Not sure if anyone has mentioned it; much respect for the ref of this fight. He was a big man, not afraid to get in the middle of these two champions. Fine job, sir.
I could watch this fight a thousand times. No one in that era could have actually used Foreman’s bullying tactics against him but Ali, just a masterpiece.
Holyfield also used the same trick to drag the fight to the 11th round, which tired Tyson, but he used headbutt kung fu and was quickly punished by Lennox.
@@bakerjohnny91Holyfield must of pissed you off for beating Tyson if you had watched the interview with Tyson he said he tried to headbutt Holyfield and he said he bit his ear because he was so good and that’s from Tyson’s mouth end of story !
Everybody thought that Big George was invincible but Ali won this match with KO on Big George. Ali's punches were good controlled and fast. Ali was smart and had always a strategy. Foreman was like an uncontrolled bulldozer. But, Ali controlled the match like a good programmed tactical weapon and finally won this match. Ali was The Greatest Boxer of all Time. Foreman was also a great boxer, no doubt, with it's typical Big George powerfull punches. Thanks to the two legends for this unforgettable excellent match.! We will never forget you champ, Muhammad Ali.!
Don’t downplay George’s power. He wasn’t just your regular slugger he was a freight train who barely put any efforts in his punches and still managed to lift you up into the air with punch
I was a teenager when that happened. Most in my school thought Foreman would win. I was an Ali fan, and was afraid George would hurt Ali. I was wrong of course, and very happy Ali won. I have much respect for Foreman, enjoyed his later career, a better boxer as an older person. George is a class act today and a good person.
Foreman was winning until he fell into Ali's trap the ropie dope and Ali knocked Foreman out! Foreman won the belt back when he was I think 54 years old what a man he is ( Foreman)
This match is the biggest and most exciting fight in the history of boxing, which was held between the biggest heavyweights of professional boxing in the world. It is impossible to see a match at this level ever again
Muhammad Ali's defense, hand speed and tactics were incredible against the bigger and more powerful George Foreman. Most of his punches found the target on George's face while George found it very difficult to land clean punches on Ali's face, hence he directed most of his punches to Ali's torso. These body punches might have finally worn off Ali had the fight progressed beyond Round-8. Ali's extensive experience proved too much for George's reliance on his physical superiority.
Foreman did similar thing to Fraizer. All I see here is an Ali who tactically neutralized Foremans agrees sion and physical prowess but beat him with superior skill. And there is another thing Ali brought to the table that he doesn't do normally, his guards were up throughout...up and frustrating for foreman.
Foreman hit harder for sure but even George said he underestimated Ali’s physical strength. He wasn’t able to shove Ali around like other opponents. Their height and weight were very similar with George being more muscular but Ali more athletic type of build. George never saw anyone with that type of hand speed and it was on full display that night.
Watched this fight many times over yet same thrill remains. Was deeply moved by the fact that Ali could have easily pulled a final devastating blow while George was already spinning down the floor but Ali stayed off rather than deliver that final shot. Ali was all for the win and not to hurt. Such a great display of what good heart has this man . Much respect for this all time great boxer.
Im a boxer and I have been doing it for 3 years now. I just wanna say this man is the greatest of all time and he lived to be a true inspiration in my life. This man is why I box today. I got to talk with his grandson who recently turned pro about a year ago in boxing Nico Ali Walsh. I thought I was in his grandfather's presence because he just looked so much like him in a way and it was just a legendary experience. This fight has inspired me so much because Ali lost to Joe Frazier and Ken Norton and every one thought he was finished. But he came back stronger than ever and beat Joe and then whooped Ken Norton who had just got knocked out by George Foreman his last fight. They all said this fight was the end for Muhammad Ali, but he came through and proved everyone wrong. Knocking George out in the 8th round with like 25 seconds to go before the bell rang. My favorite quote is "Hard times create champions. Easy times create weak champions." Now I don't know who said that quote but I heard it once and it has always stuck with me. The point is Ali had to go through all sorts of shit after he lost those two fights, but he didn't let it phase him. He came back stronger showed what a champion is. Thank you Muhammad Ali. Praise be to you and god. Rest In Peace Legend.
