Anna Rogers, a News Corp photographer for 30 years, gives evidence at the Senate Media Diversity Inquiry on 12 March 2021. Join our campaign for #MurdochRoyalCommission at MurdochRC.com
I'm Australian and I am sorry, it's even worse here than the USA as we have a smaller population and less media so he has even MORE power and is slowly brainwashing the population to accept lower wages and demonization of the poor while the rich get all the tax cuts and power they want , just like the USA.
Having worked for News Corp- what Ms Rogers had to say is 100% true. In fact it is more horrific than she described. News Corp had a culture of refusing pay rises and telling people their work wasn't good enough to avoid paying people what they were worth. Human Resources (HR) did not help employees but directly tried to undermine them or even get rid of them when Managers requested they do so. Permanent positions were scarce, most being employed as casuals and not being given permanent positions despite working full-time in areas for many years. Joining a union appeared to be discouraged amongst staff - I remember that quite strongly that Managers did not want their staff members- particularly casuals, to join unions and that if you did be it at your own peril. The Union reps seemed to be ineffectual and reinforce the status quo. A culture of nepotism prevailed. Sons of high profile Staff were given key positions for example.
And that my friend is the definition of fascism. Now where have i seen another fascist regime?? hmmm thats right in Germany. that one didnt work out so well.
its not a government when its not labor. it is known fact that liberals are a means for large companies to buy-in. labor is the only one who actually pushes back for human decency and government assistance. without labor, grandparents wouldn't be able to retire, you wouldn't be able to get financial loans for tuition, you wouldn't even get medicare without labor. liberals sold Telstra and privatized it. liberals caused the gold stock market crash because they tried buying themselves out of their own debt
@@johnhoward7875 how is he arrogant? The reason the majority don't agree is because the majority of people watch media who shill corrupt politicians who help the mega corps and ignore any wrong doing so they can stay in.
Dont just believe people Challenge them with facts Remember Tommy Robinson in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD? Fictional but a shining example Guilty because of an emotional testimony, despite the medical facts... He said/she said is not enough and should never be enough
Is this shot even legal ? Wtf , i personally have a pretty strong moral compass almost to a fault and every line in this statement makes me feel sick to the core. I really hope this inquiry brings all of this insane work practices , behaviours , policies and business dealings back into the realm of morality and legality , or burn the company down in the process of trying to . Because if you can’t treat the cancer you have to cut it out .
@@JohnJ469 He owns 70% of print media including all Queensland newspapers. This print media effectively set the news for the day. It's an effective monopoly, at the very least Murdoch has more power than the rest combined to set the news agenda. Functionally, fairly monopolistic overall but certainly when it comes to print. So technically you're right, but the overlooks the larger truth.
They treat staff with disrespect because they’re unashamedly disposable. How many small companies could get away with that treatment or rate of turnover with no repercussions for so long? Like Kevin said to the media at The National Press Club last week, they’re afraid to complain because they pay for it personally
This is an appalling state of affairs, the fact that this, obviously professional woman, was put through such traumatic treatment in her workplace. Thank you Anna Rogers for your courage in bringing this forward so that it can be examined fully.
It takes guts in this industry to go and put your neck on the chopping block like Ms Rogers has. I have complete respect and admiration for anyone who is prepared to risk their own means for what is right, that's the real Australian spirit, everyone deserves a fair go and Anna has rolled with the punches long enough and even in the face of that she is a completely reasonable and well measured person who only commits to information she has first hand experience with and is very clear with the reasons she has made any claims or assertions she has made towards News Corp. You couldn't ask for a more well measured witness. I wish her every success in her future career, we need more people like her in this world.
@major mofo You are pre-judge and bias Ms Rogers’ courage. If Ms Rogers is your mother, sister, first cousin do you find her credible!!! I have seen and hear similar things like what Ms Rogers said here at most workplace where I worked, but I do not have the bravery of Ms Rogers before or after. I put up and try to accumulate enough for an early retirement😊😊😊.
Thanks Anna. I am so glad you are away from that horrid culture, being more valued, enjoying better conditions and hopefully enjoying work and being appreciated and rewarded far far more.
Support💯 Royal Commission Investigation to have diversity of media in Australia. Well done Kevin Rudd for having vision for Australia. We need more ministers , senators and government officials who have the courage to do things like Kevin Rudd.
@@joezubiani1234 Was he? He got us through a global recession with basically zero impact on the economy, he passed dozens of incredibly useful bills that bolstered both living conditions and the economy, he made historic steps towards reconciliation between Aboriginal People and European Australians. He was easily one of the most successful and people-serving PMs in the history of the nation. But then again, you're clearly a Murdoch bot, because that's the lies Murdoch was spreading. I bet you think Gillard was a shit PM, too? Despite being one of, if not the, most efficient and effective Prime Ministers in the history of the office. You'd swallow a steaming hot bowl of pig diarrhoea if Murdoch said it was good for you. Pitiful.
