Over the past 4 years, I have grafted 6 to 10 different varieties onto this seedling and now the tree is loaded with Blossoms! #GraftingAvocados, #GrowAvocados
Thats a magnificent flowering display now Jeff. Do you find the Mexicola Grande is maybe capable of self pollination or do you think you need other varieties in flower ? It would be hard here to get more than one type to flower at the same time 😂
Hi Brett, It’s my experience that almost all avocado trees are self fertile. You may get a few more fruit with another tree in the area . But not necessarily needed
I have 3 trees I put in last year: two 6 footers, a pinkerton and a bacon and a little bitty 1 gallon nabal. All of them are blooming like mad. Even the nabal! I'm in 9b in the Bay Area.
Thats great the giant has blossoms, you could be the first to get fruit set inland, my gem flowers are way behind your tree by about 3 to 4 weeks, but thats good as ideal flower temps are 68 to 78 de grees.
Im not sure why but avocado trees all over cali seem to be flowering amounts way more than normal i dont know if it good rains over last 2 years or the somewhat mild cali winter this year, even my 2 foot tall jan boyce is throwing a few flowers, my dukes are flowering first time spring 2024.
I love your videos, your channel is so inspirational! I'm attempting to grow a Mexicola Grande tree in Sacramento right now and will try to graft it when it gets bigger.
Hey Jeff How do we get Big Black scions from you? I don't know anyone who has the Negro Grande - Big Black and I am part of Greg's Bay Area Avocado FB Group. Any tips how I can obtain one. I grow all the East Bay local varieties. Long time viewer of all your content. Thanks so much.
Thank you for the video. I have a small potted avocado tree with lots of flower buds. What kind of fertilizer do you recommend so they don't fall off? Every year my small pea sized avocados fall off. Thank you for your input.
I was able to keep my pubescens variety of hot peppers (plus others) alive over the winter in the raised bed I covered with a 20'x30' clear tarp (weighed 25 pounds). A few nights I had to run an electric oil heater and that was borderline warm enough. I may have to look into an alternative for next year as it could get colder than this year. Currently drizzling here in eastern Sac County.
Hi Jeff, Wondering if you have any nurseries or places I can get a king palm for my yard (I’m in Sacramento area and willing to drive). Your beloved Dypsis decipiens you had has filled me with much hope:)
@@TropicalGardenGuy I am looking for the Archontophoenix maxima specifically. Looked everywhere and cannot seem to locate anyone. Any help or leads is greatly appreciated!
I’ll be doing an updated graft video soon. Here is an old video I did . Hope it helps! GRAFTING AVOCADO TREES | NEWBIES STEP BY STEP VIDEO GUIDE | MID SUMMER GRAFTING DEMO | CLOSE UP ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hIxryyWc8Tk.html
If you do replace the queen, you should look into super hass/oh la la. It's supposed to be as cold hardy as the mexicola grande and has fruit as big as the lamb hass.
