The third of MGM's Miss Marple films starring Margaret Rutherford. This time, Miss Marple treads the boards in a reworking of 1952's Poirot novel, "Mrs. McGinty's Dead". "Murder Most Foul" was a name Christie disliked, calling it "a rotten title".
Among the cast are Ron Moody (Fagin in Carol Reed's "Oliver!") and Francesca Annis, who would go on to star in further Christie adaptations including: "Why Didn't They Ask Evans?", "The Secret Adversary" and its follow-up series "Partners In Crime", and another [Miss] Marple: At Bertram's Hotel with Geraldine McEwan.
Curiously, this film was released after it's follow-up "Murder Ahoy!" in America - the sequence, however, is defined at the end of this film is which Inspector Craddock promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector, a position he holds throughout the subsequent film.

I saw these Miss Marple movies a few years ago on TV and enjoyed them quite a bit.

"Madam, either you will have to cease knitting... or I will have to cease judging." What a cracking one-liner from judge Andrew 'Dr Cameron' Cruickshank, with the pause perfectly timed! Margaret Rutherford's films were priceless, and I particularly like the theme music which informs us that what follows should not be taken too seriously! How I love old trailers. They really don't know how to make decent ones nowadays, often too long and giving away too much of the plot. They sometimes have the opposite effect on me - lousy trailer, so the cinema loses out on my admission fee. Invest in a pizza instead!

Computer generated images showing Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple fighting defense attorney Donna Emmitt ("L&O:SVU") as played Viola Davis would be the fight scene of all fight scenes in theatres.

I'm so confused by this. The genre is adaptation/thriller, but the trailer makes it feel almost like a comedy. Is that just because of the time period?

Finn Devlin It was released in may 1965, It’s only made in 1964. There were troubles with right and So on. That’s the reason why it was her last Marple movie!

Finn Devlin More exciting is the fact that in 1965 a fifth Miss Marple was plannen, Murder at the vicarage. There are lost materials of it, very mysterious. With most films the year that’s mentioned is the year that it was made, but most of the time the movie is in cinema the year after. Even in 2020 this is the case in these fast times.
