Mushoku Tensei Has Finally Gotten Better, But is It Redemption?

Hello comrades! Mushoku Tensei is an anime I really struggled to watch, mainly because of the main character. Not because he was a degenerate or written to be bad, no, it's because he was badly written. Everytime there was some progress with him, the next episode reverted all the changes and we were back to his original persona. But, that all changed when he arrived to Ranoa Magic Academy, turning a mediocre story into a really good one. Hope you find my take on wether "Mushoku Tensei Has Finally Gotten Better, But is It Enough" fun and/or entertaining!
Thanks for watching, YOU ARE AWESOME!

Bro has never heard of relapses. Character development doesn't happen overnight, and even if growth seems to happen, it doesn't mean it's set in stone. Flawed characters is not bad writing. It's just your inability to tolerate a protagonist with deeply-rooted flaws.

Just to add to your comment. It is 100% ok to not like the show because you find characters in it disgusting, creepy or anything else. But if you don't personally find that interesting to watch does not make the writing bad. I think it is very clear a lot of people think the writing is very good.

To be more specific, real growth doesn't happen overnight. Character development in anime typically does happen all at once. Mushoku tensei just takes a more realistic approach to depicting growth.

How many relapses do we need? We are not talking a few days, weeks or months, we are talking YEARS of character development from his perspective. To see him act the same in ep 1 and ep 17, 12 years later, is very strange.

This guys opinion is wrong. Th whole point of the novel and the anime is that Rudeus is trying to improve upon himself with the people around him. The guy makes a point about how Rudeus has moment of development, but then is tossed away the next episode. Like people don't just change in one or couple days. its gradual. Its evident if you look at rudeus during season 1 and season 2 airing right now. I can forsure say Rudeus has changed looking at the current episode airing..

@mahistv im reading the novels he doesn't change until critical moments in his life Volume 2 ,5,6,7,11 and especially 12(just finished) U are nitpicking the show and Rudy's actions so much it's irritating. All of this is discussed in the novels with Rudy's monologues and everyone else telling him what he's doing wrong. Honestly man yeah I get that the show can't explain EVERYTHING but you're only judging stuff surface level wich is so shallow. Rudy changes all of the things in the anime are addressed in the show and the novels. If u want to say the show is shit to you then just say that. U don't need to try to sound so smart about it.

I understand that, but it's been 13 years of this character development with many people dying in front of Rudy, for him to just stand there and not help beastfolk. Especially after saving their kids with Ruijerd and seeing woman/children being slaughtered again. I've never compared him to any other MC, only to his own self, and I can confidently say that for a show that is all about character development, its sorely lacking in development of the MC (until Ranoa arc)

Rudeus is always cautious because he has NORMAL HUMAN DURABILITY; He cannot reinforce his body with magic like most fighters can and most monsters would 1 tap him. He also doesn't spam his magic eye because he doesn't want to be completely useless in a situation where he cant use it. This was mentioned right after he got it

Being fragile is fixed with not getting hit. Seeing into the future for a second or two helps with exactly that. I can understand not relying on the foresight, but not using it at all is even worse

@@mahistv The "Sword God Style" users have a literal attack which consists of cutting at the speed of light. It doesn't matter if Rudeus can see into the future if he can't react fast enough. You might know they are gonna shoot, but you aren't faster than the bullets, so you're dying either way.

Dude you know literally nothing of mushoku tensei. 1) He has a large mana pool but can't use battle aura which means his body has no protection and will be one shotted by any swordsman 2) He can see only at most under 2 seconds in the future yet the further he looks the more blurred it is, and also enemies will react differently when he reacts differently so it muddles this ability 3) if you read the light novel you would see he always uses the demon eye, it's just not infinitely useful like you think 4) during the assault on the doldia village he used the demon eye from the start, it just didnt work because the north saint managed to still hit him with a feint and land a knife in him 5) Again he couldn't see through the cloud because his eye doesn't let him see infinitely toward the future 6) Unlike the shounen's you read where protag's have no concept of preserving their lives and live only for "help" and "to protect" Rudy is scared shitless of a swordsman that can one shot him, just like you would be 7) It actually takes time to cast a spell, in the time it takes him to visualize and build a spell a saint level swordsman can close the distance and cut him in half, if you read the LN you would know this from his mock duel's with Eris. 8) like a real person Rudy is also afraid of killing people so at this time he would hold back a bit too much 9) just like in real life trauma doesn't go away from getting a pep talk or doing something nice 10) Unlike other Isekai in Mushoku tensei the other characters actually matter, he has to rely on them like during the fight at the doldia village, without someone to occupy the swordsman Rudy can't build up a strong enough spell to take them out, having someone like Eris infront of Rudy makes him much more powerful than if he is fighting by himself and this is by design. I think your just used to seeing generic shows with the standard Bell Cranel types, your clearly not ready for a show like Mushoku Tensei that deals with more realistic characters.

