@@nathanwahr7802all eras of golf are real if tiger where born in this man’s era he’d have only the same resources they did meaning he’d probably be around where they wherr
Amateur and pro didn’t carry the same status as they do now. Amateurs played for the love of the game (and often because they could afford to not make money from golf) and the pros were seen as lower classes who had to be able to make money from golf.
it's the hardest thing to try and be relaxed and leisurely, and at this point in my golf game it's by far the biggest factor in whether i make a good shot or no. the other aspects of technique are pretty locked in but this core thing is what it's all about
Yep I'm in this category too. I grip the shit out of the club like I'm trying to choke somebody then, even if I have a slow backswing, once I downswing I try to kill it. Horrible for contact
Case in point, play a round of golf with senior citizens. They have the “arthritic” swing where it’s all club head swing but they’re straight as an arrow and because of that they beat any younger person trying to hard any day.
What I learned on this video and applied it , was how his head stays back behind the ball and if you pause it at impact his chin is literally flush with his right shoulder. Flush every time. Played my best golf today 🙌
A principle that always holds true. Tempo and ease is everything in a golf swing. Speed up to your ultimate demise. There’s only one Rahm and there will be only him.
I was at the range and this guy was taking it back so fast and I told to slow down and accelerate on the way down and you hit it further and he was amazed how much further and accurate his shots were
I have try it and it work! I mean when i back swing im like mashmollow nontension i the arm and i would explose to the target and the ball has never been as much straight as this. Im a +1210 years player
I'm glad this fundamental found you Sir. All the greats of the game used very light grip pressures and they all wanted very little muscle tension in their hands, wrists and arms... Keep up the good work J
I know Jack Nicklaus' coach said to hit it hard and then focus on technique later but for me, I cannot hit it as hard as I can because of all the tension. When I rebuilt my swing I focused on one thing: tempo. Effortlessness and just relaxed muscles, more focused on efficiency and flow, because as I've always known, a relaxed muscle is an effective muscle. You don't get much more if any power advantage with tense muscles. In my view, hitting it hard is not a synonym for hitting it long.
I think it's because some people never hit it long because they never put much effort into their swing as they've always been preoccupied with not hitting wild shots as begginners. You've gotta get over that risk factor. This is espcially prevalant with modern drivers where you can half ass a swing and the ball still goes decent length. You see younging guys all the time who are ok in other aspects who dont drive nearly as long as they should because they put nothing into their swings - always going for accuracy and shape when they'd be way further up the fairway if they worried less and just went for it
It's amazing how bent his left wrist is at address. I guess that's why he has to hinge so much at the top of his swing to get the club face square at impact. Doesn't matter what the swing looks like as long as that face is square
Bobby Jones stood up very erect with his back not bent over too much. He played with the ball close to him, causing an upright swing. This created his incredible accuracy. Nicklaus copied his swing in this way.
It's easier to be accurate the more upright you are imo, also way easier to line shots up. The one thing it isn't better for is a natural shot shape so you gotta make sure you understand where you are at impact, especially on driver
Might be damn near a 100 years old but is still so on point a once in a generation master of the game and yet stopped before his. If you have never seen this footage and have any interest in golf do your due diligence and find it.
@Nathan Thomas .. It's basically impossible to compare guys from different eras but I can't argue with you. During his time he dominated as much or more than anyone before or since. Did it as an amateur with a full time job, too. Retired from competition at the age of 28. Wow.
A long time friend of mine who doesn’t play golf challenged me recently to a long drive contest at our local top golf. Winner gets dinner of choice in restaurant of choice. He thinks he’s gonna happy Gilmore me to a free dinner😆. I’ve been playing golf for over 30 years and I always slow things down when I’m not making good contact. Works every time. Now if I could only putt better🥴
Outrageous golfer estimated by some with modern equipment average drive 400!! He had to be close with Nicklaus and Woods A head to head on level playing field would be something to see!!
