I actually read the story behind this. It was in Save Me From Myself (Heads book). Head promised Munky he wouldn't do meth the night before this interview. But Head went against his promise and snorted about 6 lines that night. That is why Head is acting weird, and Munky looks a little pissed at him.
He's talking about things that wouldn't traditionally go well together. Like 2 different low rhythm riffs. The intro riff to Falling Away From Me is a good example. Not the wind up kids toy sound. The heavy part before the first riff.
@@domcaron1196 Untouchables was awesome too and Take a Look In The Mirror a bit less but still a good one. When David and Head left is when they fell off.
@@eviemae4846yup, I read that in Brian’s book. This is kinda random but Brian said he got clean for a bit, then 9/11 happened and he said he got heavy into meth after that, which to me, is why I think all the Korn albums after Issues sucked hard compared to their last 4. Like man I listened to untouchables again today, it SUCKS, TALITM is pretty trash too. Imo, Head is the glue that brings the band together
@@eviemae4846 Self Titled is like Coca Cola, it’s timeless. My favorite album is Life is Peachy. Instrumentally speaking, LiP is their best record they’ve ever made, Jon’s lyrics kinda take away from certain songs like Mr Roger’s, Kunts, Adidas, and Kill You, I only listen to them for the instruments lol
@@kdog6793 life is peachy is a masterpiece! I love all of their albums from the 90s but my favourite still has to be their first. I especially love the songs clown, shoots and ladders and blind. One of my personal favourites from life is peachy is probably wicked feat. Chino Moreno. I know that lots of people don't like it but it just puts me into a nice state of mind. I also like deaftones so it just ads to my love of that song.
Yeah if the rhythm guitarist plays a G5th add9 chord, then the lead should follow the highest note of the chord in a octave higher. Then it would be: a5th octave A.
I've always loved Korn. The first time I ever heard their music the first thing that stood out to me was the guitars. I had never heard such a "symbiotic" style between two players.
4:06 Munkey is just like, man just let me do the talkin you tweeked! That said and with Head being a big inspiration and personal hero of mine I'm so glad he cleaned up. I went down that path myself and knew I was going to die unless I changed. Over 15 years clean now.
Munky trying so hard to keep the interview from bombing but Head is of no help. [Maybe if we just start playing, we'll look more sober] {Plays extremely dissonent/offtune/unsyncopated guitar chords} "And yeah, we just mess around even if it sounds strange" [Smooth, Munky]
they dont use solos because they dont need them. I think the no using solos thing is a very good way of making a song with a different structure. I think also that they both make interesting bases, arpeggios, effects and stuff and the two guitars are combined very well together.
Imagine walking in there from the future and handing them an 8 string. They’d be like “WOah maaan”. This is one of the funniest guitar discussion/artist videos I’ve ever seen.
I really think the guitarists of Korn are excellent at what they do. They aren't about to premier any major guitar concertos any time soon, but I think the sounds and moods they can achieve is truly outstanding and has really attributed to Korn's sound.
Well, they found their sound, which is ultimate goal in any type of music and hail to them both for that. How they did that being high as fuck all the time, remains a mistery. Or maybe that's how they did that. The sound they get from those guitars is perfectly fit to the state they reached as it prevents from playing anything else. But it's good nonetheless.
I recently saw a video of Korn’s gear tour from when they were on tour in 2017 and Munky had that same swirled Universe guitar that head was playing in this video.
I agree. Korn was one of the first bands I actually got into when I was 13. I listen to them almost everyday. My favorite albums are Life Is Peachy, Issues, Take A Look In The Mirror, and See You On The Other Side. My favorite songs are too numerous to name but my absolute favorites are Divine, Blind, Freak On A Leash (First Korn song I ever heard), Love Song, Good God, Got The Life, Falling Away From Me, Make Me Bad, Here To Stay, Right Now, Y'all Want A Single, Starting Over...and so on..
