As a black woman who lives in Philly, this is absolutely ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with dressing up maybe as an African American artist/actor/singer you want to dedicate an outfit to....but that isn't even the case here. There's no blackface happening, there is no mockery of African Americans at all. It's a freaking gritty them. Orange, BLACK, and white. There's nothing racist going on here! People need to stop being sensitive and taking things out of proportion. Are you going to ban white people from wearing black paint all together? Stupid, just stupid. They shouldn't have been disqualified, their outfits were fine.

Froggy car had a gritty theme. Gritty is the mascot for the Philadelphia flyers. The flyers colors are BLACK AND ORANGE. Some guys painted faces black and some orange. Pretty simple.

Just don't do it period. I don't understand why that is so hard for people to get. I'm a white person. I can tell you it is racist. A white person painting their face black is racist *regardless of the intent*. And if you're a white person and you claim to not be racist, then your wouldn't wear black face. Period. It doesn't really make any sense to walk around wearing black face and simultaneously say out your mouth "I'm not racist." If you weren't you wouldn't wear black face...like duh. It's embarrassing to even have to explain that... White people don't want to be "overt" racists so instead we use covert ways to express our racism. This is one of those ways. It's really easy to not paint your face black. I go every day without painting my face black. It's the easiest thing to do. And last point not one single white man who painted his face black that day didn't know in his mind that what he was doing was gonna be seen as racist. Everyone is fully aware of what we're doing, we are grown adults. At the end of the day, this is really just white people letting black people know that we don't give a fuck what they think, we're gonna paint our faces black if we want to. It's us openly disregarding black people. Period. All the excuses are just that - excuses.
