@@ThisHandleFeatureIsStupid this was my genuine reaction towards the song as I heard it for the first time watching Muppets treasure island with my family and figured that the best pirate theme i had heard in my life had no business being in a muppet movie. I found this afterwards trying to find the song and this comment was not influenced by any other comment here. Just so happens there are a lot of people with the same opinion of the song. What pathetic life journey led you to get upset by a youtube comment or feel in the mood to attempt to insult someone for having an opinion of a song in a youtube comment section?

I'm amazed he had enough preloaded flintlocks to get through the lot, must have pulled a Joker gambit and tricked at least half of them into saving him the trouble.
Flintlock pistols and muskets were not accurate but they were powerful. They could tear through a man if whatever ball didn't flatten on the way out and through. It's been widely believed dying by one of those was much worse than by a modern bullet. To shoot someone at point blank range would undoubtedly kill them. I wouldn't think it'd be uncommon for a man to load several pistols with one shot to use against several people. With black powder if the balls all fit, someone could use it similar to birdshot like a shotgun. Look at the video though, captain is having his men carry the heavy treasure then dig a hole burying it. That would exhaust the men and leave little gas in the tank for resistance. A captain also knows his crew. Id imagine he would shoot the most formidable fighters and slay the rest with his cutlass. But it is just a movie
Haha, technically sometimes they did double shot their guns (standard practice for cannons) meaning they would load two bullets in, or one ball and grape shot was popular, being smooth boar and muzzle loaded you can put in as much as you want as long as it isn't enough to go past the point of failure, it'll work. Is that what is happening here nah.
Pirates were known for putting multiple smaller pellets in their pistols rather than the large ones, or even using other things as projectiles so it had more of a bird-shot or buckshot effect. They also probably all took their sword & gun belts off while they were digging. And Flint most likely waited until they'd been digging for a while so they'd be exhausted. Once they're tired and pretty worn down, he draws his pistols and fires. Whoever wasn't killed by the pistols will still be wounded, so he can now draw his cutlass and finish them off.
Treasure Island was in the Caribbean. Muppet Treasure Island could be in the South Pacific the way everything there looks. I think it is supposed to be the Caribbean.
Did you even hear the lyrics in the song? It was pretty obvious why he killed them. "Every man aboard would have killed his mate for a bag of guineas or a piece of eight!!!"
So nobody but him would know where the treasure was buried. That being said, he probably had one Hell of a time getting home trying to sail a whole ship by himself.

I don't know about that, the book is far more graphic, I see nothing wrong with these words, most kids don't fully comprehend the concept death anyway, there was no blood or gore in the movie at all, it's a muppet film.
Kids are tougher and smarter than we often give them credit for. I first saw this when I was 5 and I LOVED it! The 'big boy' words you mention made it feel more legit, and still give it a slight touch of class and grit even if it's still obviously a kid's movie. Now that I'm older, I appreciate that these kinds of kid's films didn't mindlessly talk down to me when I was kid.
True, but it was a surprise attack that caught them off-guard. Follow that up with the fact that they had, except the captain himself, worked themselves to an overheated exhaustion by dragging tools, equipment and the chest full of gold (famously heavy) across an entire sun-scorched island and digging a deep enough hole to bury the treasure in. By the time the first two men dropped from those shots, a savvy enough swordsman (as a captain of a treacherous crew would have to be) could get in a few decent slashes with his cutlass before the rest had time to either register what had happened or muster the strength to fight back with their depleted energy and no proper weapons, only tools like shovels and picks.
Come to think of it, so did I! Not even for English class or anything. Like, seriously, I'm not joking! Dang, they didn't teach me anything in that school!
