#Mumbai's road infrastructure is choking, travel times take hours longer than they should but activists appealed to the courts and managed a stay on the coastal road, further frustrating commuters. Bisbo gives you an overview of the project, spelling out the main features of the road and the main objections to it. The video is made keeping in mind non Mumbaikars, who can do a #Mumbaidarshan via the video. So have a look and enjoy the ride. #mumbaicoastalroad #mumbainews

This is a very good project just like the hyperloop in pune.These ecologists don't have problems when these type of projects are made in foreign countries
@MashZ
@MashZ 3 года назад
Heyperloop is an experimental waste of money. It's better to just build a maglev or bullet(high speed) rail
@MashZ
@MashZ 3 года назад
@H J Just common sense. Hyperloop is literally planned to be a maglev in a low pressure tube. Maglev is already pretty expensive to build. Adding a tube around it and more infrastructure to maintain low pressure would be insanely more expensive. There's no way in earth that Hyperloop can be cheap to build
@MashZ
@MashZ 3 года назад
@H J And who will maintain the vaccum? It'll require lots of power to suck the air out using pumps and maintain the vaccume. Also, since It'll have electrical magnets like maglev, It'll require almost as much power as a maglev train. Some power will be saved due to lack of friction, but the power required to maintain the vaccume would be higher
@MashZ
@MashZ 3 года назад
@H J hyperloop would also need constant magnetic force to keep the train levitating and running. The vaccume is just there to eliminate friction with air, making high speed travel possible. So no, hyprloop cannot run without constant power. You should study more on it
@MashZ
@MashZ 3 года назад
@H J It's basic physics. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed between various forms. So something in a vaccume won’t start magically running at high speed. To generate the kinetic energy, you need to use some other energy on it and convert it to kinetic energy. The kinetic energy(speed) wont just come out of thin air for the hyperloop to run. So It'll need power

As an anthropologist who conducted research among Koli community last year, I can confirm that going just further is not a small issue. We are talking about 6-8 km increased distance in last 15 years already. One tandel told me that sometimes they go beyond national water limits. This is putting their lives in lot of unnecessary risk. Do you know the reason? The waste from industries and cities. We have already destroyed their livelihood. Also do you know that Maharashtra is facing fish drought where procurement of fishes have dropped by 40%? And unlike farmers government won't give fishermen any concession.

Three points to make an objection on: 1) you sarcastically said animals have greater rights than human rights. That’s clearly false. Humans have for centuries trampled over nature, now that some people (who you call activists) are protesting and asking us to consider environmental impact, you make it a point of humans vs animals. That’s really unfair. Secondly) there is no study you’ll find in the world that will support the theory that building a new road will reduce the number of miles driven (and hence saving foreign reserves). All that WILL HAPPEN is that more people will start driving and thus using more fuel. Thirdly) of all the people stuck in traffic. How many actually cross the city north to south and suffer from 75 minute commutes. Most people drive locally. There are very few people who do the full journey and the question that should be asked is why such a journey needs to be taken on a regular basis. I’d rather than the road, a metro train was built, the costs could be lower and more people would be able to use it. The world needs more public transport. Not roads/highways which is a really inefficient way of travelling. India right now has the money to build infrastructure. It should make long term wise investments and not blow it on short term fixes that cost money now and in the future.

Mumbai needs new canals, metro lines and cycling lanes instead of new roads! Cycles, and walking are healthy alternative to cars, and in monsoon, canals will be handy to travel around. Moreover, canals and waterways will help fishermen! For common people, a Metro is proven way to reduce pollution and metro can be built underground or above the current roads.

