This is a scene from the second of Margaret Rutherford's four films as Miss Marple. She's very different from the Jane Marple from Agatha Christie's books!

Maybe not the best portrayal of Miss Marple as Agatha Christie wrote her, but certainly the most entertaining and memorable. Also, of course, we have that wonderful theme tune composed by the amazing Ron Goodwin.

A box set.is available from Warner I have it myself ..She plays Marple.like she's having a marvellous time in the part and bless her for including her husband in real life and actor Stringer Davis in her film contracts he was devoted to her and had only a fraction of her acting ability
Me too. Iv watched these each of the set of her 4 miss maple movies at least 40 times each over the last 40 years. She’s like the grandmother I always wanted and never had. I have tried to live my life by her example and be broad minded and adventurous.
So true for me too! (also: We knew there was crime - and it would be solved - but we did not have to see all the gore they are putting in movies nowadays...for kids definitely always the best kind of 'crime movie')
@@susannecoolkidsgerman7989 Absolutely, I agree , I think all the old movies even suspense drama carried a touch of class. It give us the watcher including the kids the ability to evaluate character and even change the character somewhat in their mind, utilising the imagination so you may watch them over and over. The fascination of the human condition. No need for the action movie . Best regards
Margaret Rutherford is great....but she's nothing like Miss Marple as written by Christie. The best and most faithful Marple is Joan Hickson in the classic BBC series.
She suffered from a deep depression that never left her, her early childhood was traumatic. Her dad killed his father, served 5 years, later moved his family to India where her pregnant mother hung herself from a tree. Luckily for Margaret; she was sent back to England to live with her loving aunt. As an adult she would go away a few times a year. Some say to a psychiatric hospital but she always had her doting, devoted husband.
At that time we had lots of Aussie actors coming over to the Mother Country...!! Bill Kerr. Peter Finch. Leo McKern....etc Sadly the ties which existed then are almost gone now . !!
Can you please tell me how you were able to upload this clip? I've made a 12 minute video of all her scenes in "The VIPs," and RU-vid keeps blocking it. I really don't see any difference between the thousands of film clips on YT and my video.