1) He can mitigate that with his Eye of Foresight, which he barely uses early on. 2) 2 seconds is a ton. Take professional fighters, when they predict enemy movements correctly, it's an instant GG in most cases. If they were able to know for sure what will happen next, even a second into the future, they'd become borderline undefeatable. 3) If that is true, sure. But I haven't seen him using it at all in the anime, hence my comment at the very beginning of the video - "the writing, AT LEAST IN THE ANIME, is bad, all the way till Ranoa..." 4) See point 3# 5) He doesn't need to see infinitely into the future, just 1 or 2 seconds to push people out of the way with magic like he did with Mr Cleaner. 6) If he is so scared of someone stronger than him, what about Orsted, he had zero self-preservation during that interaction? Or how about saving a girl being killed an arms-length away? You say that in order to help people you need to be some sort of hero, no, this is what normal people do when they can. No way Rudy wasn't able to handle a couple of thugs while Ruijerd was close by. 7) Watch episode 4 and see how he fought Paul while being 5 y. o. He barely needs any time to use magic to maneuver around, because that's the whole reason why silent spellcasting is so good. 8) Bullshit, when it's your life or someone else's, the adrenaline will make you forget about holding back. 9) No it doesn't, that's why I'm saying - why do you show me him "overcoming it" and then bringing it back like it never happened. 10) My point exactly. Why did he wait for Mr Cleaner to deal with the strongest warrior in the village and only then engage? If he had his eye turned on, he would have seen an opening or would have been able to save Gyes, increasing his chances to win. And speaking of realistic characters. Take my comment about Rudy's ability to talk to people. Where did he get it? From talking to his family? If he was such a shut-in, there is no way he'd develop that level of communication skills, let alone the ability to read the room as he did when he was little. And if he did acquire these skills, how can he NOT understand that he should mind his own business instead of talking to Orsted? Another "realistic" thing is his inability to learn life lessons. I'm sorry, but when a 50 year old still doesn't grasp that licking panties in public while they are on your head leads to dire consequences, that's not realistic, that's insane. People keep blaming Subaru for not realizing what's going on sooner or acting all weird. Yet they praise Rudy's character for the same thing?

1:30 He changes. What point are you trying to make? That he put panties on his face to hide himself, so he is back to his old self? He is a pervert, but controlling his emotions. 1:50 Because he doesnt care about saving ppl he dont even know. Earlier it happened because he was stopping Ruijerd from saving them. Here trying to save them could result in his death. 2:30 Youve completely missed how the eye works them eh? He can see 3 - 5 seconds in future, pot falling happened in those 3 - 5 seconds. Dragon happened way after that. And regarding why he doesnt use it that much, he learnt that thats not a useful skill, as he sees what actions one would take in the fight. Its useful against Eris, as she used to go for ill do A, Ill do B. Not against veterans who are like if Opponent does A, Ill do B, otherwise Ill do C. With Rudeus unable to handle this various attack patterns. Yes he is a mage with large mana capacity, but is a glass canon. His attacks can easily be deflected (you see in the kidnapping, 3 fireballs, gone like they were nothing). 3:00 No name mobs are not scaring him, he has lost his will to live by that point... 3:30 You should have more media literacy friend. If you are depressed and try to find a goal to move on, you dont automatically become not depressed. Ep 23 was not Im ready, ep 23 was I have to go on 3:50 He doesnt rediacover joy of battle, but wanting to live on 4:00 you lived on demon continent with a legendary superd warrior. Here he doesnt have it There they were going on journey, fighting against monster who happened to be in their way, here they are entering dragon's nest. 5:17 explained well in LN, sadly anime kinda ruined it. Sara was looking for him as dhe thought Soldat was going to torture him. 7:30 and Rudeus was horny at the time, and was petting the dog. He was horny as he has seen multiple naked beastgirls. But to beastfolk it would appear he was sexually harrassing their guardian beast. They had kept Rudeus in a cell for interrogation, but the team who went to Ruijerd were caught in their own trouble (I think Eris mentions it in anime). 7:40 because... there can be multiple entrances and exits. Ruijerd and team left through "back entrance" while beastfolk went through front entrance. And beastfolk split into 2 teams, one escorted Guardian beast and captured Rudeus, while other went for the kids. 8:07 He did that. They ignored him. 8:26 While anime cut out why he said that, hes met someone for the first time who knows about Man God, so thought hey I can learn more about this guy. He had no idea that this person considered Man God his mortal enemy. He sees a person who seems knowledgable about stuff, is confused as to how the person knows about his allies, even though the allies havent meet them, and wanted more info. 10:00 I think you are confusing Rudeus who had no will to live and Rudeus who was caught by suprise attack from dragons with Rudeus who is now in a much better mental state and his opponents arent literal family of dragons. 14:09 Well if you havent read the LN and dont know how the harem aspect was developed, obviously you would dislike it. You mentioned about Roxy, while missing why Roxy fell for him. It was not because hey Im a teacher, its something else. You mentioned moving on from Eris, when he never really moved on from her, and still had feelings for her, as they spent 6 whole years together. And their reunion was handled pretty well. You mentioned Sara, and her arc had a closure by the end of vol 13, where both parties talk it out.

