A lot of very pissed off Argentines in the comments. Didn’t you guys win the World Cup staged in your country in 1978? I seem to recall you got a few decisions then. And then there was that game against Peru....🤔 P.S Before you start calling me a pirate, I actually rather like Argentine football and that you deserved to win the 1986 World Cup (even though it was highly irritating at the time...)
England winning the World Cup in 1966 was my first real memory of a major sporting event. Little did I realize that I would probably never see England achieve such sporting greatness again. My mom took me to the cinema to watch this documovie, and little did I realize how much I took my mom for granted. Wish I could go back and relive those 90 minutes. Miss you so much mom.
I went to the group games at Goodison and Old Trafford with my dad and granddad. I was 10 and I can recall the sights and sounds of those games. I didn't go to an England game because they were all in London, but I saw Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, and Bulgaria, and later North Korea. Watched the semi-final and final on TV.
@@Ruda-n4h Seeing players like Pele, Eusebio, and Garrincha in the flesh was amazing. I remember the North Koreans and the reception they got at Goodison, It was a different world then.
@@mnd1955 Indeed it was. There was obviously little coverage of foreign football back then compared with the saturation now, so people were unaware of a lot of players until the World Cup came around. It produced magic and mystery.
Remember watching this film as a kid. I wasn't born at the time so I almsot felt like I was there afterwards. The screenplay was by distinguished journalist Brian Glanville whose books/articles are always worth a read.
The West German team took defeat very well, very sportsman like. If you compare them to the Argentine team and the Uruguayan team. This team formed the spine of the team that went on to dominate international football, by becoming European champions in '72 and World Champions in '74 .They were almost invincible in the 70's and are favourites to win most major tournaments from this era and on.
@@richardloring7545 You sure you know what you're talking about, old chap? I wasn't aware the West German football team ever killed anyone, let alone millions.
Funny how they forgot to mention the referee in Argentina-England was german and at the same stage the referee in Uruguay-German was english. Strangely enough, both games ended up in controversy, with several south american players sent off.
It was all arranged for England to win a title they never deserved. What you mention here is part of FIFA's corruption. They made again something similar in Argentina '78 with the militar Junta.
@Fusilier just filthy, should replace that flag with the poo emoji or the middle finger will also do. will represent them better than light blue and white stripes with a sun in the middle
you probably dont care but if you're bored like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend recently =)
Brasil mal escalado. Gente que não merecia ser cortado foi . O time ideal seria: Gilmar,C.Alberto, Djalma Dias, Orlando e Paulo Henrique. Roberto Dias e Gerson . Jairzinho, Tostão, Pelé e Edu.
Thank you for making this available. As far as I know, it has never been released on DVD so every copy is based on the VHS release at 4:3 ratio. When it was shown in cinemas back in 1966/67 it was in full widescreen.
Aaahhhh...the 1960's! So perfectly imperfect compared to our technologically hyper-perfected soulless 2020's....Life was much, much simpler and therefore better then...
R.I.P. 25/01/1942-04/01/2014 Eusébio was Africa's first international football star. Benfica: Helped side beat Real Madrid 5-3 in the European Cup final in 1962. Won 10 league championships and five cups in his 15 years at Benfica. European Footballer of the Year in 1965 He went on to score a phenomenal 727 goals in 715 games for his beloved Benfica. Portugal: Scored 41 goals in 64 internationals. Eusébio won 64 caps for Portugal and the European Cup with Benfica in 1962 Top scorer at the 1966 World Cup with 9 goals.
@@brandaoz More like the Congolese wing-half, Paul Bonga Bonga, who was little known in England, but was a star in Belgium where he was the motor of Standard Liege.
That cup was in England the funny thing is the only time in history that England finished on top to become champions, the idea was to get Pelé out of the way; and they did exactly that, also make sure that no south American country wins again; embarrassment to Europe; Eusebio was the star on that cup, but didn’t last long, so Brazil came back to win the 1970 cup plus others. Long live the ‘O Rey Pelé.
The film original is now supposed to be lost. This is the only colour record of 66. There has been a recent colourisation of the UK video footage of the 66 final. But this is so much better.
I love England, United Kingdom of the Great Britain, i love football, these FIFA World Cup 1966, be the first commercializied on the history of the tournament, i like that England organized the tournament of the year 2042, really be good, it´s a powerless team on these time, 1966 team, headed by Bobby Moore, with Geoff Hurst, with all and phantom goal, wins with justice these World Cup, much better Spain on the organization, as said the english people: FOOTBALL COMES HOME!!!!!
Bob Charutos comandou o time, Banks pegou tudo, e Hurst decidiu. E naquele gol discutível a bola entrou sim. Veja o lance mostrado na lateral, na linha e fundo.
The title is in spanish but I guess the majority speaks Englis. So I was about 3 years old baby so I am amazed and surprised about the film very clear and think even better than in this days.
Argentinos e Uruguaios sempre cativeiro e violentos.
Without Rattin's expulsion, Argentina wouldn't have lost the QF against England. I've seen the full match several times as it is still available online, so I'm qualified to express an educated opinion. This "official" FIFA film is nothing else but disgusting propaganda the way it was edited.
And if Maradona hadn't used his hand, England might not have lost against Argentina in 1986. At least not after 90 minutes. Everything evens itself out
Yes.. but Maradona was just a player. England fixed the whole tournament and somehow they still manage to look down on other countries calling them cheaters.
@@amirkalaji6753 And Rattin was just a player. There is no evidence that England fixed the tournament. If they did it was strange that West Germany's equaliser in the final came from a free-kick that should not have been given. The host nation at a World Cup has always had an advantage, not only playing in front of the home crowd but also the pressure it puts on referees. As well as England in 1966, I doubt whether West Germany in 1974 and Argentina in 1978 would have won the World Cup had they not staged it. The Germans had an easy first round draw and played their decisive second round match on a pitch that was disadvantageous to their opponents, instead of postponing it. However, I don’t begrudge them their victory as they deserved to win the final on the day because they were the more positive team. Similarly in 1978 Argentina had the advantage of playing all their games after their opponents, had several controversial decisions go their way in the early games and there was the game against Peru where nothing has ever been proven. And in the final a very weak referee always gave them the benefit of the doubt, but again they were worthy winners - an attacking team built to go forward. Don't forget Peru's Munante hit the post against Argentina and Rensenbrink for Holland in the last minute.
Eusebio was the king of this world cup!!!! Portuguese team officials were paid off to have the semi final on England home field. Portuguese team was going to win the world cup but the Queen would not have that! Portuguese team had several black players.......she could not have that!
Don't be ridiculous she was the head of the Commonwealth. Portugal would have won if Eusebio hadn't done his usual showboating. If you watch the game you can see Mario Coluna remonstrating with him.
The only mistake Fiola did was not putting Garrincha in the Portugal match. After Pele injured Brazil was toothless even though Jairzinho did make an impact in the second half.
