Great shave and great chat today. I get that inflation is hitting everyone, that being said, some people lean on that a little too much to leverage a higher price for their product, I’ll continue support those who aren’t taking advantage of the community, while still doing what they can to keep their business viable, and thankfully it seems that quite a few artisans are doing what they can to keep prices reasonable. I agree Bill. I do understand some increases are unavoidable. Many of the artisans are handling this is a responsible and reasonable way. For those, the cost burden is shared, it's not going too far in either direction. Most of us will understand this.

@@sethcollins5536 I know that's how my beard situation is today but like I've said many times to many doubters, I've been shaving this way since before I had a beard and I had great shaves with worse products then I use today. I didn't always get great shaves but once I cracked the code on making a lather and beard mapping and light touch and proper angle, everything came together and my shaves got drastically better. I've never made excuses in the past and I still don't to this day. 😁

Bro, the degree of difficulty is not that difficult, regardless of what you shave. I shave my head, for years I shaved my entire face. I shave other body parts as well. I don't care what you're shaving, the 'so called' performance needs are largely the same. If you take the time to learn to shave, you'll be a good shaver. It's really as simple as that.

Seek great value and support great artisans, best way to go. I'd like to try the great bear, but since I'm stocked on soap there's a good chance I'll wait for the Aon version. In my opinion it's just as good as the Kodiak base. Today's shave: Hawk V3 "A" plate, Noble Otter Noir et Vanille, HC&C James Bond scent oil, Noble Otter Lonestar splash. Decided to experiment today with my soap and scent combo. Surprised and glad to say it actually came out really nice.

Great chat today, I completely agree with you. When times are this hard for folks… let’s not raise the prices higher than need be. It’s the same with restaurants at this point. I work in food services and know what the prices are. When you raise prices so high just to benefit yourself I will certainly go elsewhere. I agree Kim. The people who spend the majority of the money in Traditional Shaving or hobbyist. We don't need to, we do because we enjoy it. When things get out of hand, we'll stop. Also, it's a two way street. The artisans need us and we need them. Both sides need to recognize this. Unfortunately, a few use it as a cash grab opportunity and don't appear to have any loyalty or concern for the people who give them their hard earned money. Wack!

Yep, this is exactly what happens. The Artisans need to know that the majority of us who spend money in this hobby do not have to. We do it because we want to. They need to keep a growth mindset and always be thinking about how to attract new people. Continuing to try to get blood from a turnip is NOT THE WAY.

CDB …..FACTS! FACTS! FACTS! Another fine review you knocked it out of the park again my Brother . I just got my Vector about a week ago, ever since I have received the Vector its the only shaver I’ve used its outstanding Man money well spent. I received my Leaf yesterday going to take it for a spin tonight for a head shave, I’m waiting for my Great Bear set to come from the Razor Company. Thank You, Thank You for your candor you know I hear so much about this base is absolutely the best base, the base is important , but your technique goes hand in hand with base quality to me its all one, example Barrister and Mann to me in my opinion has always had a great base, i have never had a problem lathering it up always had a great with it, but some of there scent may not suit everyone, PAA great scents but there base not my cup of Tea in the beginning never had a problem shaving with it or lathering it, but this new base i love it . If more of our fellow water shavers took more time to improve technique they would improve their shaving experience by leaps and bounds. Well I was a bit long winded today HaHaHaHaHa this will be my first shave with Murphy and McNeil . Again enjoyed your review and conversation and pricing is getting whack on soaps …..You might have have a category called H** Naw!!!! Lol have a good one Bro

Morning Chris. I believe that a lot of shavers are not buying at this time because they have to readjust their priorities. Like myself have to ask do I need more soaps or splashes or even a razor when I have more items than I can use up for the remainder of the year. There has to be a ceiling on what people will pay. I never expect anything from a vendor but I do appreciate the ones who realize that we consumers are vital to their business. Further, we showcase their products and give them unprecedented grass roots promotion for free. Without us, there would be no them and vice versa. We need each other. For some of them it's a one way street though. I'm don't feel inclined to use these brands.

Awsome shave Brother! Very nice razor and the scent sounds intriguing! As a newer Artisan I can understand the editing of the price per oz scale that you use. As with any business inflation is a kicker, but if you keep your customers best interest at heart, I believe thats the key. In my position I dont offer a boatload of products, but I keep the focus on providing quality and value. While prices have increased, Ive actually decreased prices and in all truth am evaluting another potential price decrease.

The way out of this is to get new customers. That's what some artisans seem to miss. Continuing to squeeze the same people is not the way. You're right, eventually we'll slow down if not stop. It's a lot harder to attract new people when your prices aren't reasonable.

Tough times but others around the world are really suffering so can’t complain too much…Appreciate your message, best.

