@@Kelz_vee Exactly, NSWRL let him play Juniors knowing he's a Maori n would eventually play for NZ. They allow it to filter the best players into the Australian team. Simple, State of Origin n international teams should be based of where your born.
@@Hoodoo04 State of Origin in the end is governed by the NRL it's their fault not QLD's, it's not their job to make sure they tick the boxes they just pick the players they are told are eligible. It's the NRL's fault not QRL's
@WarriorCrimson Thanks for clarifying 🤔 Has the ability to play under 18's and 20's for Qld, yet cant represent at a senior level. NRL should be policing it, absolutely no consistency, rather then shutting him down less than 24 hours prior to a 'professional' NRL origin game.
I feel sorry for the kid it's cruel to have that ripped away from you but it is what it is, QLD should have done a better job of vetting the players they picked this lands on them.
NRL is an embarrassment, I don't see this happening in any professional sports, especially with it timing less than 12 hours before kick off. NRL is incompetent.
"What is the point of having rules if there is always a reason to have exemptions?" Perfectly said. State of Origin has been taking far far too many talented Kiwi's and Islanders to bolster the already strong Australian teams for years now.
Exactly and it only hurts our international teams because these guys can’t play for us anymore! 13 is too old in my opinion. Should be before the age of 10.
@@t3chn1n35 your right on that one but that being said rugby is a bigger game then league it will help league grow i suppose. But your not wrong on the all blacks they take island players just for them not to make the all blacks quite sad imo. Look at laumape man was a unit and all blacks put him in the bin.
"Anglo-Saxon" game .. now it's full of Islanders. If they are eligible to play for Australia, then they should be allowed to play Origin. If they are ineligible to play for Australia, then they shouldn't be able to play Origin. It should be aimed at picking Australian players to represent Australia.

Make it simple ask the question "where were you born?" if the answer is NSW, you play for NSW, if the answer is Qld, you play for Qld. any other answer is, you don't play origin.
That would make things simple. If your good enough to play origin but can't because of eligibility then play for your country. Money talks and end of the day that's what gets these guys out of bed
@@moronicdooshbaggery756 simple way doesnt mean best way … I can tell you dont have any kiwi’s who came here as a baby, they love state of origin and their state just as much
@@clutch7548 It doesn't matter what they consider themselves to be, it is a simple, easy to interpret rule that would restore integrity to the SoO process.
A lot of the responsibility lies with the Queensland administrators in earlier years. They deliberately gamed the system to sign up young emerging talent with Qld clubs to strengthen the Maroons. Remember Greg Inglis?
I feel bad for Mulitalo but im sure hes not eligible AT ALL for Origin. If all the facts are correct the only rule that could allow him (He doesnt qualify through 'Place of Birth' or 'Residence'), would be whether his father played State of Origin.
What are you talking about? The rule is in place because origin is supposed to be made up from Australians... not from Kiwis. If somebody grows up in New Zealand until they are 14 or 15 they aren't Australian if they move there for a few years.
The logic with age 13 kind of makes sense because thats the first year you play at the adult rules(international rules). It is to stop a greg inglis 2.0 where he lived in NSW until aged 17 and played for QLD which just mocks the whole idea of state of origin.
you are all to blame... you made a farce of the eligibility criteria with the likes of Inglis, Tamou, Craig Smith, Mat Rogers, Thorn, Toni Carroll etc. now shut up
Avid NSW supporter here, yes rules are rules, but it really is something that the NRL and QRL need to fix. Let the guy play, make an exception for this young guy.
Same sort of scenario happened Sonny Bill came to Australia when he was kid played all his junior football in Sydney played for all NSW rep age groups then told no Origin !! The system is broken & you can really only blame Qld RL for the screw up they should of had this sorted for Mulitalo !! & 7 of Qld players born in NZ come on !!!
The rules on having to declare a player should pick australia needs changing. State of origin has nothing to do with the Australian side and its just a way of making the best players play for Australia. It means other international sides can lose their best players and its a joke.
