great gaurd today but ok. He saying he would have a field day which may be true. But he would get crossed. We have some elite ball handlers in todays game. Guarding without hand checking is harder than gaurding without. Not impossible ofc but when u can touch up a player a little bit and be physical. It makes the game a lil easier for defenders. Because man gaurding Kyrie without hand checking🤦🏿♂️.
I don't know if my comment will be seen but, I think it would be cool if you guys interviewed some state high school champion basketball coaches and maybe some D2 and D3 college coaches. Would be dope!!!
Man i really thought aquille carr was gonna be the next Mugsy coming out the same city being about the same size, aquille was set to go to seton hall like Mugsy almost did and frfr aquille was more explosive and more talented on the offensive side he just succumbed to his environment and ended up making stupid decisions and just throwing it all away smh
best quote about Mugsy: "The worst part about playing Mugsy is there was always 2 of em out there! I'd see one of em coming on my right to steal the ball, I'd turn to protect it, and the other Mugsy on my left would take it."
Golden State has too many inconsistencies…. well that comment did not age well. I’m sure Steph will give Muggs a little flack over that comment. Matt called it, he had faith in GS. Well done.
