Your meant to put the older operating systems first then the newer ones. 25:04 Windows XP does support dual booting as I've seen somebody run Windows 2000 and XP together. Only 9x systems require MS-DOS by the way.

So if you are confused about the Partition "System Reserved" When you did a Clean Install of Windows, The partition size varies on different Operating Systems. Windows 7 will have 100MB, Windows 8/8.1 will have 350MB, and Windows 10 will have a 500MB. It was used for BitLocker Drive Encryption, Boot Configuration, and Boot Manager Code.

Fun fact: I actually dualbooted Windows 7 w Windows 7. The way I did that is just chose my new partition during installation. I also wanted to dualboot w Windows xp, but it doesn't go through the setup process at all on Windows 7 but now I know how to do it

If you go in this order (XP, Vista, 7, 8.1 and 10) you won't have a problem with the multiboot. XP must be installed first, and must be as the prime boot device. In this way, Vista pairs with XP, solidifying multiboot. If you were to remove the assigned letter to the WindowsXP partition in Windows Vista, Vista won't let you do it because it would prompt you a message that such partition is the main boot device, but it would let you to remove the others.

System reserved is for when installing Windows your C drive can be erased and everything while the system reserved holds the important files needed to boot into windows and install it.

more info: every operating system you install, it will make and overwrite the "System Reserved" partition you were wondering about, and that partition has the boot manager stored inside it, which is what contains the boot menu, so it is different every time it overwrites the system reserved partition

wow the windows 7 boot menu so much nostalgia cuz 10 years ago i once had a pc with windows 7 and windows xp installed on them and in 2016 i had a pc with windows 10 and windows 8.1 and i was kinda surprised about the boot menu back then and even 5 years later now i forgot it and this video reminded me of it great days.

You need sound drivers and several other drivers with XP. it didn't come with drivers. Later O.S.'s automatically installed the needed drivers.

If I would do a Multiboot of those Windows Versions, I would always start installing the oldest Version.

6:33 I surprisingly agree. Well, I used 8.1 since the day it was released and all the way up until like 2018(?) And I also found some appreciation for Vista in late 2021, I put backgrounds from Vista everywhere This is why I kinda feel cozy when I use them

I did not know about the Guest Additions. My work around was to enable Remote Desktop and that gave me full screen when I remote in so I now know 2 ways. 😉

Fun fact for @TrigrZolt, the Visita/7 boot menu was the old boot manager display which was not the main one since windows 8x came out. You can still turn on the old boot manager, even if Visita/7 isn't installed

You should have installed the earliest one first, then higher, then higher, and so on. I multibooted windows 2000, xp, longhorn (yes, I have longhorn's iso), Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. I am so happy I got this idea and made an octaboot machine. Thanx bro 😊😀😉❤️

I'm gonna try to attempt this with XP first on real hardware. 1. You're meant to install XP first because XP was the last version to have NTLDR and Vista and up uses Boot Manager. 2. The boot menu in XP, Vista and 7, and 8.1 and 10 are all different. It depends if you also have fast startup because that screws up the bootmenu sometimes.

Bro, be a man and use quinta boot on real hardware. I have 5 different hard drives each with a different os. I have no idea why, but I do.

If I were doing this I'd start with XP and work my way up to 10, because the bootloaders could recognized the older OSes and add them to the boot list.

I have two empty partitions on my h.d. in which I would like to install Windows Vista & XP, but I can't find a good iso.

Boot into the windows 7/vista installation disc and use repair your computer/windows whatever you want to boot into/startup repair and then restart your pc

I got my little brother’s old laptop and i managed to multi boot 12 Windows operating systems (and a few linux distros too). Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, WS2008, WS2008R2, WS2012, WS2012R2, WS2016, WS2019 and POSReady 7. And remember, its real hardware ;)

Hey whenever you install a new os it puts it as your default os and if you just go to msconfig and set windows 10 as your deafult os it could have worked

I haven't actually watched this yet, but I want to quad-boot 7, Vista, XP and 2000 on a Socket 478 system I have which has 2 early SATA channels as well as the usual PATA/"IDE"). The plan is to have 7 on a 120GB SSD (SATA obviously) and Vista on a 160GB SATA HDD. Then XP, 2000 and data on a triple-partitioned 500GB PATA HDD, and PATA optical drives etc. I'll watch this, but can anyone help me as it is a bit different...?

After installing XP to get in boot loader you must to press F8 key only one time, but before Windows XP logo appears

This inspired me to do this on actual hardware. I actually did it! But not windows XP it just shows the same error over and over. I tried to install the Windows embedded POSReady 2009 but yea that didn’t work.I eventually just installed XP on windows 10 virtual machine

The proper solution to make more than 3 partitions in windows is by using a gpt partition scheme

for getting to ME and prior you can create a floppy drive in Virtualbox, download MS DOS .iso and bam

You can do it down to Windows NT 4.0, bcuz NT 3.51 has BSODs on multiboot

but i just triple-booted a DVD with my live cd (LiveCDWin10) that took 2.5GB of space on my DVD-R

IMA octaboot windows on hyper v were you can't go on windows versions with ms dos included if you want to do inputs and the oldest working os is windows 2000

bsod on windows xp 64 edition install is because you need to set any version of windows x64 in settings of virtual machine

Tip for Windows XP drivers, is that there are drivers for everything, but I’m pretty sure windows xp only supports the outdated drivers, thus why it might not work

I'm pretty sure at the beginning of the video you should have formatted the VM drive to (GTP) instead of (MBR)

Do you know if it is possible to have both MS-DOS and Windows Vista on the same dual-boot or multi-boot? I already know that you can have both MS-DOS and Windows XP on the same dual-/multi-boot, and that you can have both Windows XP and Windows Vista on the same dual-/multi-boot, but I have doubts whether MS-DOS and Windows Vista on the same device is possible or not. I see that the font on the text of the type of boot, as in this video, is very different compared to the one with the so-called DOS font, where I have seen that you can have MS-DOS as one of the alternatives, in addition to Windows such as WXP.

Yh i've read about these issues when trying to dual boot Win10 and XP, for some reason Win10's boot menu overwrites all of them. And now that you installed 10 first and Xp last you get this issue where the boot menu just bricks and no longer works. That's why on almost every article on trying to boot Windows 10 and XP it says you would need to install XP first AND ONLY THEN Win10. i'm actually suprised this would brick the boot menu i expected a diffrent thing like windows 10 or xp just bugging the frick out but not the damn boot menu just bricking. And like you said it would take way to long for you to install ME, 98, 95 etc. Because Windows XP was the first time they made an operating system running on they're NT software for public consumer use. before xp it all ran on MS-DOS As Kernel.

+TrigrZolt I figured out why your XP installation prevented you from booting Windows Vista+. Windows XP was the last version to use the NTLDR boot loader, and Vista+ use the BOOTMGR boot loader which uses the BCD, and not the Boot.INI.
