I saw Muggsy at the grocery store a few months back and said..."muuuuggssssyy" and he replied with "what up, big guy?" We're the same height. Humble dude and a great player.
Muggsy was just a pure point guard. He's one of those guys, when you're picking teams, you always want to be on his team, Not just because he was great, which he was, but because he always made everyone around him better. You know he is going to make the right play every time. And if you're open he will get you the ball exactly where you want it.
@@GrahamCStrouse you bet . Look at his speed, playing with normal/regular people /players he dont need to pass the ball even, he wins the game by himself, on every single fast break LOL I bet his 100m time must be real close to the olympic record, for sure
Something Wild Muggsy was actually pretty good. He's still the Hornets' all time leader in assists and steals. He wasn't a big time scorer but he shot well from the field (45%).
Thankyou Jesus ..... God blessed this man , to become great ...... pure hustle , talent , fundamentals . and not to mention heart "" its always a joy to see a blessing , Jesus Christ is Lord . @kinoshi44htown **
If you're 5"3 and trying to pitch your abilities to a basketball team - emphasising that you have really good fundamentals is probably a big part of the sell
+homie8333 michael jordan is a well known asshole till this day the stuff on tv is all fake he was the worst trash talker is rude to fans even other celebs really sucks to know a legend is really a dick
theres no proof of that, its just heresay. But if he did, it wasnt personal. Basketball used to be a trash talking game in the 90's and Jordan was an Ultra competitor. I wouldnt be suprised, but Jordan would say or do anything to WIN. The league today is softer than a baby's ass.
What an amazing player Muggsy was. The height difference is almost comical until you realize he was really good. 15 years in the NBA! What more needs to be said?
That's not how it works in this case. Take a similar example. Say someone plays 2001 - 2005. Using that logic they would have played 4 years (5-1) but they actually played 5 years (2001,2002,2003,2004,2005) You forget than in actual maths you are taking away the lower number, but in this case, he played 1987 - 2001, including those years. These are the years he played: 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 Count them up and you'll see it's 15.
Muggsy Bogues is a legend. He's just 5 ft 3 which is six inches shorter than the Average American. And he's not only playing in a league full of giants, but he's actually starting. There will never be another Muggsy Bogues.
Insane skills. He used his size as an advantage because he was closer to the ground so he had more control of the ball, besides big players had a hard time to lean that low to get the ball from him. And his light and speed was a match to any other player there.
I remember watching him as a kid and he was good and small but now I look back and realize what a special player he really was for his height. There may never be someone that small ever again to play in the NBA.
divinesense all these short ass ppl think they will make the nba cuz muggsy is 5'3. quit dreaming! muggsy was built like a TANK and he was fast as hell! could beat anyone of the fast break! but he is one in 5 billion
His size made it amazing to see him play... It was also an advantage because everybody else was super tall and he was like slide right by... One of the best. So damn entertaining
This goes to tell you that Impossible is nothing! 5'3" Player and still was Pro Status in the NBA!! me standing at 5'9" always thought I was too short for Pro Basketball but height isn't everything, what matters is the heart and determination you have to get yourself to higher places! its all in you! and Muggsy just proved everyone that. Oh and don't forger Darren Sproles either in the NFL.
Wasn't a dream at all of mine I was just pessimistic about it due to my height. I just couldn't imagine myself in pro despite how good or bad I was at the moment, well back in high school to be exact.
You have to ask yourself... If this man could compete well at the NBA level, at only five foot 3 inches tall... Could you imagine what he could have accomplished at even six feet tall?? People don't realize that when you are at a major disadvantage you have to be that much better to compete. God knows how far this man would have made it if he was born six foot six like Jordan. Perhaps we would have had a new best basketball player of all time.
I think he Wouldn't have had the same drive to be as good BECAUSE he knew he had bigger strides to makes. His height was an advantage, than a disadvantage
+Levi Rabayev Just the individual's passion really. I don't need to explain will power, which we all have. Not trying to argue, I am not much into basketball anymore. At all.
he was fast and knew how to play the game super well. He worked harder than all of them. He earned every bit of it fair in square. Mugsy you are an inspiration and a true man.
It looks like when your little brother plays with your Playstation while you were away and played NBA 2016 and then went ahead and edit a players height to the lowest setting while increasing their skills.
Just admit it. Muggsy is one of the most underrated players in NBA history. The man was the shortest player to play in the NBA, but never let the height get the best of him. He played good basketball at his height.
