Im 68 and grew up learning about the great Pioneers that stretched this country out further and further on guts , blood and determination .. We owe a big debt to these men ,, a caliber of man that just doesn't exist anymore .. It's truly a shame that most children of today don't even know who these men and women were , thanks to the whacko school systems of today .. I told story after story to my twin boys , I taught them bushcraft skills at a young age , by 10 yrs old they could fire & break down and clean every weapon I own { and that's alot of guns } ,, I and my sons have a deep love for this USA of ours , and they are 38 now and teaching the same to their own children .. We must NEVER let our true history die , not ever ! God Bless you Sir for all your efforts , you are a true Patriot !! Sincerely ,, Jeff Warren

I love this country, too, and I hate that it appears stupid people in the GP are taking over the country through "social" media or networks and music. You are right: history, accurate history, should be kept intact. However, what you call "...on guts, blood and determination..." can easily be translated as rape, murder and racism.
@jeffwarren6906
@jeffwarren6906 3 года назад
@@markuse3472 - I see no translation of " guts , blood , and determination " into " rape , murder , and racism " in the context of my remarks ,, especially when my words were directed towards the type of Pioneers named and shown in this video ,, the men who went into uncharted areas , which led to the founding of the original settlements that in turn led eventually to an expanded America .. There has been " rape , murder , and racism " in every generation throughout mankinds spread across the world , just as we deal with it today .. And although these crimes no doubt took place in the time of this video ,, in no way can I easily translate the courage of this particular set of men in this historical period as rapists , murderers and racists .. Again , did these crimes happen during this time period ? , yes , no doubt in my mind they did .. Was the great majority of the Daniel Boone types guilty of these crimes ? no , not in my mind .. I was speaking of courage and bravery that's attached to their kind ,, the rape , murder and racism in any generation is done by sick , perverted , psychotic people lacking any morality , they display no courage or bravery in my eyes .. Thanks for the reply Markus , I enjoy the exchange of opinions ..

Some of it was taught to us as younger school children { but some wasn't } .. I was lucky enough to have parents that made sure I learned what wasn't taught .. All in all though , we did learn alot of what is shown here .. Maybe back in our day , State educational systems were more independent of eachother and must of had more freedom to teach what was important to them to teach ,, things they believed were vital for us to know .. I do believe that the education offered to me was far better than what are youth receive today ... Thank you for your reply Frances , have a wonderful day ..

@@wadesgirl8271 Where did you all go to school? We were taught all aspects of American history, including Boone. We had to write a little essay on Sam Austin and the Alamo, and we're deep northerners. If I think about it, it may be precisely because we have a lot of early history here too. We still to this day live amongst native first peoples. My great grandmother was a secretary at her local DAR, and her ancestors are members on the role of Mayflower families. At any rate, I think you're not doing educators a favor, or giving them the respect they deserve, by belittling the important job they do. And only those who have stopped learning wax nostalgic for a time before, that is thought of as superior to the present, for instance. I hear people talk that music, and movie making is lousy now, which is not the truth at all. One is never so old as when they begin to stop learning, and pine for some former era, that they believe was superior. Rife with hubris.

Those people were tougher than woodpecker lips, both mentally and physically. I’m sure losing a loved one affected them then in a lot of the same ways as today, but death was no stranger to them, nor was blood and gore. I believe they got on with life knowing today or tomorrow could be their last, and they just accepted it. I’m sure the mutilation of a loved one made it tougher but that was risk they all accepted and took. We in our time find that hard to accept, and we can distance ourselves that kind of life and death usually, but those people had to live with it so it was just a way of life they chose to live. The day may be coming that we find ourselves in similar conditions, the way our world is going. I hope I’m up to it if it comes...........

I'm related to the Dishman's and know that Mahala Boone married John W. Dishman. Kizzie also married into the Dishman's and it is an ongoing debate on whether she was a Cherokee Indian or not. My great grandmother Daisy wore Cherokee clothing most of the time from what my mother says. The Cherokee's were very divided back then, but when The Great Eagle was killed by a white man, is what sent Doublehead on a rampage killing spree at the time to grieve his father's death. My mother is Sandra Hayes and they were very well known in Kentucky. I find it sad to see how many of the Boone's family ended... very unnecessary! So glad to see some people related survived!

Great video! What a beautiful place. My dad grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio which is on the banks of the Ohio river. As a boy, he and his friends wondered the cliffs and he once found an old tree in which was inscribed "D Boone Killed a bar here". As someone who is fascinated with colonial history, I think it is easy to romanticize that era. One must consider that to the men and women of the frontier, every day was work to survive. It was not uncommon for the parents of a new born to not name the infant for a year, to see if the baby survived it''s first year. Sickness and injury that today can be easily treated, could very well kill a person then. The men and women of the 18th century were truly a different breed.

