This the best I have heard Southern's lower brass in a while. Technique is on point with the B-tones, Sousaphone unison is tight.Been around for a while had some battles with SU during my tenure with the Jukebox. FAMU & Southern back in the day with Dr. Isaac Gregg (Southern University) and Dr. W. P Foster (Fla A&M University). Got to give credit with Texas Southern though, they were good. Southern let's you know they are Southern. Tradition is what it is. Respect and honor to both bands. "100"

they endurance like the because the blow all the time a practice they dont never half step at practice they go hard at everything thats y they out last everybody they play and if u notice if u go to a game they get stronger and stronger as the game go on where other bands get tired....y because its how they practice and trust they will get u in shape and there band camp goes is beast!

If only some of you understood technology a bit better. Most camera's and video editing software "normalize" the recorded sound. This gives the impression that bands were "even" in terms of volume. That's why it sounds like sound cuts out when certain sections get way louder than other sections.

SU was more technical in the 5th quarter. The arrangements were very well executed. TxSU needs balanced instrumentation so that the parts can blend and deliver better. Both bands, in my opinion, are equal in talent just not instrumentation.

Damn. It was over after the first song. Straight power and runs all in that one. Well executed. I like this better than the actual song. After hearing that then listening to moves like jagger. It high schooled the hell out of txsu's sound. Not talking about volume, because SU is much bigger. Just sound quality and arrangement wise. Still like TxSU though. They have a lot of fight for that size group.

That song ("I Think Its Love") at 3:10 is about as Classic Southern as you'll find! That song would be very difficult to replicate.

The key is long tones and lip slurs. If you practice for at least a hour everyday doing that and other excercises, i guarantee u in a month you will have as u say, "IronLips"

Though may change you can always count on the S to hold it down. For as who is on top in the Swac without a doubt it's su hstate and txsu have fallen off just a little bama state does well ,I think aamu has awesome arraignments their band size will catch up oh and uapb still grooves it like nother.

Texas Southern has gotten extremely better or I should say musically good. Southern is Southern. Overall the playing field is levelling out among several HBCU music programs. I thought both bands were very good during the fifth quarter.

I like txsu but their instrumentation makes them sound thin. They need to move half of them mellos to trumpet to help thicken up the trumpet sound. Notice how SU's instrumentation is. about 40 trumpets with roughly 40 combined baritones and horns. Trumpets should have the highest number of players by a factor of 2 when compared to baritones and mellos. If not the mellos will drown out the trumpets. This has been Txsu's weakness for a couple of years now.

It was 1 of the best 0 Quarters i've seen in a long time when Southern kinna went easy on them, But 5th Quarter when Southern really opened up on them boys, lol, it was funny how confounded Txsu became.

TxSU Moves Like Jagger may notbe all that good, but with that being said, 9 baritones...........possibly the smallest brass section in this band and they still louder than the bigger sections. S/O to them and as for the other sections............clean it up and get louder. Still a good band overall.

I am in high school and I'm a junior in the band about to be section leader 2013.. I'm just wondering,, how do they play for soo longg especially the trombones?? They play a zero quarter then through the game then a whole 5th quarter at the end? I play trombone nd I'm llookin for a scholarship too and it would sure help my cause If I had all of that endurance before hand. #ironLips