the way the demon eye works is not that simple, and he does use the way this video criticises even before the university arc (most of the time), same with his struggle with depression; the characters behave very humanlike. This reading of this part of the story at face value like its a shonen does not fit a channel like this The real problem is the way sylphiette is treated, the journey to the marriage is extremely damaged by how she sees him and his true intentions being not genuine but having the same result as if they were, (to begin with the waifu issue)
@lucasvanwijngaarden670

The demon eye is a very powerful, but limited ability. Using it Rudy can see all possible futures in his line of sight, as long as he supplies it with enough mana. The two key points are: 1. He sees ALL possible futures. Meaning he needs to limit the number of futures he sees or else he can't diffentiate between them. He can do this by looking less far into the future when it becomes less predictable, such as in when fighting skilled opponents. 2. He SEES all possible futures. Meaning it doesn't help him against things he doesn't see or understand, nor against things happening outside his field of view. If his opponent is overwhelmingly stronger seeing the future won't help him win a fight. If Rudy can't make sense of what his future eye shows him it's pointless. Or if his enemy can trick him into looking the wrong way he won't see a sneak attack coming.

Better comment this time Youve completely missed multiple aspects of the show Eye of foresight - You think it sees infinitely into the future. whil yes it has ability to do so, anything beyond 5 seconds causes a lot of headache based on amount of information its processing. Its not exactly seeing the future, but more of predicting it. its not A -> B ->C. Its A ->B or C, with B -> D or E and C -> F or G. In his fight against Ruijerd (sadly cut in anime) it was explained that he saw mutliple copies of Ruijerd based on actions Ruijerd take in relation to action Rudeus takes, like if Rudeus blocks, Ruijerd would grab his arm, otherwise an uppercut. So not seeing the future, but predicting it. and he is seeing multiple of these predictions, so hard to keep track of. he is seeing them, but cant interpret them prooperly, like in Doldia, he saw that Gyes is going to howl, he interpreted it as calling for reinforcements, we found the bastard, and not that its an attack. and even after seeing the predictions, if he cant do anything regarding it, its useless. Against Orsted, all he could see were multiple images of Orsted and blood splattering off him. so couldnt do anything. he saw gallus use some attack, he had no idea what it was and was struck in the leg. He uses it almost all of the time, as a precautionary measure. But isnt foolproof. OP Mage - Yes he is incredibly skilled mage. That doesnt make him OP. his skilled attacks can easily be deflected. look at kidnapping scene, he launched 3 fireball attacks, they were deflected. "Hero" - He aint exactly a hero. He wouldnt go out of his way to save others. In Demon continent, he was preventing Ruijerd from saving them, here its different. Here someone is being attacked, and aiding them would risk his life. Keep in mind, the ones being attacked had mistreated him, dumped him in a cell, was stripped naked and humiliated. He wouldnt risk his life to save them. Only one he was willing to risk his life for was Eris. In confrontation with Gallus, a North Saint, he was willing to let him go with the kidnapped children as it wasnt worth risking his life. only reason he intervened was because the beastfolk dog attacked, and Gallus interpreted it as Rudeus is now going to attack him Beastfolk village - He tried convincing them, they were unwilling to listen. Beastfolk split into 2 groups, one escorting the dog and capturing Rudeus, and other going for the kids (I wonder how you missed that, it was pretty clear). They sensed Rudeus is horny (he was as he just saw multiple naked beastfolks), and is cuddling their revered beast, and came to conclusion that he was sexually assaulting the dog, which is a serious crime, doesnt matter if he is a smuggler or not. Rudeus might not be a hero, but Ruijerd is. He wouldve been pissed if Rudeus didnt allow him to save the children. Depression - Id suggest you look a bit more into this topic. Ppl dont move on from derpression like a flick of the switch. give them pep talk, and they are fine. ep 23 was just him giving himself pep talk to move forward, but that doesnt mean he is no longer depressed. Fighting against bear - Dude had no intention to leave, and thus didnt bother to do much. He was motivated by seeing others doing their best to survive, and realizing it does matter if he dies, that he is not alone. Fighting against "lizards" - They were not just some random lizards. They were S rank Frostwyrms. you were comparing demon continent with them. While forgeetting that they were travelling to go home in demon continent, not going to nests of dragons. Sara - Yeah anime cutting her POV ruined that scene. Sara was looking for Rudeus as she feared she was being torutred by Soldat. and they had their closure in vol 13 (about 6 volumes later) Orsted - You see a personwho seems knowledgable (knows about your friends and stuff, even though your friends doesnt know him), so you ask him questions expecting that he would have answers to everything. you have no idea that he considers ManGod as a mortal enemy. he was the one who brought out topic of Man God, you you interpret it as he being someone like you, someone whom ManGod is communicating with. Fight against Linia and Pursuena - he has faced against Beastfolks before, and has idea about their fighting style from Zanoba, so knows how to deal with it. Now coming to wiki reader section, you are judging the parts without evven knowing the context behind it. You know Roxy married Rudeus, while not even knowing how that relation unfolded, and assuming its because a teacher loved their student very much, which wasnt the case at all. Rudeus, even after marriage, still had feelings for Eris. He spent 6 whole years with her, went on dates and stuff like that. the whole reason he was suffering during early S2 was because he was unable to move on. even after marriage, he would still think fondly of his time with her. and he later realizes it as all a misunderstanding on his part. their reunion was hanndled pretty well. He wasnt romantically interested in Sara, and was just using her to get over his heartbreak, why would he go after her?