God, this video takes me back to my teens. Saw Korn in 97 during their Life is Peachy tour. Few knew who they were back then. Ahh...great times man. Haha...Head was tweekin balls in this interview.
i play guitar myself, and playing fast and technical is easier then it looks, its not hard, i enjoy playing korn because when i do covers of the music i feel like the riffs are speaking through the instrument because the guitar tuning is dropped so low, it just feels good, but when i play technical its just to quick you dont get to enjoy the music and emotion itself, you concerntrate to much on playing the technical notes you forgot what the songs all about, just my opinion, im sure many agree.
say what you want about Korn, but they brought something new and original to the table. Not too many other groups can claim the accomplishments that this band has. They're just so raw, and every element in the band (no matter how shitty it my sound by itself) comes together nicely.
Jonathan davis puts his soul into his lyrics and he cares more about music then 99% of the entire music industry. If you cant find soul in his lyrics then you are just another person trying to find everything that you hate about their music.. The guitars are just based around his lyrics and they bring it to life.
This vid brings back memories. I was a big fan of Korn back then, seen them several times back then and in this very year, I got my second guitar.........my Ibanez. Ibanez makes some awesome guitars, but even better basses
this is such a great band. Munky is one of my idols when it comes to guitar, and i love him man, hes amazing Head is good too, i just always liked Munky more... idk why... but anyway... I WANT A K7!!!
You said it man. These guys and Tom Morello are some of the most creative musicains in the last 20 years. They showed alot of ppl that good songs don't have to have solos.
@@ChrisJohnson1988 false. It's in Head's book. He told Munky he wouldn't do any meth before this interview but he lied and did a bunch. He is clearly fucked here.
I finally identified the guitar that Munky is playing, is a S540-7, meanwhile Head is playing a UV77MC, that according to some people is missing the volume and tone knobs.
Garegin Asatryan they hadn't figured down tuning out to that level yet. It was as low as any had gone at that point. You are accurate though mesugga (probably sp wrong) and a lot of bands go lower now and have been for awhile
I feel like Munky was noticing how much Head was tweaking and fidgiting and couldnt stop moving so he started to get Head to play different songs to give him something to do so he didnt seem so whacked out.
I think that when you've always had money it doesn't make you happy, since you don't know what it's like to not have it. But for the people like us who aren't born rich, money most certainly does buy happiness.
I didn't come here to bash them, I came here to listen to their playing. If you would like to, direct me to some of their songs that you enjoy, and I'll gladly give their actual songs a shot.
On 6:33, they both play different chords and it creates this weird dissonant tone, they tend to do it a lot on other songs. Anyone know what chord the both of them are holding?
The 7 string has come so far since the 1990’s. And Ibanez certainly isn’t the only manufacturer of 7 strings anymore. John Petrucci has a Music Man 7 string signature model, Head has a signature ESP 7 string and I don’t even think Wes Borland plays 7 string guitars anymore.
I'm getting a seven string guitar next week. It's been about six years since I have owned one. I've been playing on a six strings lately, and just been drop tuning my guitar to drop C. When I pick up that guitar it's being set to down A!!!!!! For all you guitarist out there; you know what I am talking about. Watch this video, and understand the maddest.
i consider myself a guitar person. dont like metal much though. i still must insist, munky and head are underrated as hell. There might be other guitarists like them and came before them, but i never heard it. They sound out of tune and heavy as fuck but theres a dissonant beauty to it. All the Korn guys are kinda better than they get credit for. almost makes me wanna stop playing my punk rock garage shit and buy a 7 string. i said almost.
@kornneidermeyersmind theyre called dimarzio blaze pickups. bridge pup is a blaze bridge. middle is a blaze middle and the neck is a blaze middle i think
it's like going home fucked up in high school and being confronted by your parents. munky is the fucked up friend trying to play sober and head is blowing it for him 4:00
@TheGhettoFineLaxer it's because when he was younger, the chain of his motorcycle or bike came off and cut a part of his pinky, after sowing it back as a rehabilitation he was told by his doctor to playing guitar and thats how he started playing guitar.
