Kit Creep

The Outdoor Research Wallcreeper is one of those really neat pieces of kit that many have seen but have no idea what it does. In this video, I demonstrate it features, uses, and drawbacks.
Although originally built for military applications, its multipurpose, lightweight, and rugged construction proves invaluable for serious outdoorsmen.

How are you supposed to have access to your plate carrier or other gear while wearing all of that? Great video!
@KitCreep

The wallcreeper definitely isn’t well suited for integration with lbe. It really is more of a bivy than it is rain gear. The USGI poncho is far better suited for covering you and your kit while still allowing access to your mags, admin, etc. I demonstrate different wet weather tops and bottoms and their relationships with kit in my previous video on wet weather gear. Hopefully that video can help you find rain gear that suits your needs. Great question. Thank you!

Most of the time, we just said to hell with it and stayed wet. It was either that or sweat to death if you are on a hump or in movement. Now if we were set up in an ambush, or LP, OP or on FOB we would rock it, but for grunts, we spend most of the time soaked, just part of being a grunt

I can foresee having a head net being an essential piece of kit.

Definitely. Outdoor research also makes the Bug Bivy. Would probably work perfectly with this.

get some milsurp trouser blousers for use as shock cords for your tie off points and you'll suffer a lot less tears of your shelter element. I use a net hammock and a couple of Amazon half lb each "cut leaf" type of camo nets. They work really well and can be wrapped around you as insulation, between two of the 1/4 lb each amazon full body bugnet "suits". Wear the assembly as long johns. and they help about 10F degree's worth. I sometimes wear my reflective tyvek bivy and its sheet plastic "envelope' as clothing, cause I hate carrying stuff that only has one use.

Seems inspired by the Jerven Fjellduken bags. They are much more versatile IMO if you're looking at a piece of gear like this.

Helikon Tex Swagman or Hill People Gear MOUNTAIN SERAPE are great. Also for bugs use a head net or similar with draw string.

The bivy looks good for if your not looking to fight and the poncho is. If your a soldier your going to be sleeping in mud holes (from what I’ve gathered) or sand holes, some kind of shit hole you will be located. Not great for a bivy but a little hole with a poncho would be alright and let you be fight ready while the bivy would be like if your in a medium permissive environment and are not on some front lines. Those Who want their plate carriers: poncho Those who are trying to be lightweight and sneaky: bivy

An interesting piece of gear. Hilleberg has their bivanorak and Outdoor Research has their Wilderness cover. Personally i'd prefer a tarp and rain gear. More versatile and the weight difference is negligible. Good review! Nate
@KitCreep
@KitCreep Год назад
I wish OR would bring back the wilderness cover :( And ya, as much as I love the woodland poncho and WallCreeper, an actual tarp makes for a much better shelter and an actual hard shell makes for much better rain gear. Thank you!

I wonder how hard it would be to supplement this with some bug netting for bivie format, you probably don't need a huge piece, just needs to be setup to secure to the inside of the hood. Would love an exploration of anti-bug combat!

It’s definitely not designed for movement. The poncho configuration is more for being static in a torrential downpour.