Foresight - my problem is not how it works. It's how he uses it , which he doean't in half the situations. There is never a bad moment to use it for a bit, just to see what's coming. If he saw a clay pot falling from the sky (which is not very predictable), he can see that the floor beneath him is about to be moved. "He uses it almost all of the time" maybe in the light novel, not in the anime. He is OP. Maybe lacking in RAW power to take on Orsted at this time, but he has a kit to dominate most opponents. What other character has an eye of foresight, silent spellcasting and Laplace factor? I never called him a hero. My problem is that he goes to save Ruijerd (a guy who is all about saving kids), sees a child brutally killed and dares to tell him "of course we are saving them". His actions don't match his words, nor what he learned so far How did the beastfolk not catch up with Ruijerd 5 minutes after they split? He wasn't sprinting fullspeed to safety with 5 kids in tow, so what took them so long? OK, I can accept how they interpreted the scene, but again, if you as police capture a wierdo on the street for some crime, would you not listen to what he has to say about missing children you are investigating? I'd love to see the face of the parents of the rescued children when they would have learned that thanks to his captors being so shortsighted, the kids could have been found earlier. Fighting with the bears. I don't get what you are saying. Rudy gave up and said "it's too late now, we are dead" then proceeded to wipe the bears no problem. Again, you misunderstand what my issue is, it's the fact that Rudy was show to grow from this experience and he didn't (as seen in the next episode) Lizards, S rank? I have a hard time believing that, because their party didn't seem strong enough to handle this level of difficulty. Soldat was one-shotting them, while struggling against a Red Dragon. Something doesn't add up. Sarah situation. OK, that makes it a bit better, but there is still no reason for Rudy to run his mouth like that nor for Soldat not to stop him. You are missing one VERY important thing about Orsted. Everithyng about him screams "mind your own business", and since Rudy was all about being safe, not playing a hero, it's very abnormal for him to engage with him, after seeing what his presence did to Eris, Ruijerd and a poor ox. Fight with girls - my point exactly, we finally see him putting his life experience to use. I agree that I haven't seen the process fully, but as I said - it goes against my interpretation of the show so far and what values it was proposing. I simply don't like this development, regardless of the process. As for not going after Sara, well, they spend a while together and they had a bond of some kind (especially after saving her). It's only natural to clear things up a bit, considering he poured his soul to Soldat just now, who he wasn't even in touch with up until today.

