Muscle Shoals Official Trailer #1 (2013) - Rolling Stones Movie HD
Located alongside the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals, Alabama is the unlikely breeding ground for some of America's most creative and defiant music. Under the spiritual influence of the 'Singing River' as Native Americans called it, the music of Muscle Shoals changed the world and sold millions upon millions of copies.

My 15 year old daughter and I toured the studio yesterday. We were the only two in the tour, so we got special treatment. For me, it was the realization of a life long dream. For my daughter, it was furthering her education into the history of GREAT MUSIC and her first site of the inside of a recording studio. We were MESMERIZED and HUMBLED at being in what, to us, is a sacred place. Lord, long live the MUSCLE SHOALS and FAME recording studios and such places, wherever they may be.

Was put off by the pic of Bono on Netflix. Didn't watch it for a few weeks. Just watched it. Really, really good documentary and the bonus is it had hardly any Bono in it. In fact, I dunno why he is in it. I'd definitely recommend this film to people who like music history.

Of all the amazing and beautiful moments in this film, one of the most poignant is watching Helen Keller communicate with JFK. If you can watch that footage without getting goosebumps, you're dead inside brother.

Muscle Shoals, Motown's Funk Brothers, The Wrecking Crew (L.A.)The Philly Sound (Gamble and Huff) is what music is missing. TRUE musicianship which is almost completely lost and for those young bucks that want to dispute what I am saying, you just had to be there.

In the documentary "Tom Dowd: The Language of Music", this one man, responsible for getting Atlantic Records physically up and running, the inventor of the sliding pot (now common), worker on the Manhattan Project, and idea man for the drum part in "Sunshine of Your Love" - & myriad other accomplishments, mentions getting sent to Stax to see why they weren't producing more. His reply? Amazed that they got anything out, let alone the quality, from a studio held together with gum & rubber bands!

Two points I'd like to make: 1) Soul and Blues music sounds best when it is raw, like they did in Memphis and Muscle Shoals. When Barry Gordy tried to clean it up and add orchestration, it sounded nice, but it lost its grit. 2) Music did more to bring races together in North America than any act of Congress
