I've checked out all the "major" SBC Gaming channels and this one is easily the best, crystal clear tutorials with zero fluff and built-in troubleshooting. Thanks, Phyrex!
@@PhyrexTechs I just took the opportunity to upgrade from a 128 GB single card set up to a 2 card setup (16gb+256gb) while updating muOS. Between this video and your initial setup vid it was relatively painless to move all my ROMs and backup my saves. Thanks again!
Hey! I commented on your Portmaster install video a month ago. I finally got to updating my SP after being away for a month and I was able to get Stardew to work after watching your install guide. Thank you again man, you're great!
Very easy too follow I'm currently setting this up for my brothers kid, tutorial was excellent and super easy too follow thanks for the upload Phyrex. PS. what is that super smooth background music I just love it!
The lid working has really solidified MuOS as my favorite. It just is always on my last game and ready so quick too! Also, not having to try to mess with settings except for removing the GBA logo overlay is amazing.
@@jalene150 I installed it and I just been using the default one that came with muOS it works well for me, the stock OS adds a bit of a extra bezel but I don't miss it. muOS the best tho I made a clone SD card and bought another SP console to have as backup system :P
I also backed up my "themes" and "screenshot" folders from inside the MUOS folder because I didn't want to loose my screenshots and didn't want to remember which themes I had already downloaded / installed. 😉
I've installed muos and so far I'm impressed. Everything is running so smooth on it. Up to DC and PSP. Of course without an analogue stick it's impossible to play some games. I don't think BT is supported right now ? And i've read that using hdmi is problematic as well, some users reported a loss of sound afterwards. But i hope it will be fixed. If that's the case (bt/hdmi working), we may have the best rg35xx os, and by far.
Yeah, muOS is coming along very nicely. The HDMI issue has been fixed with the Baked beans update. Bluetooth like you said is not there yet and is still being worked on.
Looks like you won't have to wait too much longer. Gamma the creator of GammaOS has released a software/driver fix for CFWs to implement. In my discord the muOS dev confirmed it's in the next test release and should be in the next major muOS release.
This is the best 'it just works' operating system I've found for Anbernic devices and TRUST ME I've tried them all. All the settings are already pre-tweaked to make everything run smooth and look really good too. It's just very optimized even at default settings. Just load your ROMs and forget about it. I love it!
I've got this on my 28xx. For the most part it works pretty well. Some things are better (Dreamcast, the addition of Vectrex, the ability to add audio samples to Mame), some worse (the music player, no video player, all the games in a folder are locked into the same core), and some are the same as stock (like N64). One weird issue though, is my Atari 2600 games are offset and no change in aspect ratio fixes it.
If I'm using a single SD card setup but want to drop in a second card with videos on it would I be fine to just make a roms/videos folder on that second card?
I got the SP for my son and the H for myself. Don't plan on 3D gaming with it, but extra buttons are always nice for hotkeys. I run cheevs on Hardcore, so save states are not an option. I guess my son'll deal with Softcore mode for that feature. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the great video! Question: I have a RG35XXplus which has two SD card slots. The muOS resides on the card in slot 1, right? So because we're going to update muOS I made the backups and then took that SD card (from slot 1) out and looked into the BAKCUP folder - it's empty. However, I found the backups in the BACKUP folder on the *2nd* SD card (which mainly holds my ROMs). So that's a bit confusing ...
Yeah muOS is a bit odd when using 2 SD cards. You are correct that it lives on sd, but it will automatically start putting things on the 2nd SD card if it sees one plugged in. Backup is one of them and so are Ports from Portmaster I think.
I have an issue with the new Drastic version not loading my save file from the previous Drastic version. Don’t know how to resolve so I just stuck with the old drastic for now
I do have to say the stockOS for the RGXX group is probably the best stock os for most recent handhelds. So I can see why people would want to stick with it if they already have it setup. I think my 2 biggest draws for muOS recently is Portmaster games, and now the who process for the SP of just closing the lid and having it sleep into shutdown auto-saveState, Power on - auto-launch/load state. It's always better to have too many options then too few. So I hope they all keep improving.
Great video! Can you remap dpad/joystick toggle to power button in N64, DC, PSP like the stock os? Is there a way to change the retroach gui in muos so it looks like the stock os retroach gui?
Strange thing is that muOS doesn't seem to popuilate ROMS folder automatically with empty folders like other CFW. On SD1 there is just empty ROMS folder and SD2 card - formatted was exfat - remains completely empty. Where can I find what folders are to be created for each system? Or is it a bug requiring to reflash the os? Edit: on on 28xx
With muOS you can name the folders whatever you want. muOS will try to auto detect what system it is if you use a common name like NES or SNES ( I briefly show the list and explain it here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FyzhvHpYogE.html) If it does not detect the right system/core you can always change it by just hitting the select button while highlight over a game and choose what system and core you want to use and it will save that for all games in that folder.
@@PhyrexTechs Thx for the reply. I think I will try a single SD card setup since nothing really helps to detect the SD2 card (maybe I got a defect unit just like og rg35xx last year lol). I will check out the video you linked 👌🏻
@@PhyrexTechs Are you positive on that though? VladNerd said they should populate. Anyway I tried to name a folder Dreamcast in Roms folder and put some .chd files, but muOS seems to ignore them. I can launch them from retroarch using load content though. Not sure what's going on there
I'd say it's on par if not better than stock. But that is coming from the fact that I have not tested the last few stock updates. It's about the same as the last muOS version. I have some short clips of performance for the standalone mupen64 in my muOS v11 beans video. And I have some Dreamcast performance clips in the v10 muOS video but it feels like it has improved some since then.