@@mahistv He uses it all the time. We see it in anime as well during all major fights, against Gallus fight, against Paul,, against Orsted. you are stating if he can see the pot in front of him, he should be able to see ground beneath him disappearing, but thats the drawback of eye of foresight as ground beneath him isnt in his vision. or he cant see past the cloud of snow.. Yeah predicting was the wrong word. its more like he doesnt see one definite future but multiple possible futures ( I have no idea why I thought predicting was the right word, sorry about that) Sadly he is not OP. yes, he has those skills (Sylphie has two of them) but useless against enemies who can easily deflect magic. like again, those low level thugs in kidnapping scene were able to deflect his fireballs. He is a powerful mage, but mages are not as strong as swordsman. I think you missed a few points. 1) Thier task was freeing those kids. The smuggler said that they would smuggle Ruijerd, in return they must free the smuggled goods, the kids were the goods.(Why the smuggler wanted to free the kids was cut from anime) 2) If he says anything else, that saving kids is not a priority, he knows how Ruijerd would react based on the dead adventurers. Beastfolks did catch upto Ruijerd. they got into scuffle, because of miscommunication between them as Ruijerd is a poor talker, after that they priotized going after remaining members of the smuggling ring, and bunch of stuff happened. It was stated in episode 14. They didnt need any info on the children. The patriach of the tribe found the children's scent and went after them. they already had children in their care (more so in Eris' care). Watch episode 13 again. Gyes says ill interrogate him about location, Gustav says no need, I found their scent. In Bear scene, he had given up on his life. He had no intention of living, but seeing others fight so hard for living, reignited his will to live. and with this reignited drive, he decided to give his all. This was emphasized in the ending of the episode as well, with him pep talking himself, "ofcourse it matters if you die" "even though they are far away, you are not alone". He grew from that experience. Yes, Lizards were S class. you mightve skipped it as it was stated in a rather boring argument between Soldat and the other guy, but Rudeus and gang were there for A rank quest of just collecting the scales. they werent supposed to be fighting any snow drakes, but there was a risk bunch of them might pop out. Soldat and his S rank team were hunting snow drakes in another region. the snow drakes, in an attempt to run away from them ended up running into Rudeus's team. A solo snowdrake would be weak, but in a group they are considered S rank. A group of A rank monsters can be considered as S rrank threat. And Red Dragon is far stronger than an S rank threat. Soldat didnt notice her at first, but when he noticed, he tried to stop Rudeus "Wait Quagmire! Dont say any further". Rudeus was drunk. You are missing one point. Rudeus is not feeling any of "mind your own business" aura from Orsted. Ox, Eris and Ruijerd did, not him. and Orsted also answered all his questions properly, in no way was he acting like "mind your business boy". Yes it was risky, but how likely are you to meet a person who is likely extremely knowledgable (he knows about your party members, even though they dont know him). And Rudeus also had the goal of finding his family, so asking a supposedly knowledgable person is a great way to know their location. Well to each their own. The harem aspect didnt bother me much considering how it was handled. Coming to Sara, she mightve developed feelings for him, he didnt. he didnt develop any bond with her. He didnt save her because he wanted to save her, but after thinking that Eris abandoned him, he didnt like the idea of someone abandoning one of their own and went to correct it. Publically mocking someone's body type and romantic ideas is kinda past the point of no return, so it was natural for Rudeus to leave the area without wanting to patch up stuff.

the anime lacks a lot of the inner thoughts and details from the LN (excluding when rudeus himself is narrating in his old voice) which a lot of times gives context to the actions and decisions the anime just shows you outright. it's unfortunate that due to the runtime that sometimes things feel rushed/awkward. and that due to not establishing the amount of time that passes between events that it seems like people are speedrunning huge life hurdles (nanahoshi's meltdown for example). i think it's a limitation of adapting longform to shortform more than anything else

The whole depressed magician arc was made after the rest of the webnovel. Originally it was a 2 year time skip, but the author wanted to show some of the things Rudy went through and what exactly caused him to change in those 2 years. I really liked the volume for it's realistic depiction of Rudy's depression personally, but the opinion on it is very split. Most people loved it, but quite a lot of people really dislike the volume as well. The general consensus among LN readers is that the anime didn't do the volume justice. The pacing and directing wasn't good, the animation never looked worse, but worst of all. They skipped Sara's POV chapter which is pretty much the resolution of the arc. So if it felt unresolved, that's probably why.

Nah, Lightnovel reader actually love the volume. If you actually read both medium, the extra content is a bonus cake from god. The hater are coming from people who don't want to read the Light novel version. They feel vol 7 is inconsequential, But if you actually read all the 26 light novel volumes, you will see all those characters reappeared again in the story, be the catalyst for changes in different characters. etc.... The things with Sarah became one of the "irreversible mistake" Rudy did, but the story also show you can move past it, developed a healthy friendship with her, albeit changed from what could have been.

So why do we expect MCs to be good guys or at least to become good guys? This is not a story about a character changing for the better. It's about a character who wants to live a better life. And he isn't that good at it at first, so sometimes he is stuck for years. And in cases where he doesn't want to change, I wonder why he should even want to change. Especially being a pervert is part of his personality. It's not something he wants to overcome. So why do people expect that? Because they view being a pervert as a bad thing, and he's the MC and should become a good person, and what I consider a good person includes not being a pervert.

