Rare footage of Ali in Ireland before his fight against Al 'Blue' Lewis in Croke Park, Dublin. It was made to promote the bout in America but was never broadcast as far as i can tell. 'That's Crazy!' I'll post the full fight soon...
ALI, The greatest sports legend, and personality ever. But more than that, he has remained a world humanitarian to this day. Boxing is one on one. No ball sport team, let alone individual player, can ever match what Ali accomplished alone as an individual and character. Name the memorable Football or Basketball star interviews. And if the was one, was it every time a microphone was placed in front of them? No. Yet Ali did that all his life. Most can't even pronounce "Muhammad Ali." ;)
Please dnt take anything bad about what comment he made on his opponents, just the way he talks. He has good heart. Allah Almighty forgives his shortcomings and elevate his status in Al barzakh and grants him Jannat Ul Firdaus ameen
Fitz, thanks for this from the other side of the pond. This is one I've never seen. I should mention that my book TAO OF MUHAMMAD ALI has been quite well liked in Ireland. I'm hoping to visit the Emerald Isle next year when my next book, APPROACHING ALI, is published. My mum was Irish and I've always felt a strong pull to County Clare (where Ali's mother's family is from), as well as to Dublin. Again, thank you for this great rarity.
Fitz303 this is brilliant thank you so much for posting this, hope youve read the great fight,a book by Dave Hannigan it mentions this recording and is a brilliant read.just want to say thanks again great work!
Legendary boxer Muhammad Ali has received an invitation from Ennis Town Council to visit his ancestral Irish home. The former world heavyweight champion, now 67, is expected to visit the Clare County capital during a trip to Ireland later this month. Ali will walk in the steps of his great grandfather Abe Grady, who emigrated from his home on the Turnpike Road in Ennis to the United States in the 1860s.

We have became very modernised over the years. If you come here to Ireland do not go to Dublin. It's a big typical city and nothing very Irish about it. Head to County Donegal or Clare.. Actually go anywhere in Ireland that is not Dublin and you will witness views very similar to this video
Ryan McCann Hi Ryan, I could possibly check for you, it's probably an Irish Tourism video as far as I can tell, or perhaps RTE, I've featured it in a boxing Documentary for the BBC before so it must have been cleared to use so ill see what it went down as? Barry McGuigan actually had it in a box of videos and I found it there would you believe, he said this might be of some use to you, I said it was gold dust Barry so I shared it here also.... Cheers.
On 14 August 1652, Cromwell began his Ethnic Cleansing of Ireland, ordering that the Irish were to be transported overseas, starting with 12,000 Irish prisoners sold to Barbados. The infamous “Connaught or Hell” proclamation was issued on 1 May 1654, where all Irish were ordered to be removed from their lands and relocated west of the Shannon or be transported to the West Indies
well i suppose Fiji could be considered exotic mate?:) 30c, beats the big chill back home! indeed keep up the good fight against prejudice, thanks to everyone here that has. again no worries,i have some great footage of the fight at croke pk il put up when i get back. yup cant wait to see nando return eh!
No one is disputing that Irish indentured slaves were sold in the Caribbean along with Indentured Slaves from the British Isles. But the treatment of White European slaves differs greatly from African slaves. Punishment during the Slavery period was swift and harsh. To the morality of the 20th C mind it does indeed seem cruel. Why stop at that period? Why not go back to when St Patrick was taken as a slave to Ireland? Slavery was practised throughout history in Europe until the early 19th C.
