This is PART I of II: In this video I test the effectiveness of MultiCam camouflage in a wooded vegetative environment. This video includes scenes that show the patterns use when both concealed with and without the use of vegetation in the environment, as well as what the pattern looks like moving and stationary. Hopefully by watching these videos you can get a grasp of the patterns potential and limitations in this type of environment. Thanks for watching!

Hhmm... seems like muticam doesn't work well in the lush greens but blends in really well with trees, mud, and darker vegetation.... Interesting. Thanks for the videos, I found these camo videos are really eye opening on what works best where. This is the only channel I know that does this!

+Cletus223 agree with you. I'd like to also mention that MC Tropic works well in shadows. But along with that I heard that human eye better distinguishes dark-colored objects than light-colored over distances like 300+ meters. So in this respect MC should work better over distance. Still MC Tropic will fade a bit during usage so it can provide some advantages.
@HarbardWild
@HarbardWild 7 лет назад
Problem with MC Tropic is that it is TOO dark. In shadows it gets almost black. Multicam is fashion for dorks, not camo.

Very nicely demonstrated. No needless narration or stupid grunge music. Illustrates the basic concepts of all camo - Movement, unnatural shadows and highlights (human face, rounded boonie, leg with boot) all tend to destroy any camouflage effect. Also demonstrates, as most suggest, that multicam quickly becomes a black blob at just a short distance. Please do more like this.

I was very happy getting issued Multicam when I deployed in 2011. Granted the alternative was UCP so anything is a step up from that. It worked great around Ft. Bliss and in the Wardak Province.

Gentleman I know this is a serious video and Brent already knows that this is heroic work to show the people these camo patterns so we could determine what we might need in our areas. But I must say at 4 minutes and 19 seconds that walk that Brent does across the path really just tickles me some way and he's serious as a mug to that's what I love about it. Stayfree

Multicam is too light in this environment, but it blends perfectly with dirt though. If I have to go into combat in this environment with Multicam I would avoid using leaves as a cover. The upcoming Multicam Tropic will definitely works better as it is a specific camouflage.

For those of you saying it doesn't work in the forest, you could be wearing a bright yellow shirt and jeans and still disappear in this environment as long as you know a thing or two about camouflage. Camouflage is only meant to break up your outline and won't make you invisible. An accurate rifle doesn't make you a better marksman if you don't even know the fundamentals of marksmanship

Again, a very helpful and interesting video. Thank you for all your efforts in making it It takes a lot of time and work. Had fun picking you out ....i paused the video each time to see if i could spot you. The fact I knew you were there on purpose....made it simpler...however...stillness is an effective part of camoflage. Even though you were wearing multicam...so long as you were still...someone would easily pass by. Thanks for the video. I am a personal fan of the green and brown tiger stripe. There is the vietnamese version also but it has too much yellow/tan for my liking. I've had my tigers for 19 years now. I don't wear them daily so they have managed to hold their colour without too much fading. Camouflage has been a passion of mine since gradeschool. Every project I ever did was on camouflage in nature or stealth. I may just have to post a video one day. subscribed.

Wow, best camouflage pattern I've seen so far. While most of the camouflage patterns are way too dark, this one perfectly blends with the environment, as you can see at 05:31. I served in the German army a few years ago and due to the darkness of the camouflage pattern (often referred to as "Flecktarn"), German soldiers observed from the distance appear as dark spot in almost every environment. Bottom Line for me? MultiCam rocks!
@brandiwynter
@brandiwynter 8 лет назад
I've used different military camo patterns as well as the common civilian ones and studied hunting partners doing the same. I've come to the conclusion that if I need to hide from human eyes here in the US I'll choose the Mossy Oak or RealTree pattern that fits my area. The military stuff works fairly well but when compared to the popular patterns designed for hunters it doesn't come close. Camo really doesn't make a whole lot of difference when hunting most species so ironically using surplus military camo is just fine but if I was trying to hide from folks trying to shoot me I'd be heavily invested in RealTree or Mossy Oak or similar. We used to play "find the hunter" in the woods with all the different patterns folks would show up in and military patterns were, by far, the easiest to pick up on. A well matched "hunting" pattern camo on the other hand could drive you nuts trying to pick the person out. It's not tacticool but if my life were on the line I'd be wearing my hunting camo's and not Tiger Stripe, Multi Cam or any of the others. Fortunately I'm not the target when out hunting so any bargain surplus military camo is fine. Now that's irony. Obviously the same thing wouldn't work for military use because it's too specialized but for home turf use it's a no brainer. Great videos, very informative to see and not just hear someones opinion.