It's always been good, it's just that some people are too lazy to realize this since they can't filter through the surface, really evaluating things as they are. and to make worse, the misinformation, misconceptions and mistakes that people make about the work. And I say this with complete confidence 1:00 this whole take is an example of that. First we need to go back and understand that this situation of having a new life in a fantasy world is in fact chaotic for rudeus, as his notion of reality and fantasy are in conflict. There will be times when he will be slapped for not taking something seriously and other times he will just slide. but it's not like rudeus wasn't trying, like you made the comparison that in the first ep rudeus was running with panties on his head, and after so many events there he is running with panties on his head again. but you Just ignore the fact that the contexts are different, in the first it was actually just Rudeus being degenerate, but in the second Rudeus is trying to do something good. being panties what he puts on his head is a coincidence and an artifice that would contribute to paul's character looking at rudeus and thinking that rudeus was just loafing Unfortunately this video has a lot of misleading, and I could point out all of them. But I don't think it's necessary, it's not like it's difficult to see that. Edit: also in the anime mainly in the first part of the second season some of this misleading are caused by the direction of the anime itself, so have that too.

I get your point about sometimes being misinformed, but I can't agree with your take on the panty scene. In NO context thats a good idea, and he 100% didn't do it for the sake of something better, as he specifically said "Sorry Ruijerd" and then proceeded not only put them on, but lick them from the inside. That is even more degenerate than in the first episode. Which brings me to what you said about Paul. It's exactly that, the whole point was to make his father justifiably mad, and for that, the author decided that Rudy didn't change in those 10 years and is still as bad, if not worse, as he was in the first episode.

This was a good breakdown regardless of my disagreements. I think the WN/LN helps contextualize things a lot better. As others pointed out for example, his future sight is in fact very limited because it's too powerful. He may have mastered it, but it's ultimately limited by what he can see and his own level of strength. Relapsing after confirming one's resolve is also far from unrealistic, but I can see how the presentation can be frustrating still. Your last complaint is a bit overboard though. Polygyny is far from a fantasy in real life, and it's actually a lot of work. I understand your desire if you wished there was more tension involved prior to that resolution. Mishaps and misunderstandings like this often happen with adaptations sadly. They need to compress events and can't include everything after all. This is why I enjoyed the WN way more than the anime.

I agree that I'm less informed than the novel readers, yet when I see Rudy predicting a pot dropping for the sky as soon as he got the ability and later not using it to keep his colleges save out in the wild, I start to have questions. As for relapsing, I understand it where it's possible, especially with depression and such. But when he let the chicken-dude die after doing nothing and having a few conversations with Ruijerd about it, I expect him to be more proactive and not let a beastgirl get slaughtered arms-length away, the villagers being abducted/killed, Gyes getting injured an so on. He is still standing doing nothing. How am I supposed to believe any of his progress when it can just reverse itself on a whim? And don't get me started on polygamy, only a few places in the world have it and a great majority of the population will be lucky to have one faithful life-long spouse. Its already a stretch to have a pathetic useless creepy bum turn his life around, but to have him transform into "one of the strongest people in the world with 3 wives" is a definition of a power fantasy.

