My favorite lock thus far is the Medeco Biaxial 51S mortise cylinder and the reason why it is my favorite is the addition of the sidebar and the pins that must be rotated to the true gate and pushed to the shear line to get it open. I have only been in locksports for about 3 months and I think that I have pretty much gotten the normal pin tumbler locks defeated and even challenge locks so now I am stepping into the world of the sidebar locks and I hope it goes as well as the pin tumblers went as far as gaining the ability thru hours of practice and dedication to be able to pick them without much doubt that I will fail. Thanks for doing this video. Mul T locks are among my favorite locks because they go from easy types to very difficult. The 7x7 ones are great as basic locks. The interactive ones I find take a bit of time, but are doable. I haven't pulled mine apart yet, your hint about disassembly could prove valuable! I have various dimple picks, but I like the Spooxe ones. I have a kit with multiple ends and one handle, but that's not so useful if you want to change picks mid session. Great job on opening that lock!

I've got my eyes set on the MT5+, but it still seems a ways off for me, LOL. I like the Spooxe picks too. I ended up impulse buying them one night, and kind of regretted it after I did. Then they showed up and I've been really really happy with them ever since. I have the SouthOrd dimple kit too. I actually really like it because I can use the flags as blanks for making sidebar picks for ASSA and Primus style locks. Thanks again for your comment. I'll put your name in the hat :)
I'm sure those GOSO picks sanded down and shaped would be every bit as nice as the Spoxee setup. Let me know how they turn out if you don't mind... I'd love to see what you come up with.
Very nicely picked and explained very well, as usual. I will try to remember the gutting tip should I ever get around to picking one of these beasts. If I forget, you will no doubt hear the facepalm from across the pond. :)

nice job thanks. I've been working on one of these for a few weeks now. Not having any luck so far. I have no key so for all I know I'm wasting my time on a lock that doesn't even work. Though it seems like it's in great shape.

nice picking buddy I have a multi classic an im buggered if i can get it open the inner pins set higer than the outer an i find if i try and pick from the right side like you did my pick is forever getting jammed.still more fun when there hard picks the joy when you finally get it is hard to beat
Thanks for your kind words man! Getting those inner pins shoved up there is tricky for sure. My dimple picks are pretty well filed / sanded down into small flags, which I think helps. Still, it's hard to say without picking several more of these locks. Just a thought though.
Entertaining and informative, great video. My favorite lock is my master #3 because it was the first one I picked haha but I'm getting more entertainment out of my sparrows cylinder and the reload kit so that should be mentioned too.
@@tumbl3r Very good video,one question though,where did you get the replacement spring for the spring that you inadvertently mangled?So far as I know pins and springs for Mul-T-Locks are very expensive and not easy to obtain unless you buy the whole pin kit which is ridiculously expensive.
@@nelsonechevarria7009 Oh man, good question... I grabbed one that I had laying around that was close. I don't remember where it came from, but it was very similar. I'm not a locksmith, so if I didn't have something at hand, getting those parts would be pretty difficult. I guess I'd stary by posting on the forums like keypicking and reddit to see if anyone had any sto spare. If that didn't work I'd go looking for a smithy who works with MTL and ask if he'd sell me the bits I needed. Sorry I can't be of more help. Getting parts for these highly specialized locks can be really really tricky.
My favorite lock that I own would have to be my S&G 826c. The reason for it is because they hard hard to come by and was at one point used by the military and with it being 40 years old I am sure it has a history that would be interesting to tell.

Thanks BLP! I was surprised by how well re-winding them works. I used an Allen wrench and just wound the damaged part around that. Worked really well actually. You can hardly tell the spring was ever damaged.
tumbl3r mine was straight a piece of wire by the time I got it out lol. It was compressed and stuck in the chamber. Not sure why the lock is brand new. There's gotta be a way to get springs. I'll google it one of these days

Maybe it's time to give it a shot. ^^ Regarding locks: I like the EVVA MCS. Because it's been around for more than 40 years and there is no legit opening via lockpicking of this lock yet. It's a brilliant design, that even considers different melting points of the plastic used in case someone tries to attack it with fire.

Up until this one I'd only picked a 7X7. I've worked a lot with sliders and sidebar pins though, so the twisting / lifting motion was not completely new. Still, there is a lot of "joy of discovery" here for me and I'm really enjoying MTL locks. Have to agree with you on the MCS. That thing is just a beautiful design! My wife got me an MCS padlock for my birthday last year and it really is one of my absolute favorite locks. Thanks for watching man! And for commenting. Do you mean to remove the inner pins? They are captured so I don't think anything would work to remove them without removing the lock. They are also non-ferris so magnets would not work on them even if they were able to come out.
I meant when pulling the pins out with tweezers at one point it looked like you were having trouble, I'm wondering if there's a better way or if Locksmith's tend to take pride in their tactile abilities...
I've seen these being "coded", when I moved in, the building was new and the owner could use his universal key to open all the front doors to apartments. When we moved in they took our set of keys and the first time they used one of those the lock was "coded" to only be used with this set. How that works I have no idea. I've also heard of two of them breaking and leaving the owners with no way in. As a result they had to break in and change the locks.