I was just talking about this with the manager of one of my favorite soap vendors. They have been not-so-slowly increasing the prices for the past 3 or 4 years. I just went down to the store to pick up their latest seasonal release last weekend, and now they've reduced the quantity as well. The latest change put them firmly in the WACK! category. I expressed some concern that they were going to price themselves out of business, and they confirmed that they have been getting those comments from quite a few fellow shavers recently, but didn't indicate any plans to make changes. I will probably continue to support them (sparingly) because their products are really good and I like to support local businesses. If they weren't local, I probably wouldn't buy from them anymore, and I told them as much. I also let them know that as a RU-vidr I could no longer justify recommending their products on the channel when there are such great alternatives at less than half the price/oz. Normally I don't get too worked up by it, I just stop buying from those artisans. This one feels more personal, though, as they're local, they used to be fairly priced, and I've been using their products for close to 7 years now. I don't want to see them go out of business, and I want to be able to afford to keep using their stuff.

I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm gonna start pushing back. I completely understand prices are going up, we can all see this. That said, the customers in a hobby cannot carry the lion share of the cost burden. It has to be shared and it has to be fair. What I'm seeing going on from some is not in the realm of fair. I've already adjusted the chart to be more reasonable, but at the same time, I'm gonna start pushing back on this. It's time we stopped rubber stamping everything these folks do. They enjoy tremendous support from us and need to understand that this should be a symbiotic relationship.

@@IAMCDB Absolutely. You'll get no arguments from me. As I said, I've already told one particular vendor that I can't in good conscience feature or recommend their soaps to my audience anymore. There's a reason why I have and use more Stirling and 345 than any other vendor. Shannon's, Murphy & McNeil, and HC&C are quickly climbing my list as well.

@@TheShavingDisciple I don't blame you. The people offering the best value need the most support right now. I can't say I won't buy a one off special thing, but I'm going to try my best to support people who need it the most. One thing I think the significant price increasers might be missings, is that they may be exacerbating their problem. So they are raising prices to try to offset increased costs, but at the same time, people are tightening their belts. The significant price increases coming at a time where people are being more selective and are buying less doesn't seem like a good long term formula.

Thank you, Steve. I always appreciate those artisans who understand this is a symbiotic relationship. They can't do it without us, and we wouldn't have the products without them. When it's too far in one direction, things get out of balance. I think every artisan needs to be aware that the people who are keeping them afloat, by and large do not need to buy more product. We buy because we enjoy, not because we need to. When they keep squeezing us, eventually we will stop buying. If they keep things reasonable, not only will we keep buying, but it's far more attractive to new traditional shavers. Right now trying to obtain the maximum amount of $$ from hobbyists is just not the right call IMO.

Want to jack up your prices outside where I think they should be? I will simply move to the next vendor or hold off on buying. I have several years worth of soaps in scents I love. That approach isn’t limited to shave gear; I look at it everywhere in my purchasing decisions. While I will not buy low quality products, and I truly appreciate that sometimes you get what you pay for, often there is a product with a good balance between value and quality. That said, I will pay more for local, organic, or vendors with community-minded or ecologically-minded programs. Purchasing decisions are a way I choose who/what to support and should reflect my values. I never want to look back in 2 years and say, “why did I buy from those guys?”

There's the term "whale" in the video game and gambling industries. They are the ones that are funding casinos and pay real money to play mobile games. The business model counts on a small percentage of whales always spending, sometimes compulsively and recklessly. The whales in this hobby are the people who have 100s of soaps and will keep buying more because it's their hobby. People who look at $25+ per tub or $50+ per set and don't bat an eye. Some (many, most?) artisans know this and count on it. BTW, I am not judging people for spending their money how they see fit. That same $25-$50 won't last long in a restaurant or bar so arguably it is better spent on something that has intrinsic value. Life is complicated. Thanks for the video!

Prices are going up and it is a tough fact of life. I think you need to consider if someone is doing this as their source of income or are they doing it on the side. The former has to be profitable, the second doesn’t. Both groups, especially the first, are important to grow the community, but I would go out on a limb that most new to the hobby are just looking for great products and solid brands.

We all agree the prices have gone up. Where the problem lies for me, is the rate of increase. This is hobby for most, we don't have to buy these products. Some artisans are choosing to take less because they know people are feeling the crunch. These are the ones who need the most help. IMO.

Mine is quite robust. On a scale of 1-10, mine would be at least a 7. The splash has even more juice and lasts a long time on me.

@@philbutler7445 It really hangs on me. That said, keep in mind people don't perceive scents the same way. Just as your taste preference and capabilities are different from others, scents are the same. I may be getting far more out of than you do on this basis. Some things that I find light, other people find to be stronger. This can and does happen. Just for the record, M&M Rates this one is Medium-Strong on their scale.