Subsequently some 52,000 Irish, mostly women and sturdy boys and girls, were sold to Barbados and Virginia alone. Another 30,000 Irish men and women were taken prisoners and ordered transported and sold as slaves. In 1656, Cromwell’s Council of State ordered that 1000 Irish girls and 1000 Irish boys be rounded up and taken to Jamaica to be sold as slaves to English planters.
and plantations from 1651 to 1660 than the total existing “free” population of the Americas! But all did not go smoothly with Cromwell’s extermination plan, as Irish slaves revolted in Barbados in 1649. They were hanged, drawn and quartered and their heads were put on pikes, prominently displayed around Bridgetown as a warning to others
Antoine Walsh was a Catholic Jacobite, An Irish Slave privateer operating out of Nantes. He became extremely wealthy from the French Slave trade. Jacobites were against British protestants and backed a French/ Spanish Catholic invasion of Britain to restore a Catholic King on the throne. As a Jacobite he was no friend of the English monarchy. Are you claiming the French dealt in Irish indentured slaves? I think you are either misformed or you are twisting the facts
Every country is beautiful, just like this planet is beautiful, but people make it bad. For e.g Afghanistan is a beautiful country, but the people inside it make it bad, so is North Korea, Central African Republic, Somalia etc etc. If a country changes then so will the people and it will become beautiful again.
@@Anonymousxxiiii the same is true in reverse. If you swap out one population with, to be blunt, less civilised one you will end up with a worse country. Muhammad Ali's beliefs about race were not all that different to the ascendant "far-right" in this country. "Blue birds fly with blue birds, red birds fly with red birds".
The full story of Antoine Walsh; The French based Irish privateer who made his fortune from Slavery is in the book The Jacobites By Frank McLynn. You will see he was no friend of the Protestant British Aristocracy
but rather because the practice was interfering with the profits of the Royal African Company! It is interesting to note that from 1680 to 1688, the Royal African Company sent 249 shiploads of slaves to the Indies and American Colonies, with a cargo of 60,000 Irish and Africans. More than 14,000 died during passage.
My Original point was that Indentured Slavery is not the same as Slavery that Africans endured. wikipedia is renouned for its misinformation. Antoine Walsh was a Jocobite. Perhaps you have the wrong man.
You claimed that Irish Children were sold as slaves in the West Indies in 1400. Before John Cabot had even heard of the place. Indentured slavery was practised throughout Europe. But Slavery that was practised on Africans was completely different.
The Cuchulain of Kentucky, he was shown nothin but love when he came home to Ireland, it must have been great when he found out that his Irish great grandfather was a fine and loving Irishman from Ennis county Clare, and not one of the horror stories most African Americans find when they look back in history, something we Irish know a thing or two about also.
well if they are from the us it makes no diiference what their racial background is . they are american not irish, theres a world of difference bewtween some 1 that is irish ( born and bred ) and some 1 that fancies being irish cause they want to be special /different
That is the exact point Indentured (slaves) servitude is not the same as (African) slavery. The evil animalistic monarchy as you call them sent as many British people into indentured Slavery over the same period. What of Ireland being the main Slave traders in the early middle ages then. Or are those people not worthy of being considered? The main Slave trading family dealing with the French Atlantic slave trade were Irish. The Walsh family based in Nantes,
that still does not explain why my country ( ireland ) has ( untill the last 4/5 years ) always been dirt poor . if we were involved in slavery should n't we have had money at some stage even if it was 100 years ago . also why did n't anyone bring slaves over to ireland. your argument kinda falls apart
i never claimed Irish children were sold in 1400, where did i write that??? You put that in the post you have deleted. The indentured Slave system practised on Europeans by other Europeans was not the same as the Slavery system imposed on Africans by Europeans.
What are you on about? The Irish were not enslaved by the British. Are you trying to score victim points? Irishmen owned Slave plantations in the US south. Dublin prospered greatly from the Slade trade the same as all European cities.
i have no knowledge of that book . its very jugdemental of you to generalise a whole race of people just by one book by one person. even if ONE man that may or may not have been irish ( very debatable) happened to have slave/s then thats not to say that we all were . so if there is one peado in ireland are we all are child molesters . also IRELAND was never a imperial state if we were we would have had MONEY/POWER . why dont you find out about OUR HISTORY before you judge us
But that is not what you implied.you implied his Irish ancestor was a rapist and slave owner which is just a LIE fact proves otherwise!Anyway why would this slave ownership thing apply to me?ive never owned slaves, and neither have my ancestors so what exactly is your argument?and why bring it up?
