Turn off traction control, and turn on the four wheel lock mode! This will make all 4 wheels work in a locked mode. Also, it is best to have the low temperature rated off road mud-snow tires. I use these tires in the severe Canadian winters with great success with a Murano AWD having the lock mode option.
My MO is a very capable vehicle in every condition but what you folks have to remember is that it's the driver behind the wheel that makes the vehicle work. B/w I am the author of this vid, and would put the MO's up to any Subaru
I was rooting for the Murano. Although it is predominately a front wheel drive vehicle, its system kicked in even on compacted snow which is a slippery as ice allowing it to accomplish its mission.
Good video. I work in oil fields which get very miserable when it rains or snows/melts, so I need to get a 4x4/awd vehicle.I've been interested in the Murano, and this video made me more confident (I'm sure you would have made it with winter tires easily). I love my new TSX, but the Murano seems to be a vehicle that will be nice enough to drive so I don't go into TSX withdrawal on the job.
The new ones are not as good as old ones. Specially the non Japanese ones. If its Made in Japan its still a quality car. But again with CVT its not meant to be used offroad
There is a reason why you have AWD lock on your Murano. Learn to to use it! Also when you are on an icy surface and have the AWD lock enabled your best to put the Murano in "L" gear so the wheels doing spin. Anyone with skid control experience would say the same. :)
nice nice thats a good car u will love it my uncle has an xterra and whenever o go on snowboarding trips and such i always borrow his car just for fun even tho my ml320 or a4 could do it just as well in bad conditions
Gently pump the gas pedal. The wheels should never stop spinning, only slow down and speed up, with practice, you can feel when to get the best grip to move along.
Murano is good car because it offers a lot of nice features for little money. like heated steering wheel, heated seats, usb port for media playback, etc. i have a 2012 Murano SL AWD. i like it but i do have some issues with it. one HUGE problem with the Murano is that the headlights are extremely weak. very hard to see the road at night. another issue (with the newer models) is side mirror visibility. the cars awkward shape makes things to your side hard to see. aside from that, great car
Your headlights are probably fogged up because UV light breaks down the coating on those plastic polycarbonate lenses, and it kills the brightness. I periodically polish mine off and put some clear UV coating on them. It only lasts a year or so before I have to do it again, but it only takes about 20 minutes and beats spending $$$ for all new headlight assemblies. They are blindingly bright when they are clear and unfogged.
Maybe the Murano isn't the best vehicle for the situation...BUT, who wants to be seen in a Suburu...or any other comparable vehicle for that matter... Great car.
ohh ive driven a subaru their awd system is great because the engine is vertically mounted. Btw i drive a audi a4 with quattro awd. But on any car that offers awd and u see the engine is horizontally mounted u kno the awd system is gonna be shit because the rwd only kicks in when the front wheels lose grip and sometimes it dosent work. Plus what most people dont understand is that there is a torque split between the wheels that make all the difference.
@krenkey actually, it was a test of traction - those look like All-Season tires where snows or winter tires owuld do better, I imagine. And yes, A Subi could tow that much weight, too.
I really want to buy a Murano but I don't know if it can't go through the bad bad snow I get here in pa can any of you guys with one and bad snowy areas tell me how your Murano does all year around but in the snow the most? please and thank you all.
I own a 2006. It is excellent in snow. The automatic all wheel drive works well, and in serious situations, you can lock it in permanent 4WD mode (must stay under 20 mph or it disengages). I drove it in harsh central PA winters. It did great.
This is proof that the 2017 and newer can tow more than 1500 lbs. I believe the engine and cvt has not changed in horsepower or torque. But yet tow way less?
Tires. I do not understand why people who do offroading or live in elements like this still have street tires. Yes, it is AWD. And yes, it helps to have all terrain tires in mud and ice.
is it me or do the wheels looks i dunno like cg or fake when there spinning i dunno its just looks like a video game or something, i dunno. Very cool vid the murano is a beast
Dont drive straight, just drive zig zag way to get more clutch on the slippery surface...it was very dangerous, the car could be pulled into the water...
BTW it was a very risky idea couse when you climbed a little bit you could loose the traction and thn you could lose your boat and your car in that lake.
@BranfIakes i doubt any other comparable car.suv would have better luck with same tires. as you can see its so slippery car slides down by itself. i'm not dissing suby, they have probably the best AWD system out there, just saying that this particular situation is crappy lol
How one properly does this is with a man on each side of the tongue and lift and quickly walk sideways with the car. also laying boards down with nails protruding into the ice providing traction.
+Simon G. it was a test of how the AWD system handles and operates in the conditions....I knew how to get out I wanted to see if the vehicle was smart enough.
+mike Brisson I dont think smarts can play a roll here, the system does switch to all wheel drive automatically, but no vehicle is going to pull a trailer with loaded boat through 3-4 feet of water over ice, you have no traction, getting out was pure luck, had the grade been steeper, getting out, impossible.lol
