Good Sam is my home base! It was so interesting to hear your perspective as a traveler. I am not a nurse, but I am looking into traveling, thanks for all the content you share! "The people are GREAT, there were just some challenges" sums up good sam perfectly! The people of good sam are the reason I stick around ❤
I always look forward to your hospital reviews. I doubt at this point in my life that I will ever do travel nursing but I love learning about it. ( When I worked in a hospital I HATED getting pulled....so every time you talk about having to float I cringe!!!)
I grew up in Sumner and lived in Puyallup. I know that hospital well. The hospital has been added to and remodeled a lot since i was a kid, and it is a TERRIBLE maze to get around in. It is very easy to get lost in when visiting patients.
(Hi...it's Karen, Tim's wife here lol) again! This was a great informational video! This is something my husband wants to avoid for sure as he is also a Cardiac CCU nurse! We just got our first travel assignment contract signed!!! You guys have had a lot to do with convincing me that it can be done! I am such a creature of habit and tradition. However, life and the world is changing. You don't have to live in a house and work at an office. The internet and social media especially has made anything possible! And watching your videos and others out there has given me the courage to step out of my comfort zone and "Just Do It" Go for our dreams! I have butterflies in my stomach at this very moment just talking about it. I haven't had butterflies in a very, very long time! I am 54 and Tim is 52. We are not getting any younger. 3 of our children are grown and we have a 6 year old. We are headed So Cal first so we can get in some visits to Disneyland and Legoland before leaving California. Plus I wanted to be in warm weather and close to our kids for the holidays. We are just now starting to declutter and get ready for our first yard sale. I believe we leave in 2-3 weeks!! So work is cut out for us, for sure! We will be setting up social media and youtube channel as well. We've had family and friends that are still in their comfort zone and don't understand why we would do something like this. My thought is, why would you continue down the same mundane path, day after day, unhappy, overworked, underpaid and wait till you retire after working your whole life and then maybe maybe if you are lucky, live a few more years, but now too old to enjoy traveling and your retirement? Life is short! My new mantra is Carpe Diem! :). Thanks again you guys for all the great information and content you've provided on your channel! Enjoy your new location! Maybe one of these days we will end up at the same assignment! One quick question....We like the sunshine and warmer weather for the most part. Where are some good locations to travel during mid to late January-April? Any state. Thanks!! Have an amazing day!! Karen
Hi Karen! Thanks so much for your kind words. We are so excited to hear about your plans to go for it! SoCal is amazing - what a great place to start out. We wish you the best with all the packing up and planning. Keep us posted on your journey. We would love to follow you on socia media. ❤
Sent Jeff from Hawks Take Flight your way. He's an ER nurse testing full-time travel with his family. They seem to love it so far and have thought about travel nursing but he's been traveling back to his home hospital when he does his rotations. Figured with your experience and background you would be a great contact for him to learn more about it.
I was a medical explorer there 30 years ago, when it was a small hospital. You want a beautiful hospital? Alaska Native Medical Center, in Anchorage, Alaska!
Hi, I know this is an old video. But I am trying to apply for my first travel contract. I applied to good samaritan as well, for an ICU position, but they called me and said I would be floating, and I would be rarely at the ICU, and i would have ratio of 1:6 in the med surg, or ER hold of 1:5. Is it something common for travel? My whole background is ICU, so I never had more than 2 pt in my career. I am overwhelmed that all contracts will keep me at med surg with a lot pts. I came from union hospital and even our med surg nurse had a better ratio than 1:6. Any tips for new travel?
Hi John, I came across this video (I know it’s been a while since you posted this one), but as always I have questions..😂 I know floating is no fun (hell, I hated it even as a staff nurse), however what was it exactly that you didn’t like about PCU and Obs? granted, I know you’re primarily ICU, but how different was the assignment? For example in my experience, ICU has always been a tough department. Is it that the patients are as sick as the ICU and you get assigned 3-4 instead of the usual 2 in the ICU? Just trying to do the homework. I will FINALLY start doing travel in about 3 weeks (doing local in Georgia), and was looking at PCU instead of the ICU. But after seeing this video, it made me wonder what the difference would entail? As always THANK YOU for taking the time to answer my ever ending questions….hi Kristen for me🙌🏼.
For me, it's just the increased patient load. I do not task well with four or more patients; meds are late, I do too long of an assessment, chart more than is needed, and have trouble getting away from the talkative ones. This is mostly because I grew up in the ICU though. I'd you've had previous experience in a PCU then it could be a great fit, just not my cup of tea.
Great info. Thank you. We're going full time late next year. I'm an LPN and considering travel nursing. Not sure it's the best fit for me. I find your travel nursing videos very informative.
@@NoOrdinaryPath I think I'm a little scared. I've been in my current job for 18 years. I keep telling myself that if I don't like it I don't have to accept a second contract. LOL
That's right, if you don't like it you just remind yourself it's only temporary!! If you're interested in talking to a recruiter about it let me know and I can put you in touch with mine who'd be happy to answer any of your questions.
fortunately at this point I have never had to do that. however, I have confidence in my agency that if I felt like it was an unsafe situation or I was treated completely unfairly that they would have my back.