@arunkottolli
@arunkottolli 4 года назад
@@varunjiddi7023 Mumbai is built mostly on reclaimed land, and natural water channels have been blocked and buildings are built on natural water channels, which causes flooding during monsoon. So building canals will take away excess water during monsoon and avoid flooding in monsoon. Secondly, cars are the inefficient modes of transportation inside cities. Cycles and metro are much more effective in moving people arround without traffic jams andw without pollution. Thirdly, building a new highway is just a wasteful expenditure, as it increases number of cars, causing more pollution and traffic jams
@varunjiddi7023
@varunjiddi7023 4 года назад
@@arunkottolli You think and tell me is this feasible. Flood is not only the problem faced only by Mumbai every year. Since Mumbai is a region which receives a significant amount of rain and authorities had not taken enough step to control the proper flow of water is why it sees flood every year. You can't say that people can't settle on these places, we need to come out of that thought process of we should not settle here or there because if we keep thinking this way there would never be space for 130 cr people in our country. Now the next point I agree cycles should be encouraged but do you think people in India which is still developing country can spare this much time for traveling. These ideas you suggest are for European countries who have enough money, space, and fewer people to implement and work only for 6-8 hours a day. But people in Mumbai work on an average for 10-12 hours, now you ask them after that mental strain or physical strain to ride bicycles or travel walking for the next 1 hour. Think this way as well, if there is left social thought we should consider the feasibility of it as well. I will definitely buy a car if I have money and my time is valuable for my family to spend with instead of walking given that I have no time to spend on riding a bicycle. The third point, Building highways get you investment, industries would be developed and people would get a JOB. DO you want to see people jobless have no money to eat or die of hunger no right? So we should accept the very fact that we have poverty to deal with. If I was a person in a western country with a lot of money, less population, and enough space and the authorities would have been doing this then I would myself oppose it but we are not that rich. If you say don't build this then provide a feasible alternative where I have enough money to enjoy my life riding bicycle, my kids fed well and have worries about the future as well because I have money.
@arunkottolli
@arunkottolli 4 года назад
@@varunjiddi7023 You probably don't have the first hand experience of seeing and doing what I had recommended. Once you experience it, your opinion will change. I have experienced this first hand in Bangalore. Traveling by car to my work place takes longer time and is more stressful than cycling or Metro. Regarding canals, I am talking about building proper canals that take away excess water during rains, and create proper drainage in the city. The original British planners had incorporated canals into the urban plan, but that has been destroyed by independent India and squatters. Floods in Mumbai will only increase in the future, and will hurt poor people more than the rich. Thus it makes sense to give up some land to get a better life and avoid damaging floods. The city has to be planned to handle heavy rain and avoid flooding. This is not a rich bs poor debate, it's doing what's right for all citizens - i.e. provide safe living conditions at all times. A city like Mumbai ( Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai) needs a large metro network, probably about 500+ kms. Building such a network creates huge amount of jobs, and new livelihoods will be built around metro network. It will make Mumbai less polluted and cleaner air, than encouraging private cars on huge highways. If you are living in Mumbai, tell me if the western expressway reduce the travel time during 8Am to 10 Am? (Covid times doesn't count). Every time I travel to Mumbai, all taxi drivers advice me to avoid using Western express Highway. New highways does not solve travel time problem. We have seen new highways fail in all cities: Houston, Boston, London, Delhi, Bangalore, etc.. Highways create more traffic and traffic jams, thus slowing down travel speed. Instead, we need to look at other modes of transport. A mix of cycles and metro will do wonders.

Making more and more highways/roads will only increase the car traffic, not reduce it. Every big roadway aims to reduce traffic, but in 5-6 years it also gets clogged up.

Flyovers, highways and coastal expressways. These are part of American car culture. A man doesn't necessarily need to buy expensive car and has to move tonnes of weight for a single person in order to move around city. And building more roads has only proven to increase traffic and car usage in US. US is making up fot the mistakes they made by decommissioning those coastal roads. We need to disincentivize the use of cars in the city and follow European model where public transport, bicycle lanes and pedestrian zones help the city in aspects such as efficiency, cost of living, quality of life, eco-friendliness. This comes with another con that it'd impact mental health and productivity of Mumbaikars. They'd rather have a coastal park than flyovers everywhere further alienating and irritating them with constant honking and pollution. Compare this with one of the pros you mentioned : "You'll get to view home of celebrities."

Magroves and corals are necessary. They protect Mumbai from coastal erosion similarly arey forest, it is the green lungs of a highly pollutted city like Mumbai. Environment should be the first priority we human beings are integral part of nature not seperate from it. If our mother gets destroyed we ourselves will be destroyed. And about development let projects take place without hurting the environment. Ok if your problem is pvt real estate agents then best thing to do is oppose them. If one person destroyes the environment it does not give right for others to do the same. Afterall two wrongs don't make one right. Also what justification does it takes to not conducting an environmental impact assessment.

There is a counter argument to such development. It has been seen that new roads encourage more people to buy cars (European cities have stopped building new motorways). For example, metro 3 goes through Grant Road. Which already has a congested railway station and market. Many people from banganga, malabar hill, nepean sea road, peddar road have to rely on narrow congested roads to get grant road, which is not pedestrian friendly. The problem with such planning is that it completely ignores pedestrian walk paths. Many people will happily walk 1-3 kms given wide walk paths, subways. Which is great for traffic. The testament to success of such planning can be seen in fort. Let's see about the new parks. I live on the coast and the construction which has for over a year been incessantly drilling and working throughout night to the detriment of my health. They have built lot of offices and it looks like not an inch of green space will be created. They have infact taken a small part of the land from Priyadarshini park. The biggest problem even if they create green spaces, private residential land blocks of access to the promenades. How are these green spaces to be accessed, After filing multiple cases has BMC clarified that the zone will not be commercialized. Land mafia is not to be underestimated. I really have stopped caring about benefits because most Mumbaikars don't really give a shit about dynamite being blasted at night. Because they get to enjoy the open road from the result of my insomnia, Rant end
