I watched POROMA in Hindi, got my own VHS tape (it was before the days of DVD). Loved the film,but then my husband tookit fromme & locked it upin his offce. I used to watch the movie,go into deep depression for weeks. Then get out of it,& after a few weeks,would go & watch it again... Another of the movies that had the same effect on me was Spandan (another Aparna Sen Starrer)

I respect & admire Aparna sen, but may be she doesn't get it that hers & her showbiz colleagues' & her "intellectuals"" tjought & perception is NOT the only one, & is NOT THE REALITY... She ie denying the Hindus their very right to exist, I am trying to understand this suicidal tendency of the "modern,intellectual Hindus..." She claims to be very perceptive & sensitive to intolerance, but is NOT ABLE to see the way 80% of the population, the ORIGINAL INHABITANTS of India are being treated? May be it is the bubble they live in, kind of the likes of the character of Meethi in the movie 15 Park Avenue... they are SCHIZOPHRENIC & are convinced, like ALL the schizophrenics are, that they are the only ones with clarity & sanity & humanity, & rest of us, the majority are just brainless critters. They are the Gandhians who, like the nun in the Chaucer's prologue to the Canterbury tales, loves the cat, & is appalled when someone even utters a rude word to the cat, but is more than happy to have a chicken killed to feed the cat.