@@joanneklimoski3832 No... you chose with your actions. more legislation is more control. This asshat gov shouldn't even have as much as it has. Drop their media. They rely on their consumers.
Im two minutes into the video and im already shocked beyond belief as to what she was saying.... How can this company still run with people like working there.... holy crap
@@apap4997 it's not about living under a rock, it's about a company still being allowed to operate with this bullshit going on. But when you're wealthy the rules don't apply to you.
Murdoch’s UK tabloids literally have soft porn to split up the sensational bullshit stories. The real tragedy is that the public actually buy this trash.
Good on you, Anna! Thanks for your service. Making the decision to speak out against your former employer, especially Murdoch is a great challenge that you’ve overcome.
@@Jane-oz7pp As you sit there shivering, rocking back and forth in your straight jacket saying : Murdoch...Murdoch...Murdoch. You haven't the slightest clue in the world. All you know is what you have been manipulated to believe. So yes, another tribal-like, gullible idiot in the world.
@Shane Brennan Dude are you actually stupid? Murdoch has direct influence over our democracy in a way that puts it at major risk. He has that same influence in England and America. His media constantly lies, downplays actual terrorism while calling a kid in a black mask standing up to racism the same thing as the cristchurch shooter, they smear any even slightly leftwing politician constantly, and they refuse to report any of the negative things the government does so long as it benefits Murdoch and his shitty pals. This isn't right v left, this is democracy v one man's attempt at subverting it.
I am so impressed with Anna's bravery, I hope she inspires others to speak out as well. Murdoch has far too much power in this country. It is quite clear to me that his media organisations, home and abroad are extremely damaging to people's lives and democracy at large. Royal Commish please; elected MP's are servants of the people of Australia and what this woman has been through is not acceptable. How about choosing to represent us and not that disgusting skin bag for once?
Whining that not all media toes your party line and that a news organisation dares to break from the leftist stranglehold and smearing them as a result......isn’t brave, it is pathetic partisanship. She should grow the fuck up.
Thank you so much, Ms Rogers, for sharing your News Corp experiences! Who's supporting her in coming up with recommendations to this senate committee?!
Are you surprised? We live under a Corporatist state. The only difference is this and actual fascism is that they haven't started the violence yet, they've already reduced our civil liberties several fold in the past 6 years.
@@9000ck ... those who knew her, say, she was a generous kind and a compassionate being... was an active supporter for many charitable organizations... very loving grandmother... toward the end of her life, truly distressed with her son's evident greed for power..
I was curious to see if this was true and found this: independentaustralia.net/business/business-display/dame-elisabeth-murdochs-shame,4823 To think such a twisted man could come from someone so generous.
4:20 What the heck? He actually told her that he'd once worked at a company that had 4 suicides as his answer to her request for helping troubled colleagues. Wtf kind of person...?
@Anthony Timmers because as she said in the hearing she struggled to find work elsewhere, she would rather put up with this behaviour and be paid than not be paid at all.
@Anthony Timmers I live in QLD and 100% of the newspapers are owned by a dickhead who doesn’t think climate change is real, despite the overwhelming scientific evidence for greenhouse gasses warming the climate. Every which way you look at it, the Murdoch media empire is peddling ignorance and legitimising uneducated opinions and is the textbook case where we should prohibit monopolies.
more like definition of laziness. If she actually did work and was successful, she wouldn't be here today talking shit. She's only here because she was made redundant, lmao.
I went into this with low expectations. But I genuinely feel sick, what a repulsive, evil, toxic organisation. EDIT: I don't know about all you folk, but this makes me angry, angry to the point that I find it hard to express how angry I am. No-one no-one deserves this.
@Saul Goodman Because she'd do prison time if anyone decided to take her up on it. You don't lie to a senatorial enquiry. But sure. Sure. She's lying...
@Saul Goodman I personally am not demanding anything, I was pointing out an error in your comment. Go back and read the comments, it seems like you're the one with the aggressively pushed agenda here.
As the old saying goes and advertising proves, sex sells. However the paycut despite her obvious qualifications is clearly an issue that needs to be investigated and someone possibly charged.
Regarding having to work on site during covid, many federal government employees were forced into the office, although their roles can be performed from home. There was zero social distancing of desks, no masks, no car parking available to them. Sad.
lnp and news corp have many similarities including ideologies and work place culture it would seem. How either of them attract people to work for, vote for or purchase there gutter level garbage is beyond me.
i was trying so hard not to laugh when it happened, i have immense respect for the topic but it was so funny seeing every little action repeat with exaggeration, unfortunate that the footage was ruined though, and also that it produces a fair amount of flickering that might be bad for photosensitive people.
