62 next week, raining now in Manchester England and this song popped into my head for the first time in 50? years. Used to sing it in school in the 60’s, tried RU-vid and there it was
Not anymore, there's now another version of the song. Although I do prefer the Mulligrubs version. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a9nEbsEoGwo.html
We sang this song at school in the 80s. The backstory is that the (unnamed) person doing the complaining was a foreign exchange student from Jamaica, visiting a boy in the UK (Antonio) for a week. Coming from a country where continuous rain was a relatively rare event, he was astonished and dismayed that it rained all the time, and was baffled that people would just to go about their normal daily activities despite the rain. I often get it stuck in my head when it rains, so searched for it, and discovered that it's called The Rain Song, and was written by John Perry and Douglas Coombes. It was part of a course by the BBC called "Singing Together".
This video was posted on YT 11 years ago 2012, but what’s hard to believe is that not many Mulligrubs videos have been posted since then! I’d like to see more if possible!
When I was in the juniors, I'm 54 now I would have been about 8 or 9 we used to sing this song and do a little dance interpretation. I was telling a friend about it and singing the first line, she thought I was making it up, I tried you tube just by chance, I didn't think for one minute it would be on there. Ha ha, I wasn't going made it really did exist.. Thank you you tube.
The radio show we used to listen to in music class at school allowed schools to vote on their favourite song on the programme and then did a top 10 style show at the end of the season. We all wanted Old John Braddulum to win and were so disappointed when it made number two and this song was number one!
There’s another Mulligrubs video I’d like to see. I wanna see the one where Angela Smith sings the song Like A Leaf Or Feather and another one where Gina Zoia sings The 7 Steps! If anyone could upload either of those videos that’d be great.
@@bmortloff the dude who did the voice of Black Board from Mr Squiggle teached at my High School. I never had him but apparently he did say "hurry up" during lessons! If you've ever seen "Bad Boy Bubby" the lady who played Angel was a substitute Teacher one day in Primary School. I knew it was her! After class I asked her if she'd seen the movie and she went bright red and couldn't look me in the eye. I knew it was her! Hey Teach, you have some mighty whoppers!
I think for the first verse about Monday he should say “It’s Raining Today!” Not “It’s Raining Again!” Because that’s the first verse of the song and there was no mention of it raining in the song before that.
Some of you are wondering who Antonio is in the song, I'm not really sure but I think it's the friend of the boy who keeps saying that he can't do things on each day of the week just because "lt's raining again!" There's something else I've been wondering, often the host of this show who has a face but no body mentions someone call Bernard. Does anyone know who Bernard is?
@@marknewton3765 I don't think so. If that was Antonio who kept saying that he can't do things just because "It's Raining Again" then the guy would've said "On Monday Morning Antonio got up!" Judging by the lyrics it sounds more like that the person telling the story is talking to Antonio and is not actually Antonio.
This show had 2 presenters called Nick. This was one Nick and the other Nick appears in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X3kZcuAeaNk.html.
