The most important advice my mother ever gave me was when I brought my newborn first child home from the hospital. After gushing over my baby’s beauty and health, Mom looked me straight in the eye and said “NEVER allow this child’s will to be stronger than yours, or you will lose control of your home.” I followed that advice from that day on raising our 3 kids, and each of them has thanked their Dad and me for the love and training we gave them. They are now 34, 33, and 31. Thanks, Mom!!!

Margaret Young yes I agree! I have 3 boys, 17, 5, and 2.. my 17 year old I had strong mental health etc and I didn’t struggle mentally when he was young.. but when I had my 5 year old I had a really bad year, and basically had a mental breakdown. I was unable to properly handle him, with discipline etc. and I’m currently trying to undue the mistakes I made with him. He’s not as bad as this boy, but it’s a struggle with him for sure. It’s crazy bc when I had my oldest son and I was a strong parent, I always judged kids and parents who couldn’t do what was necessary. But now I realize, sometimes moms just need support.

@TM2U
@TM2U 4 года назад
Marina D Lol, I was never a friend to my children, nor did I hit them. Discipline is learned by respect and it begins with parents respecting their children. Far too many adults believe they are entitled to belittle, bully and make fun of their children, then of course as the children grow they realize what losers their parents are and have zero respect for them, teachers, authority... Eventually, most survive it though they are not better off for having experienced such treatment. Mental health issues in this country have been exasperated by abuse. Depression, substance abuse and low self esteem are often born out of such experiences. Hitting children is a worn out concept. Educate yourself if you don’t know how to treat infants and children. No excuses anymore, all of the information is available to anyone who cares to learn.

The best parenting advice I ever got was from my college boyfriend’s mother. She always said “I’m not their friend I’m their mother. They have plenty of friends but only one mother.” My mother was very young when she had me and was a single mother and she over shared with me, tried to be my friend and often relied on me to be the responsible one because she “never got to grow up because of me.” She often said that I raised her, which really isn’t funny. I swore to do it differently with mine and I did. It’s not like we never had fun together, because we did, but I never blurred those lines. Now, they’re all respectful, successful adults that were crazy proud of.

I used to work at a day care and was a teacher for the 3yo class, I never had a problem with kids not listening my day would go by smoothly. Another teacher later joined me as the class got bigger I remember her saying the kids never listened to her and she couldn’t understand why, one day she literally started crying out of frustration in front of all the kids. They had to move her to another class because she just couldn’t do it but I always said that the reason the kids didn’t listen is because she was weak and the kids knew and once she stared crying she proved them right. Taken by a bunch of 3yo.

My step sister had hyperactivity and behavior disorder and my dad removed sugar from her diet , he only fed her meat and veggies no sweet potatoes and a few crackers now n then for snack. He saw a huge difference the same day , she played and interacted calmly and took healthy naps. Look on UTube for videos such as "Sweeteners Explained" ,it will explain which sweeteners are good and which are bad because they're just like sugar.

If you start early to discipline them according to their age you don't end up with an out of control six years old!...

Using “sweetheart” when you want your kids to do something, well....it just isn’t going to work. You don’t ask them, you TELL them to go to bed, in no uncertain terms. “Up to bed. Now” firm, and calm.

I'd NEVER have allowed my son to treat me like that! Believe me! If he had tried that ONCE he would have been VERY sorry afterwards! And he would never ever have tried that again! I love my son too, but exactly that is the reason why I would have taken care that I won't loose my self respect! Clear announcements, clear borderlines. And everything will be fine. Our father had this look when he'd catch us being bad; snake-eyes. He'd get the switch and you'd want to disappear. We loved and respected this man more than anything; we never went to bed feeling guilty about anything (such as getting away with something we knew was wrong) except disappointing him; however the back of our legs would sting for a while. He was fair, we had boundaries and that was a secure feeling. How I miss him.

I never had much problem getting my kids to bed. Sometimes they pouted and pleaded to stay up but when I said "No, go to bed", they went. I had a routine from birth. When my babies were still having their night feeds, I cuddled them but did not play with them. I used a dim light and they grew up accepting that night time was for sleeping. When they were older I would remind them that bedtime would be in half an hour. That gave them a chance to wrap up what they were doing. It worked. This woman is unbelievable, crying instead of putting her foot down. She is the adult and she should be in charge, not her 6 year old child.

If someone spoke to me in that quivering little mouse voice, I wouldn’t listen, either! Where is the commanding voice? Don’t ask, tell him what you expect and demand results. Where are the consequences? I would clear out every toy and electronic. I never understand why parents are so afraid to parent.
