That is so smart, Travis. Honestly - the COST of adding new plants adds up so quickly. So quick. We have landscaping fabric under our beds and I HATE it. It makes me planting so difficult and messy. I see other people hit their landscaping with an auger and drop plants in. I can’t. I can’t really get soil amendments down into the ground either.

Nice Travis!!! Great advice; I noticed in my fire pit with the little pebbles, that the weeds are just growing through the weed barrier(put down by previous owners) like they own the spot! LOL I went to find some Preen and it was all sold out. Your project is looking amazing brother!! Keep up the great work!!! The battle continues!!!

Thanks buddy. Even the weed barrier under rocks isn't 100%. I'm right there with ya. Hope you're able to find some Preen. Keep up the great work as well, my friend. Fight on. Have a great weekend! 👊👊

It's 103 in east Texas today - no rain since June. So, no I am not diligent and won't be diligent with handpicking weeds. I wish I were, but I'm not. Weed infestation has hit a whole new level. Thanks for the video.

I don’t blame ya at all. I’m the same way. If it’s that hot and dry, there’s no point in wasting time in the lawn and risking heat exhaustion. Hope ya get some rain soon. Appreciate ya watching and commenting.

Thanks man. I used to cut the vinyl and press them myself. Then it just became something else added to my plate, which was already too full lol. If I see enough interest at some point, maybe I'll bring a limited line of shirts back, as in 1 😆😆 Appreciate ya watching.

Nice video as usual! I’ve been rebuilding my backyard for the past two years. First year, put down cardboard to kill off the grass where I wanted flower beds. Then, 120 yards of arborist woodchips moved into backyard one wheelbarrow load at a time. My gates are too narrow for any kind of equipment. 😢 I went a foot thick and let them rot down all winter now have a nice 4” bed of mulch. Weeds and grass don’t grow through that.

What do you do when it breaks down? Remove it and replace it? Seems it just would make the bed level higher and higher. Thanks for the tips!
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns Месяц назад
Just add it on top of old material. Once you get going, only a thin layer is added when needed. It breaks down fast enough to keep it from getting too high. Thanks for watching.

Fabric or plastic under rock, cardboard under woodchip. However, avoid using stones for your mulch if you can. I’ve spent the last two summers rebuilding my entire backyard. I’ve bee tearing out all the landscape fabric and lava rock installed by the previous owners. Let’s just say, I’ve been cursing the previous owners.

Great video! What if I already have weeds taking over my mulch beds? 😂 One thing I’ve noticed after a year of having them is that heavy rains tend to move my mulch around quite a lot, so I have some areas of the bed with a thin mulch layer, and others with a thick much layer. Do you just keep mulch in your garage to fill in thin spots as they develop?
@scoobydoo5447
@scoobydoo5447 Год назад
Cardboard and 4+” of woodchip is your friend. Personally, I use arborist woodchip as you get multiple sizes that hold together better than the store bought stuff.
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns Год назад
If weeds are already taking over and you have plants in the ground, the best option is hand pulling. Typically the roots are just in the mulch and easy to pull out. I buy my mulch in bulk. Really don't have a problem with washout. All my gutters run underground so I don't get much running water through my lawn. That really helps. May look at diverting water somehow if possible. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
