I owned a historic home downtown on East Adams for 13 years when the federal government gave a grant to the city to revitalize our homes. Building commissioners brother bought the home next to me. they funneled most of the money to him, I didnt see a dime.
Yes, that and the waste management scandal, and the landlord companies gobbling up every house in sight, and the property taxes that are supposed to go to our schools but they shut them down and then wasted the rest of our property tax dollars on pleasing Koch Industries aka Ball State. This city is a waste. The most it’s people can muster in resistance to the city council is a single day of protest, and then nothing changes at all. In fact it’s worse than ever.
what about the abandoned homes that are half ass rennovated and rented out to low income families, who then become trapped under lease and even the building commissioner and health department have no power
Many of these homes could have been fixed up and inhabitanted. I bought a repo decades ago boarded up with wallpaper falling off the walls and warped paneling. Couple holes in the walls and floors. A year later of DIY repairs and it was pretty nice. Been living in it over 3 decades. Too much reusable stuff gets thrown away in our society.
You have to be stupid. These are not extravagant homes. Subprime lending is a problem when a home is outside your means, and these houses don’t even crack $100k. We lost some of our largest sources of employment, borg warner, and the mall. The city has been raising property taxes consistently while simultaneously shutting down schools and misappropriating school funds aka those same tax dollars from property taxes. We have real estate companies buying up every property in sight, to rent out to students for a ridiculous rate, and do absolutely nothing to fix these properties until they are unusable, at which point they just sell it to a local sucker. All on the Republicans watch, and then we gotta suffer moron outsiders like you with a half baked opinion they formed on Fox News. You don’t know 💩
Many might be amazed about who actually owns these properties. Politicians, city officials? And if found out, they should be exposed for it! No matter what political affiliations they are.