Hello, good morning, I have a couple of questions, can you play nds? With this OS, platforms such as n64, dreamcast, psp are optimized? With this OS, are the same filters applied as well as the Gba logo in the games? Do they serve functions like WiFi and Bluetooth? Thanks, I'm using the translator so my English won't be perfect
Nds, N64, Dreamcast, and PSP are all playable and run pretty well for most games, except the more demanding ones. There are some built in filters and overlays. Some are set by default but can be changed or removed. WiFi is there and working but Bluetooth has not been added yet.
@@caviasjeannete Most likely you should be able to. It will depend on what emulator you were using on the phone. Some emulators are easier than others to transfer saves back and forth to. Now for the process of getting saves off the phone and onto the system. You can either connect your phone to a computer and pull the files off, then put them on the SD card. Or you can connect to the device directly from your phone if they are both connected to the same wifi network.
when i try playing dreamcast games ike sonic adventure, the character doesnt move with the dpad, even when i press the power button, which is supposed to change the dpad to analog
@@jesusojeda6449 Do you currently have the Baked Beans version of muOS? Also when you tap the power button are you getting a vibrate/rumble notification.
OK yeah you need the Baked beans version. I saw your other comment so I think you got this fixed, but wanted to leave it here in case someone else has the same issue.
Great video thank you! I do have an issue when i change the sleep function in settings and then save it the whole system crashes and all i get is a black screen. I then power cycle it and it crashes on the splash screen. I have the RG35XXsp model
Something like that normally indicates something wrong with the flash or isntall when I have seen it. You may want to re-download the firmware and maybe try another SD card. Also avoid using Balena Etcher for flashing as that has caused issues for people.
@@PhyrexTechs the sd card is brand new and I used rufus for the download. I even checked the checksum to see if it matches with my download and it does so I have know idea what's going on with it. Maybe I will try and redownloded the firmware just incase
You will not have to reconnect when waking from sleep. If it has shut down it will take time to reconnect, but if you want it to be connected before starting you can use that network wait setting.
Help please! ROMS on the second SD card not showing up. Thanks for the great video! I'm using a second ScanDisk Ultra 200GB card that is formatted exFAT. The folders set up on the second SD card show up in muOS, but the ROMS in those folders do not show up. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks again.
When you go to "Explore", is it giving you the choice of sd1 and sd2? If so while in sd2, If you hit the X button to try a refresh does that do anything?
@@PhyrexTechs Thanks for your reply. Yes, the SD2 does show up. When I select SD2 and refresh, the individual ROM folders still show up, but the ROMs in the folders still don't show up..
A fix was created , however the port has not been updated on portmaster yet. You can install the fix manually. Download the file from link below and put it in the TMNT port folder. Replace/Overwrite when asked. files.phyrextechs.com/share/T5QG3Zf-
As instructed by the devs, I avoided backing up "Wifi settings" and "Config settings"(favorites get backed up with config) There were some reports of issues with these. But I should have thought of to grab the favorites manually so that is on me, Sorry about that. Hopefully next time we can just backup the config and not have to worry about it.
Hi, nice video!! Can you reshare or someone the stardewvalley files? The link doesnt seem to work, the other for Turtles ninjas in the comments yes, but for stardew doesnt. Thanks!!
I may do an updated video for this in the future, but for now I have a short tutorial in my longer muOS video. You can view it here at this time (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Do_bJWNez4k.html) The only thing that has changed since I made that video is that one of the files required has changed. But its located in the same area. These are the 2 files needed - pico8_64 (instead of pico8_dyn) - pico8.dat
the dreamcast has gotten much worse on the refried beans, dead or alive 2 runs very badly with all the cores, on the previous version, which fortunately I have ,the dreamcast runs very well with flycast xtreme. I don't know what the developers have done but there are some bugs in the software. Let's hope that a new improved version will arrive soon....also they should improve the search for roms a lot because it takes a lifetime to scroll through them all!! They haven't used the back buttons for searching at all for example, as happens within retroarch where with r2 and l2 you can scroll by letter for example, it doesn't take a genius to understand these things!!
When I first tried it I did not notice a big difference. But I learned about and issue with Dreamcast performance in the discord. I happens when the Xtreme core is ran. It causes issues for all the other cores. The fix they recommend is to Reset the Retroarch configs from the toolkit menu. Then to not launch the Xtreme core but keep to the Flycast VL. I just tried this and was getting good performance on the VL core with DoA2.
This bricked my rg28xx 😩 stuck on virtual boy go red screen and won't reset or anything this is a joke man this os isn't good 💯 not your fault but thought should be brought to light 🏆👊
Hey thanks for sharing your experience with it. I have not ran into that myself or heard of others having this issue. The only thing I can think of is to hold the power button down until it powers off. If that does not work, wait for it to run out of battery or unplug the battery. Then reflash the SD card with a newly download copy of the RG28XX version. Some bugs are still to be expected with this being the first version to support the RG28xx. So maybe waiting for a few more updates if you keep running into issues.
@@PhyrexTechs think im going to sell and buy an android tbh mate so much easier to work with and don't have these issues etc and normal updates cheers man
@@PhyrexTechs yeah I have an android phone man so yeah alot easier than Linux tbf even Windows is easier I think I actually got muos back on it now games won't show and followed exactly I give up with it now lol