It has been said that Ned was the actual father of Jemima Boone. When Daniel failed to return from one of his long hunts after 2 years, Rebecca assumed him dead and took up with Ned "because you both look so much alike," she said. When he finally came back, she was carrying Jemima, and Daniel raised her as his own. Of all of Daniel's children, Jemima was probably the most faithful to him all through his life, and was at his side when he passed, and he wasn't even her "real" father, but she knew no other. Family was very important to the early pioneers. When Daniel and Rebecca were married, they started out taking in 2 children not their own but of some relation, who had been orphaned by the Indians.

It is recorded of how "The Great Eagle" died and that Doublehead going on a rampage killing every white man possible from then on as revenge. Doublehead ate some of his victims and was one of the most fearsome warriors, but he also sold land without permission of the tribal leaders. Kizzie married into the Dishman's and it was said that she was related directly by blood to the Cherokee Indian's, but there is not a lot of proof out there. Kizzie was from North Carolina and not much is known about her from what I have tried to find out! After hearing what happened to the Boone family I felt saddened that the Cherokee's attacked them, because this was not typical as many were at peace at one time with the Cherokee Indians. The Great Eagle was the Chief of the Cherokee Nation at that time and when he got killed I can imagine the pain that his kids felt... Doublehead being one of them became revengeful after that. The Boone's made good friends with the Cherokee Indian's originally and Mahala Boone married into the Dishman family who were very close to the Cherokee's at the time. It was after the Great Eagle was murdered by a white man, that Doublehead went on his rampage and nearly anyone that was white became a target. The Boone's were really a good family, well known for hunting and good relations, just like Davey Crocket was! In fact, Davey Crocket was against the government taking the Cherokee lands and sending them on the trail of tears, which infuriated the Indian's even more! Please note that the Cherokee's were originally from North Carolina, South Carolina, and into Georgia, but where driven into Tennessee and Kentucky over time to escape oppression from the government(s)! The Cherokee's were divided in so many ways on whether to fight back and when "The Great Eagle" was murdered is what broke the straw on the camel's back, sending Doublehead (his son) on a rampage!

I responded to one of your awesome videos about the burial place of Daniel and Rebecca Boone. I am responding to your comment. First, let me say, that I love your videos. I am a retired historian and have done much research on the Boone family. Now, people in Kentucky firmly believe that Daniel and Rebecca are buried on a hilltop in Frankfort, KY. However, I know there is a big mystery about whether or not this is true. Their graves in Missouri were not well marked and it could be that their remains are still in Missouri. My youngest son is related to President Abraham Lincoln whose family is from Kentucky and from my research I found that the Lincolns and the Boone's are related by marriage. I live in Missouri not far from Nathan Boone's home ( Daniel Boone's son) where Daniel died and was buried somewhere nearby. From my understanding whomever came to take Daniel's body back to Kentucky had dug up the wrong grave and actually took the wrong body! Daniel Boone was an ancestor of mine. Unfortunately it wasn’t the famous Daniel Boone, as he lived in Suffolk UK. He was quite a remarkable man, but in his own way. I enjoy watching these videos, even though I don’t have (I think) any American ancestors. And I am interested in American history, because I like the contrast between the lives of those that emigrated and those that stayed behind. Those that did stay behind tended to die more conventional deaths. Shawnee ambushes and a subsequent chewing by Wildcats weren’t considered much of a threat in 1780s Suffolk.

No electric lights, or central heating, or grocery chains, or cars, I could go on. Just tough determined people who are now degraded by outsiders we let in the country. They took their weapons to work in the fields, to get water from the pump, to cut wood for the fire, and to go to the outhouse. I do think of the impact. I also wonder if the Shawnee saw them as trespassers. I also have Cherokee blood. You would not know it to look at me, there is Irish and German blood, probably more of it. In "settling", the East Coast we wiped out the Mohicans. While teaching High School In North Carolina I had the privilege of teaching members of the Lumbee who took in survivors of the Roanoke colony. Very kind of them. Yet they were just recognized federally as a tribe. So the Boones felt they had the right to hunt down the murderers of Ned who perhaps felt they had the right to kill a trespasser. I wonder if Daniel Boone was perhaps thinking of all of the losses when he decided to stay at the Alamo. I was stationed there, at Ft Sam Houston. Got to know the history pretty well. No one knows exactly what happened but the stories are not pretty. And those that stayed were certain it would be a last stand.

There was a block where my great grandfather was concerned & my Dad always was curious about the lineage. Turns out that my Dad is a direct descendant of Daniel Boone's brother, Israel, who was excommunicated from the Quakers for marrying a Baptist girl. Their Dad took Israel's side and was excommunicated, as well. Israel & his wife both later died from TB and Daniel & Rebecca raised their kids. The Bison traced a triangle that crossed the Ohio Riiver twice keeping a buffalo grass grazing area open from too many trees for untold numbers of years until they were wipe out.