@@mahistv In today's world? Sure. At this point, maintaining a stable and happy relationship is a power fantasy for many in so-called developed countries. But historically it was far more wide-spread. Especially in places that didn't prioritize monogamy in their cultures. Incidentally, his 3 wives aren't from Milis and so polygyny won't cause anywhere near the amount of drama and jealousy we might expect. Especially since all 3 of them are more or less familiar with one another and are very aware of how important each one is to Rudeus. But I assumed not many people would see it. But I was going to say that your opinion is fine. Everyone can have their own opinions. And I get what your saying. Rudy does mention this is his second chance. And absolutely regrets a lot of the things he did or did not do. But the reason it's not about redemption to me and I've seen a lot of other people agree. Is who does Rudy need to redeem himself with? At most you can argue himself or the viewers. But second chances don't mean redemption. If he was an absolute saint a beloved person in his previous life but died of cancer at 10. He would probably also be like here is my second chance at life. Now Rudy is self aware he has made mistakes. This series is absolutely about change. People can change. But change is different then redemption in a few ways. I would say an early element of this story is possible about redemption. But I think people blow it out of perspective. They see Rudy how he is and expect a Ned Flanders or something by the end. First of all I still argue it's not really about redemption at all. But if we want to try to view it that way. If you seriously ask me. By the time Rudy gets back from the Demon Continent and Rujerd leaves? Can you name anything that Rudy truly needs to improve about himself? No. Even if he were to throw panties on his head again. Who cares? That's the kind of thing I think we should appreciate about Rudy not really want him to change in the first place. It's silly and dumb. Ultimately harmless. It's the more important things that matter. Like is Rudy a kind person? Is he a good person? Does he kill, steal murder, snap at people for no good reason. Bully the innocent, use his power or fame for evil or harm etc. Do a lot of people and most of all those who know him well fear or disrespect or want him dead etc etc? NO!!! (Not yelling at you or anything.) Almost everyone in and outside of the universe like us watching. And those in the universe. Generally believe Rudy is a good person and humble. Sure he can't read the room sometimes. lol But that's also not a feature needing to be redeemed etc. He can be smart or clueless depending on the situation and plot. But I don't want to get side tracked. That does not make him bad. In fact in heart warming way that's kind of endearing. He is quite trusting and usually sees the good in others. Because Rudy knows he has made mistakes too etc. Next when it comes to improving. You may not know this? But you can usually only be about as good as your society and the people around you. Rudy is a pretty stand up person pretty early on in the series. He actually goes back downhill after Eris leaves because of depression. Even while depressed Rudy for the most part is still a great guy. The things he did for Sara and her group etc. They loved Rudy for the most part and that's when he was a broken person. So Rudy at his lowest is still able to make most people around him care and not really hurt them. We also need to realize that the true Rudy. The person we should respect and root for is very perverted. That's not a flaw the writer or Rudy really strive or want to change. It's clear pretty early on. That's just him. Be better if he kept it more to himself and he kind of does. I think from fairly early on he keeps that in check. Again at least up to the standards of his society. People kind of learn to accept and even appreciate Rudy for who he is. The pervert he is. That's part of friends and family. You don't really see Rudy's friends, family or lovers asking him to change? It's because to them Rudy does not need to change or redeem himself. You can play a game name the people in the series up to this point who dislike Rudy? Very few even if you include the LN. So it's like if he is already probably kinder and smarter than most people in the society of Mushoku Tensei. He probably has more morals then most people we meet in the series. And if no one really dislikes him? It's very difficult for me to say that he really needs to improve at all. He might be pushing himself to hard by the University Arc. Like I said I believe by the point just before Eris leaves. By that point in the series most people who interact with Rudy for a bit have pretty high impressions. The most important thing to remember for all the weirdos on twitter complaining about Rudy etc. I don't think your going that far? I've seen really weird haters. Basically want Rudy to die.. that's the only redemption they would accept. First of all nearly nothing would satisfy them. Second of all do you know how unhealthy it is to not forgive yourself and kind of accept who we/you are. That's also an element within this story. Forgiveness, self forgiveness. If you can't allow yourself to move on from a mistake then what kind of life is that. Very unhealthy. That applies to Rudy too. If hes not hurting people and is living up to at a bare minimum the social construct and morality of the world he lives in. I don't really find to many flaws in Rudy. If this were a redemption story he's already well redeemed. Again who the hell is he redeeming himself too? He seemed like a pretty great person from even early season 1. Take Eris... you saw how she was... a complete mess. Likely doomed to be a concubine and unable to ready, write and all that. Hurting or killing people who get in her way. A bratty child who honestly needed redemption more than Rudy by the time you meet her. In a few years Rudy gave her a future. Just imagine how her parents likely felt about Rudy. This boy comes along and completely changes her for the better. Gives their daughter a life. A future. If you grabbed 100 random people from our world and put them in his shoes... I would expect more than half would have failed to earn Eris's respect. Teach her about life. Not to depend on her fathers money. To do and ask for things herself etc. To learn to dance and so much more. By that point in his new life he was already doing amazing. This was when I would argue Rudy was at his absolute worst. The early Eris stuff. So you mean to tell me Rudy at his absolute worst in terms of showing off some of his most flawed traits and acting on them in some not so good ways. Was still able to cause an entire noble family to love and respect him and to give a future to a hopeless child. Yes some of the worst things Rudy has done in MT involved Eris. I don't mean sleeping with her later. I think that was actually fine. Given the circumstances it was not the best moment for it. But I do not blame either of them. However the Eris on the hay bale moment and the first scene with her in bedroom... those are pretty bad. The hay bale moment was much worse. It might be the worst act Rudy commits in the series. It's not like Rudy never does anything remotely like it again but context matters. He obviously has redeemed himself to Eris and her family for any of those actions. Within the confines of the MT world he may not have even done anything wrong. In fact Eris's father offered to tie Eris up for Rudy. That mere comment from Philip which I believe was mostly a true offer. Probably surpasses any negative thing Rudy is capable of or has done. Imagine Rudy offering Norn to be tied up for someone else. I would probably stop reading/watching. Which basically means in a sick way if Rudy wanted too he could have been an absolute sick fuck if he took Phillip up on his offer. But he takes the high route and does the right thing over and over again. And occasionally he stumbles. That's in a lot of cases life itself. Even if you want to call this about redemption I argue he has already redeemed himself. He has flaws and some of those are just how Rudy is... people smoke, gamble, drink... Have sex before marriage. One person life style is someone elses horror or blaspheme. If you can't name someone Rudy has harmed who has not either forgiven him completely or was never actually hurt in the first place? Then why do we care? In all honesty we should not care. I don't think the story is about that. If it was we would have the Eris inner mologue or point of view chapter pointing out the things that Rudy has done that have left her traumatized or what she hates about the man she loves? Or pointing out how he has changed for the better!? You don't get that in this story. When you do like when it's Norn reflecting on it etc. It's actually more about understanding how or why she was wrong or misunderstanding as a child etc. No one is saying Rudy is not perfect or can't change. But this story is not told or driven in a redemption type narrative. As for self improvement that's in many cases a life long thing. It's why we have new years resolutions and all that. It's part of will power and what I mentioned earlier about like bad habits etc. Ah... Ups and downs and learning from mistakes. Difference between like someone who likes to drink and a alcoholic etc. Someone who watches porn or is addicted to it. Okay I've ranted and rambled. I don't know if what I am trying to say is coming across or not. And it's not just be. I've seen some big reaction channels and thousands of comments of people who understand this is not a redemption story. Not if you think being perverted etc Is part of that equation. Rudy is Rudy. The plot shows you that people appreciate him the way he is. That is healthy. If they had a problem with it they could leave or tell him off. They don't because they genuinely aren't bother by it. Because it's not actually a flaw. Not to them.

