Finally somebody said it out loud. Dudes think they the reason why they big time, go behind the backs of the people that help them get there. Like Murphy said, do it all by yourself if you don’t want to share the wealth.
@stryfetc1 🧢🧢🧢 p came in the game with money so he could negotiate a better deal , the key is to not go to labels with no money and expecting them to treat u right. u need leverage when bargaining deals
He didnt tell no lies.Just listened to what he said.It was 1,700 artist signed when he was signed 20 years ago. 1,700!!! When have you listened to 1,700 artist??? And think about now. He also said thats why they sign young. Facts. Hip hop is not a young game, thats the myth the sell you hip hip has aged, its artist in there 50s making good music now.Hip-hop ans music in general is not basketball or a sport you actually get better but the narrative its a young game is so these labels only sign young kids that dont know shit. Dope interview
1700 artists!! He ain't lying I remember looking on Def Jams website back in the gap. Had a list a mile long. People I heard of people I NEVER heard of. Redman been a staple at def jam and till this day he needs a "guest pass" to enter the building..That shit real
Salute to Murphy Lee keeping it all the way 100 unlike majority of folks that will dance around the subject. I remember between middle and start of high school the South Hip Hop scene had blown up mainstream and I remember hearing on the radio so many different artist with singles coming out. Thats when I knew if the single wasnt hot, they didnt push farther. The T.Is, and T-Pains were in constant rotation but guys like Rich Boy or Dj Unk had only so much momentum. The Lables and Radio gave you the spotlight, but if you werent able to grab and keep any of the new fans that came with it you had to go back to the scene where your Core Fans were because the average listener wasnt going to hear you anymore without radio/club play. By then I had a good idea the record lables had these young dudes in rotation until they were done with them business wise.
Its called ride the wave its the process of doing business. We dont give two ishhhh about a label and the label doesn't care about the artists. Give your bread save and invest when u have to leave your situation
The caption of this clip went over alot of ppl heads.. when ppl wanna cancel hip-hop why no one go after the major labels that finance it? It's that fear fxckin with you.. ain't it? Smh lol