As a NSW fan this is so stupid, how can you be allowed to represent your state at U18 and U20 level but not allowed to represent ur state at senior level. Mind numbingly stupid
Best option: To not kill off NZRL and players who want to represent SOO, make it so players can play for NSW/QLD + play for NZ. Any other rule changes without that in mind will hurt NZRL even more…
Gould's a bit wrong there in that statement, yes Union is bigger than League, and has more school opportunities, but League is growing, it's now the most played sport by Maori, overtaking Union a few years back. But, I didn't expect Gould to come with facts.
The whole NRL professional rugby league is a complete joke. Why now? I don't see this happening in any professional sports, NRL is complete embarrassment.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal that eight players - nearly half the Maroons side - were born outside of their beloved Queensland. Welcome once again to the United Nations of Queensland. Xavier Coates was born in Port Moresby, PNG; Christian Welch (Sydney, NSW), Joe Ofahengaue (Auckland, New Zealand), Tino Fa‘asuamaleaui (Orange, NSW), Felise Kaufusi (Auckland, New Zealand), Jaydn Su’A (Christchurch, NZ), Jai Arrow (Fairfield, NSW) and Moeaki Fotuaika (Gisborne, NZ). Patriotic NSW has just one player born outside the state - Parramatta prop Junior Paulo, who comes from Auckland.
@@turboteddy4912 Damn! Was about to say what a dirty traitor Jai is too so if u r correct all these qld's sooking about Mulitaldo is only one player and Jnr Paulo shouldn't be representing Nsw, he is only one player we have compared to eight from Qld! But I think the ineligibility rules r not from where u r born but where u played ur first 13/14 years of league
@@lukeyjonboy lol I quoted it's from Daily Telegraph so take it up with them. Besides it doesn't include Josh Papalii (NZ) or Kalyn Ponga (WA) so you can settle down..
Did nsw check Tamou’s NZ passport when they picked him? He was over the age of 13 too but no one seemed to care. You’re all dumb af, let the bloke play for the team he’s dreamed of since a child, it won’t make a difference in the game
This might be a dumb question but is playing for Queensland under 18's and the rules dictating it the same as playing for Queensland in the "State Of Origin" series ?
I still hate that they keep talking about giving non-Australian players NRL pathways but don’t try to do it in their countries. I mean NZ players shouldn’t want to play for QLD or NSW, they should be inspired by representative teams from their own country. NZ should have some kind of city vs country 3 game series. Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington vs the rest.
@@jaymanlinkin1897 I understand that, but I just think, especially since they are slowly moving SOO to the weekend, there should be other games for rep round and giving NZ players their own unique series that they can call their own. This would also be a way that the NRL could hopefully build a supporter base and also give NZ born players an avenue through which they can represent where they have come from, much like Australian layers can
problem is he’s one out of many who made queensland. not easy making the team. possibly even telling his family. then getting a call saying he’s not allowed to play
The NRL are so lazy and disgusting. They should write up a yearly summary report of all players who are eligible and update it every time a new player makes their debut.
so Luai and To'o can play for NSW despite breaking the eligibility rules of "you must be eligible AND elect to play for Australia" but a kid who's played 16's, 18's and 20's for the maroons can't? What a joke
@@johanzo88 they’ve also said publicly that they don’t want to play for australia, which breaks the eligibility rule I literally just quoted. pretty simple, not rocket science.
Here's a crazy idea Let players choose who they want to play for. I don't care if a kid played in NSW since he could crawl then at 18 decides he wants to play for Qld and vice versa. I can't believe this is still happening.
@@mickojw it was a qld reporter u broke the news and if u watched the upload ur commenting on u would have seen and heard that both camps did not even know the situation and the so called ineligibility rules have only been a big talking point since the Greg Inglis debacle on which the great Darren Lockyer said Qld would not have won that many series in a row if he represented Nsw
You bring up one case, qld have been guilty of this for years fella, and since the tamou situation the changed it so it couldn't happen again Don't forget qld somehow had ingliss play for them and others like papalii, Kafusi, thorn, and countless others, qld always try to twig it to suit themselves it's about time nsw stood up For it Nsw had for example Sbw stopped by qld for playing and he was a junior blue as was Thruston Qld are by far the biggest offenders and if you did a little research you would no this

What is the guy on the right on about? NSW rugby league don’t know anything about this? It was the NSWRL executives and management that pushed the inquiry forward into Mulitalo’s eligibility. They did that deliberately to shake up the QLD team. It was deliberate and tactical, and a farce.
