it would be a lot better if you explain the entire parts and numbers on the multimeter, but don't get me wrong your video is very helpful !

It may also be worth mentioning that you shouldn't measure higher current by touching the actual wires and probes with your bare hands. This is why he had the wires inserted into the breadboard to have the current measured.

Was the part you edited in "2 volts! (Across resister)" supppse to mean that was the actual input voltage instead of the 5 volt USB power supply you talked about earlier??? That would explain how you got 0.02A instead of 0.05A

I'm sure you've figured this out by now, but it's because the Forward Voltage of the LED is 3V, so the voltage across the resistor is 2V. If the resistor wasn't in there, then yes, the current would be 0.05A, but also the LED would probably burn out because it's likely rated for 0.02A.

the voltage wires were plugged into the bread board... did it matter ? did the rest of the circuit give a faulty result on the amperage?

They were plugged into the breadboard. However, he didn't have a circuit attached to both those lines. By inserting the probes into both those lines, he was closing the loop with his meter. He was verifying how much amperage his power supply was actually supplying.

Lol I got the very same multimeter in a supermarket.Disturbingly cheap but it does the job for basic circuits.

You'd need a multimeter with the ability to measure capacitance. Or an LCR meter

grumble, again you question something then dont explain it, why was the power supply expected to put out 1 and only putting out 0.45, do you not know why? if not then can you say this instead of leaving us wondering? hard to remember things when all i can think of when it ends is "why is it putting out less than half what its suppose to" and no way to ever find the answer..

There's no load on the circuit. The load is what draws the current from the power supply.

This doesn't make sense. To do V=IR, you need to know two values to get the third. You start by saying the V is 5 and the R is 100, although you correct yourself that V is 2; but how do you know it's 2? You can only know it's 2 be either measuring it (which you didn't mention) or by calculating it, but you can only calculate it if you already know the current, which is what we're supposed to be measuring. In other words, the only known value in this video is R=100. V is assumed to be 2 only because we know the LED is 20mA, but if we knew that, measuring the current is redundant. I suppose if we knew the LED was 3V you could infer that the resistor is resisting the other 2 from the 5 but again this isn't mentioned, nor is it a certain assumption.

I had a question, why can't battery amps stay the same. What I mean by that is, why does the amperage increase to 100+ If the battery is shorted.

omer khan Ohms Law. I = U/R. When you shirten the battery the resistance between the contacts gets really low so you current gets very high.

Yeah, it was pretty irresponsible of him to suggest checking a power supply's output current by shorting the leads with am ammeter without some important safety caveats. That's a good way to get someone hurt if they do it with mains, or potentially ruin a DC power supply.

@@RickinICT True. Then again, if you're measuring mains, then you're supposed to know that the amperage is way more than 10A (at least in 240v sockets), which is the maximum on most multimeters.
