I hope they'll add an option to give the choir lyrics, sometimes it doesn't really fit if they keep singing "AAAA..." xD

I agree, but I know that thats an incredibly complex task to undertake. It combines text to speech with knowledge of singing practices, MIDI usage, notation, etc. I'd be interested to hear if even premium choir libraries have got that right!

@@mccoydtromb My favourite Composers (Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix) from Two Steps From Hell create a lot of amszing orchestra pieces, and afaik they are very active in music industry, not only by writing pieces but also by contributing a lot to virtual instrument samples ( such as Strings, Choir etc. ). If I'm not mistaken, they co-founded EastWest (this is a video of Nick Phoenix showing the software for choir: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gqFO4x57xlw.html). Also, I can recommend you to listen to "That's A Wrap" by Thomas Bergersen, it was composed for demonstrating music libraries (and it's one of my favourite pieces :D )

ofc, I don't expect Musescore to do something similar, but you said you were curious how other softwares display choir. Maybe you'll like TSFH as well, they are amazing at producing music

I thought it was just me! I managed to get the tenor samples to play for a few seconds in a full score and they sound beautiful. Hope this issue gets fixed quickly.

What? Who? How? That is absolutely beautiful in the legato. You're right about the staccatissimo good instead as staccato. This is the nicest choir rendition. I'm just dumbfounded. WOW. So inspired to do some choral work.

truly unbelievable how much better the new sound library is compared to default musescore soundfont. and its truly unbelievable how much better the default musescore soundfont is compared to old musescore.

It's not just the sound library, it's the entire playback system. Tantacrul talks about it is his video about how Musescore 4 came to be.

You're right. It seems the new playback engine using the same old sound library sounds a lot better! Add musesounds and its amazing!

One problem I have with Muse Choir it is that anything below forte is a bit too quiet to use with an orchestra, then there is a huge leap from mezzo forte to forte. So I have to boost the volume to use the quieter dynamics, but then the higher dynamics become too loud. That dramatic transition from mezzo-forte to forte isn't just limited to the choir - I've also noticed it on pitched percussive instruments like the vibraphone or harp.

It seems to be a general issue with these sounds. You can only use mp if all of your other sounds are at mp or p...

There's been some talk of using some text to speech and I agree that that's not too realistic, but I wonder if a vocoder like tool could be used? I don't know how any of that works but if you could record and extract the formants of different vowels or even just from any resonator (A large echoing room? Stick it in a guitar?), could you then apply that as a filter? Could you then chop it up and assign formants to different sounds, to then be applied automatically or sort of like an envelope tool? I know nothing of sound engineering but it seems like you could record how a space affects the sounds originating from it.
@mccoydtromb
@mccoydtromb Год назад
What you're describing with a room sound is exactly what convolution reverb does - sample the sound of an impulse in a space and then essentially multiply the signal through that sample. I think that is also the basis of vocoders, so that could be possible. Would be very cool if you could record yourself talking, plug that into musescore and hear your lyrics in the choir!

The staccato notes kinda sound like they're missing round robbin. I wonder if its just a glitch keeping them from cycling through the different samples
@mccoydtromb

Could be... Or some combination of staccatissimo with legato.

New to Musescore here. Came from Finale way back where I can completely manipulate the sound of each audio and I appreciate that I can temporarily make the choir sound as dry as I can so that I can hear each note almost like a sharp instrument so that when I review, I can hear notes clearly. I'm currently arranging a pop song so we're not really going to produce this legato sound. I'm having a hard time understanding what I've arranged so far because each note is getting mushed to each other. Do you know if there's a way to make the sound crisp at least for reviewing?

Opening the mixer and disabling the reverb send (coloured reverb button on the vocal channel strip) will help, but these sounds are definitely designed for legato choir. Adding staccato could help in some circumstances because it moves away from the default legato sound (especially in quicker moving notes). Otherwise try the ms basic vocal sounds instead of musesounds choir, or a 3rd party VST plugin. Hope this helps
