Muiderslot is just what you would imagine a 17th century castle to look like - complete with a moats, towers, bridges, murder holes and examples of knights' armor and weapons. But there is also more to explore: interactive games for kids, a beautiful outdoor garden and the nearby Muiden harbor. We visited during Castle Days when the castle also had special exhibitions and shows. We recommend taking the ferry to get there from Amsterdam East. It takes a bit longer, but you get to cruise the Ijsselmeer, stop at Pampus Island and get a majestic view of the castle as you enter the harbor.

I am thrilled there is now a direct ferry service between Amsterdam and Muiderslot. Much more convenient than transferring between several buses. It is such an atmospheric site too. Well worth a visit.

+SciFi2285 The return is direct. From AMS to Muiderslot, the boat stops at Pampus Island. It takes a little longer, but it is very pretty and worth the time.

I've just returned from Amsterdam and the ferry doesn't always run to Muiderslot.

The Muiderslot is in Muiden. Not Amsterdam. Also the exterior of the castle is 13th century, build by Floris V who also built the parlement buildings in the Hague. The interior like the paintings and furniture are 17th century. But the building itself is 13th century. The 17th century interior is shown because in the 17th century the castle a famous dutch inhabitant P.C. Hooft lived in the castle. He redecorated it and also did some restorations of the castle. Most of is still 13th century though.

It's not 17th but 13th century. Also most of the reenactments you showed in your video depicted things from the 13th century. So you were just as far off from the actual age as we are currently from the 17th century (400 years). Imagine people mistaking an iphone to be a 17th century item. Thank you anyway

Wouter...it was restored to look like it did in the 17th century.... therefore 'what you would imagine a 17th century castle would look like" But you are correct as far as the date it was originally built (and no longer stands) in 1285. And yes, many of the items on display both reflect the 13th and 17th centuries.
