Awesome explaination thanks for making this video. Many doctors don't explain MRI results. My neuro when I ask how many lesions etc just says does it matter? I believe it is helpful for us MS patients to know and understand. It also helps us to see when we are on track.This video was helpful to me for this time I ended up not only having new lesions but showing the dreaded blackholes. Knowing these might and can go away with the right medication was hopeful to me thank you!

You can often get a disc with your MRI images. The images can be opened in an image manipulation program like PhotoShop

+metaspencer Most MRI CDs come with software on the CD itself to view the MRI images. If the CD doesn't open spontaneously, you can often click on the application file when viewing the list of the CD contents. I have just left hospital after 2.5 months learning to walk and talk again . I was told nothing was in the scan so it can’t be ms . However I was discharged and saw it says “ left lobe t2 hyper sensitivies ‘ isn’t that the area to do with walking and talking . I have met with m s society who said 40% don’t have lesions show on mri if they are microscopic .yet the symptoms are still there . They also said 10% don’t show wirh spinal tap and mri . I was instead told I have FND . However I know this is often misdiagnosed when it’s ms esp if you have functional symptoms as a result of the m s symptoms. Would you suggest I get further testing / second opinion ? I am very fit , super healthy to a fault , don’t drink or smoke or take any medications .

May I ask, is an MRI powered at 3T, with 3.5 mm slices and gaps, 8 minute session sufficient to be able to see the types of lesions or damage that are stroke or MS related? If the above MRI is read as normal, does a patient require further testing, if MS Symptoms are present?
@DrBarrySinger
@DrBarrySinger 5 лет назад
Most closed MRI scans use 1.5 Tesla magnetic power, but 3 T (Tesla) gives you even better views (especially of the spinal cord). A normal MRI brain doesn't rule out multiple sclerosis. MS can affect optic nerves and cervical/thoracic spinal cord while sometimes (but not frequently) spare the brain.

Depending on the location and appearance of the white matter lesions and your symptoms, sometimes a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis can be made. MRI of the cervical and thoracic spinal cord, spinal fluid testing and visual evoked potentials can also help confirm MS. @Practical 100% i'm no specialist or anything, but if you notice that the leg tightness leaves every time you eat or drink something, then i wouldn't think it's a symptom of MS at all, because the MS symptom should be there regardless of whether you're eating or not. I do know that many physicians say that a symptom of MS should last at least 24 hours, so if yours doesn't then that might also be an indication that it's not MS. In either case, see a doctor because I'm not a specialist but I don't think you should be afraid.
