Wepner intentionally hits Ali in the back of his head as hard as he can Announcer: (absolute silence) Ali retaliates by rabbit punching back Announcer: Ali goes for the back of the head and brutally attacks chuck with an illegal rabbit punch!!!!
When Ali went down he didn't get knocked down the other guy step Ali foot that's why Ali fall down. These commentary claiming he. Got knocked down but ain't gonna lie the last punch of this fight he got knocked out that's was clean
@@brucescott4261 exactly! Were you? I like how people say Ali was the greatest and never seen him fight. Just go by what their grandfather or any old person says
What’s awesome about this videois that it displays the racism in America at this time. video can’t lie and has no choice but to be neutral but the referee and the commentators are untruthful. This video shows Muhammad Ali getting hit in the back of the head 11 times then in retaliation he hits Wepner in the back of his head four times. In the instant replay after the round was over, they only showed what Muhammad Ali did. The commentator tries to play down anything that Wepner did in the black commentators nervously laugh as they basically call sign what the lead commentator is saying only one had the guts to mention there was any wrongdoing and that was very subtle.

The two black commentators were cautious about defending Muhammad Ali too much because they knew if they did the consequences could be the loss of their job at the very least and that moves. I can’t imagine what the consequences would’ve been, but they would’ve been severe.
Ali: "Ref you're blind! Can't you see he's rabbit punching me in the back of my head?!" Referee: *Dark glasses and walking stick in the ring* "How dare you call me blind!"
they said ali was the one doing the hitting behind the head but any normal person with eyes can see its chuck wepner who started the hitting behind the head and the ref did nothing when ali pointed it out
Keith Kirkpatrick yeah but hitting behind a boxers head is taboo that usually gets you point deduction or disqualified quicker than when a fighter holds a guy rushing in. Fact
He was measured as faster than Bruce Lee, although using analog equipment; but he was never a hard puncher (such as Shavers or Foreman): that would have made the difference.
Starting in Round 2, wepner starts dropping his hands which leaves him wide open for Ali’s left jabs and straight right hands. You can see wepners head snapping back. Wepner took a whale of a beating that way.
Maybe, But Wepner proved to be a far more durable individual since he's still alive and remarkably healthy at 84, while ended up suffering Parkinson's.
No, Ali was already moving backwards and chuck unexpectedly hit him with a body blow to the side that sent him to the canvas. If Ali hadn't of already been moving backwards the blow probably wouldn't have knocked him down.
@@jimmyc1518 Wrong. They showed Wepner stepping on Ali's feet in the National Newspapers the next Day. Wepner to his credit admitted it wasn't a legitimate knockdown.
i remember watching this bout live on telly. wepner woulda survived a k.o. had he just stayed away the final minute. ali was plain gifted with lightening punching speed
I seen the fight via closed circuit at the Embassy Hall in W.N.Y., N.J. where Chuck had many fights as a. local club fighter. I used to spar with his sparring partner at Bufano’s gym in Jersey City,N.J. . Mike Rooney who later became Ali’s chief sparring partner. They both were from Bayonne,N.J. ,Chuck was a really rugged fighter the real Rocky of Staloine’s story. anyway it was a good fight.! 🥊🥊🥊🧐🇺🇸 👍🏼👏
"You got heart but you fight like a g0damm ape" But if Rocky Balboa had been a rabbit-puncher and had knocked Creed down by stepping on his foot and shoving him, I don't think "Rocky" would have won an academy award.
@@surfsunsand which is the accurate story? 1) stallone had the idea, but got inspiration for the fight scene after watching the fight. 2) stallone's idea was based on the fight.
That wasn't pretty, hurtful even towards the end, but a tough scrap. Unbelievable courage, resistance and abnegation from Wepner, perhaps too brave for his own good. Hats off to both.
I love the way Ali circled Wepner and hit him at will with that jab.He knew how to disorientate and wittle down his opponents like no one else.I'm thinking to myself "did Holmes really have a better jab than that?"
The only heavyweight, in my estimation, who had a better jab than Ali was Lenox Lewis -- because he could throw it from the other side of town and he could knock you out with it.
Holmes definitely had more power, but what I always loved about Ali's jab is how his footwork lets him throw it at will and at awkward angles. Bugner did it similarly too and went back n fourth with Ali using it. It's that dancing footwork that makes the jab so beautiful.
This is a great fight to show young people, particularly athletes. Sure, it's great to see the mastery of Ali, but the grit of Wepner is pure gold and truly inspiring.