The end of the 5th round, thanks to George’s iron chin we got to see the baddest man showing what made him the baddest man to ever live. The lightning speed, pinpoint accuracy and brute power on full display. It’s absolutely beautiful.
Ali using the robe-a-dope tactic against Foreman was successful, but Ali was getting his brains bashed while covering and that ultimately shut his mouth while still alive via CTE. HELL YEAH !!
Only video could have captured the unbelievable Jack Johnson, and preserved those bare-knuckle contests, in 104 degree swelter, for posterity. Am convinced that Johnson, takin’ nuttin’ from Ali, Tyson, Marciano, Louis but Johnson rules.
And all the power punchers of the 90s never knocked Foreman down as an old guy. Ali, who wasn't the hardest puncher, scores the win by knocking down Foreman Unbelievable.
Thanks RU-vid. I was very young at the time and there was no television yet in my country, so everyone was suspended by the ear to their radio transistors, either individually or in clusters with the sacred instrument of broadcasting placed in the centre of a yard for all to hear. The evening felt heavier and hotter than usual. We, youngsters, were playing football, satelliting around the adults to gauge their mood. We sensed that the issue of the match will determine any future happiness or grumpiness for weeks. It seemed like an eternity...we felt ignored by the adults, without fully comprehending how 2 perfect strangers, in a foreign (albeit neighbouring country) could summon the attention of a whole nation. Then the ROOOAAAAR. Like an earthquake. " Ali has beaten Foreman ". People screaming, crying of joy, kneeling in thankful prayers, scooping us lil'ones up to their shoulders, aw how many of us became Alis!❤❤ Never forgot that moment as a tiny little girl. And now, to be able to see the images, accompagnied by those mysterious voices that reached us through a radio, my emotion is at its peak. It is heavenly. So thankful. ❤🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I’m really excited about this fight. I need George Foreman from here. Dammit little fryer I’m 64 grew up on Miami Beach so I knew Ali too young to watch fight, but I love RU-vid and that I can experience watching this fight in my own home years later, because the Muhammad Ali was great. George Foreman scaring me right now. Let me go back now.
Ali proved that boxing is not a brutal sport. He was always there to win not hurt his oponent. He hesitsted throwing additional punches after his last one that knocked out Foreman, even though there was still time. "Is that all you got, George?; and "that was about all i got", said George Foreman. All young boxers should watch this fight.
George had incredibly poor endurance. That was his Achilles heel and Ali knew it and took advantage. George fought a guy named Peralta in 1971. Peralta used the rope a dope and George almost lost because of endurance. Ali must have seen it. Ali being smart as well as fast got the job done. Ali had excellent endurance and could take it. This fight should have been Ali's last fight. He didn't need to take anymore punishment. That caused his punchy condition . It worsened his parkinson' disease. Know when to walk away. He might still be around. R.I.P A true GOAT.
In George’s defense, he was a very muscular man who threw a ton of heavy punches and just couldn’t believe that anybody could withstand his power. He clearly ran out of gas.
Any other opponent would be on the canvas so thanks to George’s iron chin we got to see about 30 seconds of the baddest man showing what made him the baddest man to ever live. The lightning speed, pinpoint accuracy and brute power on full display.
It amazes me how quickly Ali can transform from the fastest man alive, dodging 21 punches in a matter of seconds, to standing still, taking blows, and remaining up like he’s grown goddamn roots into the earth It’s akin to a brick wall; yeah he isn’t moving but your hits aren’t doing shit!
Everyone gives all the glory to Ali which he definitely deserves but Big George Foreman was one of the greats as well. Many boxing peers acknowledged George as having one of the hardest hits they ever faced and the old man won a championship at the age of 45 years old and retired at 48! Nothing but flowers for both Ali and Foreman!
So true .George Foreman was a great boxer . It's so so very sad this loss depressed him greatly. I believe it was because it was in Africa. ? ❤. Mohammed Ali played the masterful game . Unfortunately Joe arrived with German Shepherds....🤔.