Make a third Origin Team, NSW, QLD and OTHER. Other being NZ, PNG, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, England. If the other League juristictions want to have a representative round let them create one. No one is stopping NZ from coming up with a representative team. Then let this new representative team play a round during origin period. Have a NZ vs Islanders match
So Queensland can have Keary back to play for them next year?? This is terrible and absolutely tragic. Poor Ronaldo. The eligibility rules for state of origin are the down side of a wonderful centrepiece of this great game. This is the incompetence and greed of the ARL.
At first it was where your first junior club was then it was where you were born now it’s where you lived before your 14th birthday, I feel like there just changing the rules as they go along, similar crap to when Greg Inglis made the Queensland side even though he’s from Nsw, this is beyond a joke and it’s ruining the game
13th birthday. You're demanding another change. And change is what you're complaining about? Change is not the problem. Qld selector incompetence is the problem
Totally agree with with Gus, why let him play for Queensland to begin with if he could never achieve the final goal. At 13 years of age he is being cultured Australian only born New Zealander. Accountability issues like usual.

Hey, just make origin purely Australian born players from either side of the boarder and be done with it. No point having a blokes dreams be crushed so suddenly like that with technicals of eligibility. Some of this blokes are either NZ born raised or have a Samoan-Tongan heritage raised in Aussie, whats the difference?
Ronaldo Mulitalo definitely would be shattered. His contract questions, are incriminating statements & personal. Lawyers need to look at it probably. I know contracts can be confusing and you can hesitate to answer questions in fear he will get it wrong or hopefully right. Cos he definitely was determined to get his dream to come true. He is very intelligent smart but was very curious in answering those questions on the contract.
The Australia I grew up in is one of a people on the move. I was originally born in Tasmania, so does that make me ineligible to cheer for either side? The rules need to change. Even half our prime ministers aren't born in Australia.
If he is not eligible to play for QLD because of he has not lived in Australia when he was 13yrs, Australian Rugby League should limited the eligibility by only birth and not age. That is disappointing for QLD and for the young QLDER and his family. ARL SHOULD NOW TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPECUSSIONS.
as a blues supporter, absolultely disgraceful decision to stop him playing....ALSO the last 18 months so many UN AUSTRALIAN decisions about covid as well.... Qld, Vic, NS, Fed Govts...
Its easy, he's a kiwi. Just my 2 cents worth, I believe if someone is eligible for either NSW or QLD, it should be through the fact that their family and roots down are originally from there and the only exception to that is if u were born in either state if your heritage is from another country especially in relation to islanders or kiwis. Then and only then it is a clear understanding who can represent and who cannot.
When the flaming HELL are they going to make PHIL GOULD THE CEO OF THE NRL THE MAN IN CHARGE LET HIM MAKE ALL THE CHANGES THAT NEED TO HAPPEN BLOODY SICK OF IT
It looks like the Broncos pandemic has affected the Queensland Maroons. They need a need a better coach and new young bloods for the Maroons. What happened to this young man has shattered his whole career hope he keeps playing for the NRL.
Not his fault that Qld has cheated in the U18 - U20 grades, but ineligible is ineligible. The NRL has to look at if they won with him in those grades and reverse the results and they need to do actual checking of all eligibilty (NSW and Qld) going forward. It's a shame he has been caught up in it, but he will always have the fact that he was selected. Also that he has sidestepped being roped into being part of a genuinely crap team.
I defanitly feel that origin and international should be separated and able to play both like someone who's from nz but able to play origin should be aloud to play for new zealand Tonga Samoa etc
Back then its where you played your 1st senior game so thats where you play footy from 16 years and up. He was eligible for NSW. the rules are different now.
He's already got the answers and has concluded he stuffed up. Maybe so, but the real stuff up is Qld asserting he was a queenslander according to the rules.
