This brings back so many memories. My father, an electrician from Philadelphia, was sent up to Corning NY to work at the museum. He took the whole family and we were there for about 6 weeks. I remember touring the museum when it opened. I was 7.

That's my mom, the fiesty librarian! Virtually all able-bodied children of the museum staff were impressed into helping with the massive clean-up effort, and it seemed like weeks before we made any real progress. My duties ranged from major demucking of books to individually cleaning and cataloging thousands of 35mm slides. Virginia Wright's 40th birthday was June 24, the day after the flood, and she and my father are celebrating her 80th today.

I saw a post on Facebook... Reading about your mom and her accomplishments is what linked me here. She was just an incredible woman. All the things she did like the helping in the restoration from the flood made me think.. I've seen her before! In this video. Virginia's part was honestly what made me cry. My sincere condolences to you and your family

@@BWTHHYBL.TITSOAK Thank you for your thoughts. Jinny loved her work at CMOG, and viewing this video still makes me smile. There is another in which my father, Jerry, does a talk on borosilicate glass, and it does me good to know that they are both preserved(?) here on RU-vid.

We lived in the hills between Campbell and Savona so we only had rain. My youngest brother was born June 22, 1972 in Corning hospital. The next day they were sent home to make room for Flood victims. My Dad was the town superintendent of Thurston so he was very busy with the clean up.

Well done - thanks for sharing the story of the Corning Glass Museum's recovery after the Flood of '72. My family moved there years after the flood, and still lives there now, and we've heard about the flood and its aftermath from many who lived through it.

I lived through the Hurricane Agnes storm June of 72. I was across the border in Pennsylvania it was devastating here also. The storm of 2011 September was just as bad in certain areas of Pennsylvania. Anyone who has been through a flood will never ever forget it . Thanks for the video.

Very interesting video. Does anyone know what happened to the Pyrex Bridge shown in 2:43? Was it repurposed into the expanded museum?

At the very least - glass that's not broken can be washed off and look as good as new, or at least as it looked before it got wet.

This tells me if you are a museum person argue about locking down your displays in case of flood!