Multicam and other types of camos are often multi purpose or favoring a specific terrain type(desert, jungle, urban, etc) Multicam is pretty awesome in rocky desert terrain like Afghanistan or where Im at in western Nevada. There's some specific hunting camos for this region of the US that are a little better, but multicam isnt a bad type to fall back on.

Great video, did you hear that Frye Precision has recently come out with four new multicam patterns? A tropical pattern for jungles, arid pattern for deserts, an arctic pattern called alpine, and a black pattern for supposed urban environments. When they are released on the market I think you should definitely get the tropical pattern. It has a lot more green in it so it would probably be way more effective in this vegetative environment where you live.

The multicam does not seems to work in cold/temperate regions at all but rather in hot regions which was probably why it was adopted for the OEF/OIF. Have you tried the tropical multicam? looks so cool and effective. As of now my favorite is the MARPAT design as the most universal camo than the ucp.

I enjoyed the video tremendously. Not being military, I cheated a bit and slapped pause on every scene, giving myself 5 seconds to spot. 4:01 and 4:23 were effective, together with where you moved to at 5:04. 5:32 struck me as the best blending location. Got the rest by my method, mainly through shape, though for it's multipurpose design it was excellent; some additional work on the outlines with available foliage would easily counter shape recognition and address tone issues. Can definitely see it's appeal in the depicted environment.

Cool video. I love MC and have pants, rain shell and hat that I use to hunt. I think some of the realtree and mossy oaks do a better job in the right season while staying still but think nothing can beat the versatility of MC in so many seasons and environments, especially while moving. Id just like to find heavily think bib overalls for very cold conditions.

Hey Brent, when you get the chance to do more hunting patterns you should get some cabela's colorphase camo. It's the very first camouflage that uses temperature-activated dyes. In the spring/summer it turns green and in the fall/winter it turns brown, it's available in two patterns woodland and western and it's not too expensive a whole set costs less than 100 dollars so it's definitely something to consider.

How reflective they clothing is makes a big difference. I’ve got some multi cam clothes that are made of a worn cotton and they are the same as wearing blue jeans. And yet the polyester multi cam which has more of a “wet” look to it blends in perfectly. The stuff you’re wearing in this video reminds me of my blue jeans.. just worn, reflective and almost white.

Hey - nice videos. I've noticed most of these camouflage tests focus only on "breakup" camo and not "mimicry" camo. Right now I have Realtree APHD camo (as well as APS for winter) and I'm very pleased with how effective they are in wooded areas. Realtree's new camo patterns take AP to the next level, Realtree XTRA and XTRA Green. You should test some of these newer military camos against the top-market hunting camos and see which really perform better. Again, great vids!

Tan is basically a not a natural color here in any northern states once you leave the south west & maybe Florida areas. The video did a good job of showing that. The "ATAC " camo pattern in light & dark green would work best for any lush green environment, and if you need to get any brown on it just get em dirty! Expect to see them down the road, for at the current pace by which we keep switching our cammo pattern (every 8 or 9 years now) I would not be suprised if ATAC style is next for at least here in CONUS & European Theatre.

+MountainRecluse Lots of brown in PA, plus grey(mountain rocks) dark greens(spashed all year), rusty brown/orange(always on the forest floor at least). Real Tree Xtra works well in the fall/winter/early spring. Wish Mossy Oak would make there Overwatch available, good colors, for Eastern PA at least.

+Marcelo Botelho I'd disagree, for most of the clips he was easily/mid difficulty to spot. I spotted him almost every time.