The Greatest of all time , My father drove him during his movie premiere at same time star was came out , he jumped out of the car in Greenwich village movie theater and took everyone off the long lines of star wars and brought them to his movie in the middle of traffic , just so special human being, he gave my father a bunch of negatives and I believe it was of his wife family and a young Layla Ali I believe, i would love to give her her family pictures back , i just want to keep the auto graph he wrote to me , God Bless You All , Very Respectfully Navy J
Today's boxers like Joshua, Wilder looks so big but there are so rigid on their feet and styles. They only rely on punch power....but boxing is so much more than just blind punching....Ali was so nimble on his feet and his jabs were lightning fast. No matter how many times you watch this fight....it's like a boxing Bible for all. How he used his body weight on Foreman just to tire him out in those humid conditions.
I've always wondered if a pro would think that about Will Smith's performance. It sure looks good to me but I'm not qualified to judge the finer points.
the announcers talking about how dejected george looked afterwards apparently didn't recall the faces of joe and ken after george smashed them in 2 rounds. ali didn't throw a phantom punch but it did seem like a phantom count. (george was up at 9)! nothing shameful about losing to ali: the smartest, fastest and bravest of boxers. i couldn't believe this fight when i first saw it at age 9 and i can't believe it watching it for the 500th time tonight. i hope george the multimillionaire sticks around for a good long while.
The REFEREE count IS actually a full 10 count; the problem is people are only paying attention to the ANNOUNCER, Bob Sheridan, who unwittingly counts what was actually NINE as eight. Instead of 8, Sheridan says, “gets up to the knee …”. Watch from the 51:53 mark onward and follow the count of the REF, not Sheridan.
Ali a true sportsman, much wiser than his opponents knew full well how to carry out his strategy with clinical accuracy. He never looked out of control. To those who were watching he appeared to be training a junior. Fully confident, full of energy. Super human. That was a century of great boxing legends, Joe frazier, George foreman and Muhammed Ali.

Sayang bowe gak pernah ketemu sama lewis d ajang pro
Ali took them body shots from Foreman like nothing. Haven't ever seen any fighter in any weight class take consistently hard body shots like Ali did. And that is why he is the GOAT.
I was not born by then guys this was 1974 Iam born late 76 thanks for RU-vid from Africa now in USA I must visit Ali grave to pay my respect, to George I will always mention his name with respect.
we are the first day in 2023..i'm watching this match for thousands times since 1974..!! what a match.ali you still the greatest !! and you will be for many others years..
George never wanted to admit that he was angry and frustrated that Ali had too much style and charisma and was a much harder puncher than people said he was. He did take his dance away but but the fight was also mental. Ali tormented him, live on t.v, upfront, and in Africa. 😂❤😊 Remember in Africa warrior mentality is to never give up and to fight to the death. If not you stamd to lose yoir family and assets as well ve ousted. 💯 "ALI BOOMBAYE"
I remember me and my late grandfather was listening to this fight on my grandfather's old short-circuit radio from Brooklyn New York. The only sad thing I wish Ali would've retired after this fight.
And this is why Ali was the most brilliant fighter in history not to mention he took some of the most brutal punches ever to pull this off.a true ledgend.
The way the legends do to their opponents, they are more stronger mentally, physically and technically.. Therefore M.Ali is the most powerful and unforgettable boxer in the entire boxing world.
Exactly. It wasn't even remotely close, and begun with those lightning lead right hands at the very beginning of the fight, and continued with arguably the greatest display of counter punching I've ever seen. Foreman was effectively gone after the sixth...
Ali may have been very cocky, but when Foreman was wobbling and tired and was barely swinging Ali didn’t do much to him. I respect him for that, he went to the corner and did swing and hit him a bit but he could’ve knocked him out with one swing. Ali was a hell of a fighter and he didn’t play dirty. that’s a great combination
Im 61yrs. Old and when i see Ali he still reminds me of when i was10yrs. Old and we lives 2 blocks from Sky Harbor Airport Phoenix Arizona and we were at the Airport picking up my aunt when we saw Ali there well my Mom began a conversation with him well before we knew it hre was coming to our house for dinner he loved the food ate his fill and was on his way.
Im not a boxing fanatic but i can conceptualize how scary George foreman is in the ring. And for Muhammad ali to defeat him.... really shows how great ali is. I love Ali for walking out if this a hero
Ali absorbed punches for about 23 minutes leaning back on the ropes and tiring Foreman, and just 8 seconds were enough to close the match 51:45 first right 51:53 last right
