Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden, also known as Victoria Gardens, is one of the oldest zoos and botanical gardens in India. Located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, it was established in 1861. The garden is named after Jijabai, the mother of Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire.
Originally, the botanical garden was laid out by the Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India. It spans over 48 acres and features a vast variety of flora and fauna. The garden is divided into several sections, including a palm court, flower beds, a conservatory, and various themed gardens.
Apart from its botanical attractions, the garden also houses a zoo which is home to a diverse range of animal species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. The zoo plays a significant role in wildlife conservation and education in Mumbai.
Over the years, Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo has remained a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a serene escape from bustling city life and a chance to connect with nature.