Sorry friend but I'm my opinion! I saw several camouflage and also saw them all the time, it is difficult to choose the best among the camouflage. I choose to MULTICAM among the best camouflage. Hug

Marcelo Botelho I personally like the M81 "Classic" Woodland camo. but i think Multicam is a little easy to spot in the wilderness.

Hello my friend, but the Woodland camo is a good camouflage but both the multicam as the Woodland are not good for the desert, there is specific camouflage for the desert. Still in Afghanistan using all types of camouflage whether or not to desert. I continue with the Multicam ok A hug my buddy.

Hi Great video! Im thinking of getting a US woodland bdu full uniform (jacket and trousers) and I'm also thinking of getting 2 other full uniforms (jacket and trousers of same camo) should I get multi cam, tiger stripe or fleck tarn? My area is dense woodland. Thanks

+Ethan Green Check out my videos brother, I've filmed a lot of patterns. On my channel you will see a playlist called "Camouflage Effectiveness videos". There I have listed all the patterns I've done. I don't want to give you an opinion on the matter because I have no idea what your area looks like. Check out my videos and maybe your see some that suit your needs.

+Brent0331 Hi Again I've just watched all the relevant videos that you've put up, all great videos. In my opinion the US woodland is my favourite and I think it's the most useful for different environments. Whether it be really vibrant and vegetated areas or or more dark and brown ones. So I think I'll definitely get that. I'm stuck between multicam, tiger stripe, digital woodland. I might just get another US woodland ? In your opinion, which I think is an incredibly valid one even if you don't know my area as you seem to know a lot about camouflage. Which camos out of all the ones you've tested which ones are best for woodland in general, IOW which ones are very effective in most woodland areas? I'd just like to hear which woodland camos you think are the best. Thanks again
@Brent0331

I think for the price, M81 Woodland is hard to beat. You can pick up military grade woodland utilities at a fraction of the cost of the other patterns. For the level of effectiveness that the older woodland pattern can offer you, coupled with the price its hard to beat.

It's very good. I don't understand the white blotches, however. Do they cause some kind of optical illusion like blending colors of the surrounding environment in or are they some kind of counter measure to night seeing devices?
@G1NZOU
@G1NZOU 8 лет назад
+Mark Stuber It's apparently supposed to blend with light coloured pebbles like flint and patches of sand.

Harry Akira Eaton That seems very environment specific to me with little benifit, but I am just going on gut, not hard experiments. And of course most fire fights take place at larger distances.

i almost expect to find waldo before i find you in some of these. where did you get the MultiCam? i cant decide between it and MARPAT for my airsoft loadout. my Grandfather was a Marine in WW2 so i kind of want to wear the MARPAT. but im not sure it works as well as MultiCam, and all the "woodland digital" knock offs seem to be off in color or pattern.
@trahornio78
@trahornio78 10 лет назад
Seriously? You can pick it up anywhere...and never NEVER buy camo for nostalgia and the tacti-cool effect. Buy it for its effective properties. There are different levels of multicam so research it. your true marpat... will have USMC in very small print all over the camo blended in.

Is that an M16A4 with a Trijicon ACOG scope? I want some camo gear for airfost, but a lot of it seems to be a little..... ineffective.Most of this camo, I can find you easily in.
@TheTyrial86
@TheTyrial86 9 лет назад
It is a combination of camo and concealment. If you are in the woodlands of americas or europe go with the old us woodland pattern, tiger stripes, or marpat woodland. Also when using stay in the shadows and not silloute yourself.

Paul Robins It’s not a ghillie suit, I make these videos using different patterns so that people can see what the patterns looks like in a woodland environment. Sometimes I’m out in the open, other times I use more vegetation to help break up the outline since the human figure is so easily recognizable. The key point here is its not a where’s Waldo, but a chance for people to see what the pattern in question looks like out in the elements. Most people don’t have a forest readably available for them to see for themselves.

***** Yes, I do think I was judging a tad to harshly as well. I mean, the great thing was you took the devotion to do a review, and didn't really try to make things out "better" than they are. I give a +1 also, based off you did the review in multi-seasons. No matter what camo option I wear here in the states, if I want to totally blend in, I wear my bushrags. I've found some that work in my environment fairly well, but nothing seems 100% issued or you can buy on the market here.