58:57 for all Tyson Fans: This is what the 10 count is about. The referee has to make a decision, whether to send the fighter back into the fight or to stop the fight, in order to protect the fighter's health. it has nothing to do with 10 seconds. (Tyson vs Buster Douglas February 11, 1990). otherwise there would be a stopwatch visible for everyone.
The only problem with boxing is the unquestionable end result of concussions for the fighters. So many fighters with over 30 bouts usually have some sort of brain trauma. Literally look that sad shit up. If Ali never went into boxing his Parkinsons may not have been triggered until much later in life. 🤔
@@justinhackstadt6677 Some people and all great athletes live by that unsaid code. Everyone knows the risk but you cannot realize it. A true warrior dies when their is no more battle to conquer, hence how many athletes become substance abusers and commit suicide. The ones who would ever be considered an all time great are definitely warriors and don't enjoy regular things in life that regular people do. The beauty is being a fan the hardship is knowing no matter how great you are there will always be a day where people say he used to be and once upon a time.
there was only 20 seconds left in the fight. So stopping the fight was stupid. If Ali is so great then why did it take him all the way til the end of 15 rounds to finally knock down Wepner? Wepner knocked Ali down in the 9th!
@@stevens8180 🤡 What the fuck are you going on about Forrest, Wepner was knocked out in the last round and couldn't even walk! I bet you sit with your buddies and talk about Rocky movies like they were real fights, too. 🤣😂 Wepner was trash, a garbage fighter who spent the whole fight hanging onto an aging Ali, rabbit punching and throwing low blows. Ali beat him like a red haired stepchild! Additionally, watch the clips that show the placement of Wepner/Ali’s feet, it was obvious Ali tripped and fell back. Keep dreaming though Billy Bob, and don't ever let your Mom take that Rocky poster off your bedroom ceiling. Moron.
The ref never cautioned Wepner, so it became a dirty fight. Ali should not be blamed for returning the rabbit punches, since the ref apparently didn't know the rules anyway.
@@The713Sonic blatant attempt to dethrone the GOAT. Referee and commentators involved making it a conspiracy. So glad the GOAT knocked him out. Can't believe I haven't seen this fight til now
What fight was that announcer watching in the first round? "Wepner hasn't hit him behind the head." YES HE DID, a bunch of times before Ali retaliated.
Weiner could take a punch and use his size to dish some out.Looks like they both took a beating, Ali with a knockout, Wepner's first time off ohis feet and he gave up the fight
You see this is why I love this fight, right from go, this announcer boxed only on wall street, Wepner is a very dirty fighter, holding someone is not striking someone in the back of their skull, for those who can actually count, Ali landed 5 blows not 6 like this guy is seeing punches that don't even exist!, and 3, the ref, doesn't even caution Wepner until late, I could see it, why couldn't he, and he's in the friggin ring, but just watch an see where his dirty tactics get him, I don't think I ever saw Ali loose his temper like this because, the ref isn't really reacting to the hitting behind the head especially in the clinches, Ali is PISSED!!
This is the only fight in which Ali really lost his temper. I've never seen him go into a rage like this before, because Wepner just kept on hitting him in the back of the head. And the referee just wasn't doing anything to stop it.
The ref also wasn’t stopping Ali from pushing the man’s head down…. That said it wasn’t much of a fight. Ali was ‘lackluster’ didn’t look that good. In shape he finishes Wepner in 5 or 6 rounds. The knockdown in the ninth looked more like an off balance slip than a hard power punch. Anyway a payday for both fighters.
I trained with Ali & talked with Wepner on a beach & he sd when he fought with Ali he bad mouthed Ali every way possible & floored Ali.I asked Chuck if he won the fight. He sd no Ali knocked him out.I got the feeling Chuck was so proud he got to bad mouth Ali that he didn't care about his knock out.Chuck was proud that he got to bad mouth Ali.
According to Wepner, Elder Liston was undoubtedly the most powerful boxer he met in his career. In a recent interview, the question "(Ali) was your toughest opponent?" Wepner reiterated: "No. Sonny Liston was hitting a lot harder" (January 13, 2007)
That means nothing Ali beat him twice also George foreman hits harder but Ali beat him aswel. Ali is a far more skilled boxer than sonny Liston ever was.
@@mattsavage9960 if you learnt to read before you commented with your half a brain cell, you’d see that the original post mentions the variable of a powerful punch and not the skill of a boxer.