@@xymaryai8283 Perhaps it was due to a glitch(not exactly fond of the word "glitch" but it'll have to do for now) in the upload. Perhaps the video should be taken down and then a fresh attempt to re-upload to see if that fixes the defect.
I have a friend who was high up in Hallmark Cards, since retired and was a lobbyist, who was rated as a secretary. That was 30 years ago. It’s practiced EVERYWHERE!!!
The fact that they'd favour discrimination as a solution to the issue of communications and media appeal, or lack thereof, over coming up with a new solution when there isn't a good one has unfortunately become unsurprising, but it stays despicable and wrong.
What *NEEDS* to be done is to *STRIP* Murdoch of *ALL* his media holdings in Australia with *absolutely no monetary compensation whatsoever* paid to Murdoch.
Apply the same rules and/or laws as in the USA, which led Murdoch to renounce Australian citizenship and take up American citizenship, to enable him to hold his media organizations in the USA.
@@RobertAmer America's "standards" are *totally non-existent!* That's how Murdoch was able to get *its* grubby paws on their print, radio and TV media in the first place!
@@RobertAmer The point I was making was that America doesn't police its rules *at all* when it comes to Murdoch. Anyone else trying to do what Murdoch did would run up against a brick wall but Murdoch was "waved through" because the extreme right-wing governments of Reagan, the Bushes(senior and junior) and the Toddler-In-Chief would've welcomed that filthy grub with open arms.
@@neilforbes416 go back to your question! What needs to be done .... That is what i have answered in response. Anything else is encompassing other issues not relevant to your question.
This is the hallmark of a country where the democratically elected government is in cahoots with a media organisation that holds a monopoly to maintain their power and push an ideological agenda - in that order.
Despicable!!! Kevin, this sort of information should be shared on more media platform. Half my friends don't even know this is happening... This is such an eye opener.
I think you might be showing constraint when you use the words toxic and sexist to describe this news Corp group. The fleas on my dog I hold in higher regards.
I am sure most of us know about the media, but don't forget other ownership. We need to make sure we don't own, read, watch or subscribe to anything that will put a coin in his pocket.
problem is 100% is controlled by that empire due to cross media ownership laws changed few years back making it worse; look at the US and the storm there.... We need local newspapers to hold power and corruption up it they see a bad story they freak ; it is immediate; the internet is fine but it is wide and far and selective... wake up we need free press and it needs to be produced locally but this mongrel organisation has skewered free speech pushing prop
Listening in to any conversation, anywhere, anytime, by any means? How can that be legal with regard to fair work policies and privacy laws in any way?
Surely there is a code of conduct regulatory body in Australia? Severe Penalties should be placed on those who administer these corporations. Those who experience this sort of shitfuckery are often scared for life as it is usually administered over years until that person either leaves for mental health reasons, is made redundant, or sadly takes their own life. It is like being in a pressure cooker on low heat. Thank you for having the courage to speak out. I went through a similar thing with DOWNER over a ten-year period. They have blood on their hands from suicides but have never been made accountable.
I hate all these comments saying shes lying because she was fired or shes just whingeing. I hope more people begin to come forward and a real change begins from this.
All these men have mother's. How would they feel if they were treated like that? They wouldn't stand for it! And if the leader of our country has no accountable then how can this country move forward? It reflects bad on all of us when our representatives are only interested in saving themselves. And the interest of the Australian public is only important if it benefits them. And if we want change it must start at the top.
She's just bitter because she got sacked. Didn't speak up while she was working there. Imagine how much damage she's personally done with her crap work at News Corp standards for how many years? Kudos for speaking up, but she was complicit for a long time too.
I mean... If they spoke up while they were employed, they probably wouldn't be employed for long. Plus, there hasn't been an opportunity like this to speak up.
@@joewinters157 well yeah, so does everyone, but she needs to take a little responsibility for what she was complicit in. This hearing isn't about whether News Corp pays it's employees' bills or not. Unethical businesses pay bills too.
Take names and threaten a personal or collective lawsuit against those who participate in this behavior. If action is taken and discrimination comes with it, take notes and plaster it all over the news, online and anywhere you can think of. You see by doing that you force the preditors at the top to come down to sort out the situation, then scapegoats will be created ie: those that participate in discriminatory practices.
Seriously! If there is NO inquiry then Australia can go to hell. This NEEDS to be addressed! Does the Prime Minister have to sign off on these inquiries ?
