I really get the warm & fuzzies and a rush of childhood memories from this. God bless whoever posted this. Oh how I wish this was on the DVD set of Schoolhouse rock.
Love seeing this again I was 9 years old when it began airing. I used to have the Soundtrack to all of the multiplication rock episodes on a 33 rpm record album.
This intro is rare. Because this was one of the first entries when it became "Schoolhouse Rock". After all four of the series like "Grammar", "Science" and "America".
Later airings included part of this bumper, but cut it off right before "is brought to you by"...eliminating the poor pool-hustling cat and Twelvetoes. A moment of silence, please.
Wow, I remember this intro when it was first run in the early '70s. Multiplication Rock came the first year. The other school subjects came the within the next few years, so they changed it to Schoolhouse Rock at that point.
Yesterday, I received a complete ABC netwok 16 millimeter print of the one with Noah's Ark. It has the opening with sponsor billboard (Nabisco), then the cartoon, then a commercial for Fig Newtons with Big Fig, then the closing.
@MrRegg69 - Right? I was 4 as well , yet I don't remember this opening or the Nabisco one! I'm all "It's Schoolhouse Rocky, a chip off the block..." This clip looks so... old! Anything from the early 70s creeps me out a bit, though. I feel steadier around 1976!
If you can 100% remember seeing this, then by all means, please share these shorts with your children and grandchildren. Unless you already did that...
I don't EVER remember seeing this from back in the day, but I'm at least glad I can see it now. (And freeze-frame Figure Eight...isn't she just the cutest? ❤ )
She also plays drums in Lucy Seven Samson's Funky Numberland Band, too. Also part of the band, the farmer strums his traditional guitar, the dog howls, the musician of "Three is a Magic Number" plays a triangle, kid superhero "My Hero Zero" (who actually predated Schoolhouse Rocky as the mascot for the series, since "My Hero Zero" is the inspiration for Schoolhouse Rocky conceptually) toots a mean saxophone, the Fat Cat mobster from "Naughty Number Nine" plays a bass & the alien Twelvetoes plays a keyboard synthesizer. As band leader, rabbit Lucky Seven Sampson plays electric guitar.
I posted the original end credits for Multiplication Rock, that's the only other rarity I have - unless you want me to bust out the 80's Cloris Leachman filler :)
See. I started drinking coffee when I was 7, because I was able to connect General Foods that I saw on Schoolhouse Rock to General Foods Intenational Coffee ads, and then I asked my mom if I could start drinking coffee like her, and she let me! And now I have hair on my chest!
Wow, I remember this. I remember being a little freaked out when the cartoon body separated as the GF logo came up, for some reason. Nice find! Thanks.
Yep. My Hero Zero covers both 0 AND 10 (and all subsequent multiples thereafter, from 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, a thousand, a million, a billion, a trillion & onward towards infinity). "Sure, it represents nothing alone, but place a zero after 1 & you've got yourself a 10...."
@murielsartre This came out in 1973, so it is pretty old depending on your standards. Being that I was 9 years old at the time, I remember this well and get a big nostalgia rush from it. Schoolhouse Rocky was a bit lame for me, but I would have felt differently if that was all I remembered. It's all about what you fondly remember as a child. There was a show called Its About Time (elsewhere on you tube)that sixites kids love, but anyone too young to remember would consider garbage.
What happened to the videos of the credits to Multiplication Rock, as well as the original intro and credits to "Grammar Rock"? (I have them saved, so I might re-post them depending on whether or not I have your permission to do so...)
There were four original openings. two for Multiplication Rock ('73,sponser by General Foods and Nabisco)and one for Grammer Rock ('75)and America Rock ('76 Both by Nabisco only). Science Rock (78)didn't have an opening because by '77 the bundle the segments to make Schoolhouse Rock into one.
