Thanks! Fun fact: I have been stopped by strangers on the street a handful of times in my life, asking me if I am on or have ever considered being on radio. They all said I have a nice and calm broadcasters voice and loved eavesdropping onto my conversation lol. Very similar things that you’ve said. Means a lot. :)
How is your Q holding up? I just got mine same region free and DVD region free as yours and I use it daily, do you think this is a bad idea? How often do you use yours? When do you normally start seeing problems if any?
Q is holding up great! Trying to get a Viper GC chip installed inside of it. I think it’s great that you use it all the time. If you’re concerned about it’s longevity, give it proper maintenance, like cleaning the lens and greasing up the rails and gears. Since you say you use it everyday, make sure that the tray has no cracks and double check if the disc tray opens and closes without issues. A slow or stuck disc tray is usually a sign of a worn out drive belt. It’s an easy swap.
There is not enough information on the internet to suggest that the console was upgraded after it was built. I was told that there were 2 types of Panasonic Q's made when they were released: The Japanese only version, and a Region Free version. I believe the region free version cost about $100 extra than the Japanese only version. Once again, this was from what I was told way back in the early 2000's. I wish I knew the real truth too.
Just to put the region mod rumour to rest, lik-sang performed the modification allowing you to select the region by holding down the start button. This was an option that you could choose from their website back when the q was first available. I purchased mine new from them at the initial release and have owned and used it from day one and still do today in 2020.It still performs fine and can only assume that the issues some people have such as disc tray runners, noisy fans etc is down to misuse, rough handling or badly ventilated environments, possibly the best console of its day and a good investment now if you can find a well cared for one.
@@markeggleton9488 for the gamecube part you can do a region switch mow and for the dvd part is harder but you can mod chip it or do this firmware update thing www.reddit.com/r/Gamecube/comments/k0hrpa/i_bought_a_panasonic_q_now_i_want_to_region_mod_it/
There are two region mods for the Q. The “Lik-Sang” mod, which is just holding the power button down to switch to the US BIOS. The other is the region switch mod, which at the flick of a switch, you can change the region to and from JP to US.
You just said it lol. Panasonic and Nintendo saw that it had poor sales in Japan and did not feel the need to release a “failed” product outside of Japan. It would cost too much money to get almost nothing in return. The DVD player was a nice addition, but these were selling at about $600 when they were initially released. I’m sure people were thinking the following: Why buy a $600 console when you can just get a GameCube and a DVD player for half the price?
j. !!! Unfortunately it depends on the model of pick up. Not many people know how this happened, but only certain models can play US and JP games. Just pop in an NA game and hold the power button upon booting and hope for the best.

My Q has been sitting idle since I bought it in 2011... I feel so stupid lol
You just need a Freeload disc! With that disc you can also play EU market games! The only shame is, no eject button on the remote control! Tell me i am blind!!! btw: i use a S-Video cable for the image and of course also the red/white audio cables. Dreamcast is much more noisier 😂😂😂 No offense, i love DC!
Aeon Flux came right after The Maxx great show..."I'm the mighty tiki God" was the skit in between the two shows ... Man I loved that time in my life. Man, Mtv fell off.
