Dr. Pearse Lyons, president of Alltech, describes the special day he brought Muhammad Ali to Ennis, a small town in Ireland, and hometown of Muhammad Ali's great, great grandfather.
The Irish are more respectful than the Americans after he won gold in the Olympics for America he went to a restaurant in his home town and they refused to serve him
I'm an old dude. I remember a day when Muhammad Ali was hated. Ali has taught us to reevaluate some of our presuppositions and angle in which we viewed reality. He seemed to be uniquely qualified to do this on so many levels.
He would hardly be a Hero to you and the Republican Anti British crap i have seen you comment on maybe you should just stick to Reading An poblacht and Dreaming of a United ireland Regards from Northern Ireland you know in the UK
When u ask people about Mohammad Ali, everyone talks about his humanity, love to the people around the globe instead of talking about how great he was in the ring. This is the real greatness.
It's a combination of both. Inside the ring and outside the ring. I've never seen a non politician non king non leader who was praised like him. He was unofficially the president of the world let's be honest
@@clarencewilliamsperturbed7240 he didn't really get any support during the late 60s. He didn't really get any credentials till the end of his boxing career. There will never be anyone quite like him in our lifetime.
@@clarencewilliamsperturbed7240 and I didn't remember any well known African Americans supporting him either like Joe Lewis or Jackie Robinson on his stance against the War, the flag flies both ways depending upon the political wind of the day. At the end of the day he had the balls to be a conscious objector...
Irish or African who cares ?? he was the greatest of all time (as a boxer edited),because he was a great man stood for what he believed in didn't care what the establishment thought .. I stand and salute him ...
I hope the Irish never forget their history and the role they’ve played in the history of so many ‘coloured’ people. Even the Indian freedom struggle had a few high profile Irish participants.
Irish seem to stand for justice even when doing so may go against their immediate interests. Stay blessed all. My send Salaam to Ali whose words and actions are inspirational joys of life.
We have in our culture a sense of brotherhood with all peoples who at some time were made to feel less than human. Ali was a man that was and still is adored by the Irish for his unbreakable spirit and also his magnificent wit
I had the Honour and privilege of meeting him in his prime and got his Autograph he was the finest Specimen of a Human Being I ever seen. It was 1972 in Dublin at Uppermans Hotel Later to become a Skeeing Resort I will always Remember it.
He came to our small town in Nuneaton England , invited by the chairman of our local foot all club , an Irishman Noel Kelly . Everyone loved him there too , he was and always will be the greatest .
God bless Pearse Lyons, his own story is one of inspiration to many. I made a point of going to Ennis to see Ali that day, a boyhood dream come true for me. Thanks to Pearse Lyons.
When he came to New Zealand he visited the working class schools one of them being Heretunga college in Upper Hutt that I attended ,an event that those that were there will never forget!!
Other than blacks, Irish have more heavyweight champion titles than any other racial/ethnic group. Black gangs first formed in the cities to defend themselves against the Irish gangs. The Irish were the real tough guys.
@Nas Kane yeah obviously he is AA, but then again many prominent AA brothers like Muhammed Ali, Malcom X and even jay-z in 99 problems refer to themselves as Africans as well! which they have the right too nobody can african, european, asian can take that right from them! the only thing one can question about AA being African is culturewise but even there, elements of AA culture ar remnants of African culture! so my point is AA are free to identify as whatever they want!
@@kingwamarada3451 unfortunately fury could beat him when Ali was in his prime, fury is too big and too skilled, size matters, look at the size difference between joe frazier and tyson fury
@Nunquam Non Paratus In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Prophet Jesus was only a man, messenger of God, NOT the son of God. Look at the Gospel of Barnabus (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n1AaisFHnzs.html). There is only one God, not multiple. Otherwise, there would be chaos. Matthew 26:39 “He (JESUS) went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed to God (ALLAH).
I'm Irish American Lived in Ireland for over 8 yrs Muhammed Ali Was every nationality He truly was one of Earths Greatest children... He belonged to Every Nation We were gifted to walk the Earth The same time he was with us
great boxer. good but complicated man, like they all are. don't make him a god. what he did with Frazier and Malcome X was not good. the black muslims ate him up.
There is no doubt that Mohammed Ali did lots of great things.....first in my view he saved boxing...end of story...the multi- miliionaire boxers of today owe him the biggest debt of gratitude...and of course he was THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.....there will never be another man like him.....I loved everything about him...may he Rest In Peace....

I think he saved boxing as in the early 1960’s it was dying a slow death.......not sure about Malcolm X and Black Muslims thing....purely as a boxer and an entertainer...there was no-one else like him....
@@michaelwhite8069 he patterned himself about the wrestler Gorgeous George to build up gates. in the 30's Max Baer was hugely popular with the press and had many nicknames. but there was too much love in Maxie's family, and when he killed Frankie Campbell in the ring (he sent his kids through college), he was never the same. it was a 'game" no more.

True! I've seen GAA football matches where play had to be stopped numerous times due to mass brawls breaking out between both teams! Last GAA semi-final I saw a few lads ended up with their jerseys in tatters
Aren't you downplaying the long history of black boxers before and after Ali? He was black and identified as black and lived the black experience..... that's what made Ali who he is
I had a dream with ali,in the dream I saw ali like a spiritual master who was helping the people of planet earth. Like a mission he has with humankind.i believe the dream is real.he still the greatest.
They're only accepting because of his status... My grandmother is Irish and she married a black man from the Caribbean, the Irish sure let me and my siblings know I'm nothing to do with them, even call me a "foreigner " however I haven't face as much scrutiny as my mixed race mother when she was growing up in the 60's but there is still alot of content there.. Don't believe me, ask anyone who is black/mixed race and they will tell you the exact same experience... No lie
@@heisenberg1271 ... no one race is the most racist. When I was young, I hated my own, as I felt that same way as your girlfriend. Later on, having travelled so much, I have come to the conclusions that all races harbour bigoted fools. I am sure your own kind are not all angels, aye?
Muhammad Ali was a man of character. He was drafted to fight in Vietnam and refused . He had said the vietnamese people never did anything to him . He knew all these wars America fights are banker wars . I'm glad i never went in like i wanted to . The way our military veterans are treated . It shows how our government cares about us .He was a funny man and his humor is missed . RIP MUHAMMAD ALI!