I met Muggsy today (2/4/2023) at a basketball tournament that me and my team had, he hosted it and it was super fun, I got a shirt signed by him and an old basketball card I had of him, we took pictures and he is sooooooooo sweet and very nice and humble, I’m so happy I got to met you Muggsy Bouges #muggsybouges🏀🏀🏀💗😊
CognizantCheddar Muggsy Bogues started the '97-'98 season as a Charlotte Hornet, but he only played in 2 games before getting traded to Golden State in exchange for B.J. Armstrong. Playing in only two games (both of them as a backup point guard to David Wesley) for Charlotte, averaging 8.0 minutes per game, 3.0 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.0 bpg, 1.0 spg) prior to getting traded to Golden State must've signified somewhat of a sad ending to an otherwise historical Charlotte Hornets playing career from '88-'89 to merely two games in '97-'98. Was it Muggsy's chronic knee injuries that forced him to permanently hand over the starting PG job to David Wesley before getting forced out by George Shinn just two games into the '97-'98 season? Or was it then-Hornets coach Dave Cowens' intent to cut Muggsy's playing time to 8 minutes per game just to save himself from blowing out his knees again that upset him.
Muggsy's ability to handle the basketball was a thing of beauty. Think about how impressive it is to lead the NBA in assist/turnover ratio for 5 years at 5'3? Guys covering MB were a foot taller or more, you would would think it would be difficult for him to pass the ball!! I remember an interview I saw with Bogues' high school coach Bob Wade. He said something that has always stuck with me: "Muggsy could not be pressed, ever." Why? He could dribble with his head up like most of us casually stroll and he had such extreme quickness that it was literally futile to pressure him. It was a privilege to watch him play basketball.
haha. I remember the hornets back in their old days, living in NC and seeing them first come out as a franchise in the NBA, this dude was always a beast. He was easily one of the most popular players at the time, so damn fast. Pretty much made me a Hornets fan.
***** Really? In female basket if you have a little bit of talent that's good enough… the taller girls aren't really that tall, and since they don't have such a high quality league as the NBA they don't really shouldn't worry about height in some positions as long as they have the talent
To me that is a wonder of the world when a guy that short can play so long in the NBA. I just watched a 5' 9 guy beat the warriors, Isiah Thomas of the Celtics and that amazed me. But Muggsy is even smaller. To me that is REAL talent when you can do that ! Blows me away!
This guy is awesome he responded to me on twitter and retweeted me. He's a great. Doesn't matter how big you are. It's how you play. He should have been a Center.
I never thought size was important, actually I thought the smaller you are the more advantage you have especially over taller players. Look at Earl Boykins, Allen Iverson, Tim Hardaway, John Stockton, Spud Webb. Surely these guys aren't the most strong or the tallest, but they just dominate the floor by just pure talent and raw skill.
@@kingphil4073with your attitude there are definitely things you can’t do but you should really listen to his advice and not let anyone (mainly yourself I’m guessing), tell you you can’t do something
wow he just cuts them through! thats brilliant! what many people thought to be his weakness is actually his stregnth! this shows that all sizes are usefull because he has opportunities that nobody else does!
I don't follow the game much, although this video was extremely entertaining! I'm sorry to say I had never heard of Muggsy Bogues before I happened to be watching an episode of "Royal Pains" and he was a guest star. What fun! And I could see how his size was a great benefit to his game skills...sneak right under the noses of the 6 1/2 foot players. : )
There is nobody short enough talented enough and driven enough to go to the nba Muggsy was driven to be a baller before he was even 10 years old he was putting in twice the work as a naturally gifted person height wise, people today think the nba is only for tall guys thats why nobody as short or shorter than muggsy has ever been signed causs nobody is willing to go the distance and its sad.
This dude deserves more recognition than just being a short dude in the NBA. He was creative, did defense, offense and made shots. The man is a fucking legend.
I used to get a kick outta watching Muggsy play because, in the normal realm of things, he was average height but on an NBA court, he really did look like a midget. You quickly forgot that though once you watched him play. I'd be hard pressed to think of a player who had better ball handling skills. Watching him drive the court with the ball was smooth as silk. Flawless. And not only smooth but, fast...one of the cleanest dribbles I've ever seen...before, during or since.
Muggsy was the man! He was my hero. I couldn’t find inspiration in the likes of Jordan or Kobe. Being 5’11, everyone was significantly taller than me. Then I saw Muggsy going up against giants with relative ease and he was 5’4 way shorter than me. He etched my passion towards basketball. Even though it was short lived (we got ass kicked in the high school playoffs 78-83), he’s my still my hero!