Rudy only becomes so mature in the Ranaoa arc because he actually changes as a character! No hate towards Mahis btw your an incredible creator I just don’t agree with you on this one👍

Granted it is not on a level of Tolkien or other classics, but it is one of the best when it comes to light novels. You have: Characters with many motivations Foreshadowing for many important events Cool world building Detailed character study Good fights You didn't mention one of this things when talking about season 1

I didn't mention any of that (except when I said I like everything but the MC) because it wasn't the point of the video. I didn't see this phenomenal character development, on the count of it being thrown out the window every other episode, until we got to Ranoa. Take Rudy's morale. He has been through so many deep and important conversations with Ruijerd, where Rudy often had moral high ground or encouraged it (not letting him kill people for little things for example), yet when he sees a beastgirl getting brutally murdered right in front of him, making him visibly unsettled, but does nothing about it, nor is affected by it in any way. Where is this highly praised character development? He lets the chicken-dude die, then the beastgirl, then villagers, Gyes gets injured and so on, while he is standing there doing nothing. What was the point of Ruijert lashing out at him for not letting him save the guy in the forest? Why did we have Rudy processing all it? To then see it happen over and over again, aparently.

Maybe I should also "read" LotR. It probably only has around a tenth of the text to read, so I'll finish it in basically no time in comparison :) I kind of doubt it has better writing. A while ago I read the first sentence of that book in some writing forum, and people praised this sentence, and I didn't now it and thought it's just weird. I guess it tries to be more poetic. I prefer when it's more to the point, and that's what I liked about MT. Almost nothing felt unneccessary despite it's length.

I think you should either read the novels or hold off on making opinions, especially when you get into spoiler territory and speak as if you know what happens later. To me, it sounds like you just got spoiled on a couple plot points like a happy harem end and ignoring what/how it happened / everything in between now and then. Your point about forgiving Eris is completely pointless unless you haven't read turning point 4, which it seems you haven't. Roxy also isn't a huge issue, she of course helped him learn magic / get over agoraphobia but he equally teaches her / helps better herself in other ways. By the time she gets reintroduced, she's not even close to being like a parent to him.

Spoilers for Eris, Forgiveness is one of the main themes of the story. Most of the characters at some point involve it. TL;DR, She isn't forgiven until certain things go down. Eris isn't forgiven until Rudeus learns what happens to them in the future diary and when she later joins him on his rematch with Orsted. Originally, he hates her all the way up until she dies. With that in mind, it's reasonable for Rudy to forgive her. He realizes that he's partly at fault and after everything she does for him in the doom timeline and the current, he lets it go cause he still loved her.

I agree, even though I did some research afterwards on what happened, I still think this was a wrong direction to take, given that Mushoku Tensei WASN'T supposed to be an isekai harem power fantasy. Regardless of the way he got there, this ruins the message in my opinion and is fundamentally no different that any other isekai of this genre, if we don't take elaborate plot into the account.

@@mahistv TBF, it was always a harem power fantasy. All three girls are introduced in the first 2 volumes and all are foreshadowed to get together throughout. Rudy talking back to his unreasonable father and winning the argument, saint tier water mage by five, and saving the bullied childhood friend are all power fantasy in just the first volume. What it does well(and where your confusion on it not being a harem power fantasy I assume begins) is that he's one of the better written ones out there, there is plenty of world building and devotion to interesting side characters, and he isn't flawless or unbeatable. It balances the power fantasy with the actual story to the point of tricking people like you, who probably find it generic just for having a harem, into liking it. IMO, you are misinterpreting the message. Which to be fair to you, by the end of this season's arc we'll start to really get into. Forgiveness/redemption of yourself and others for past mistakes is the main point of the story. Forgiving Eris was the right move, the logical result of Rudeus's reconciliation with his past life, and only adds to it. Half of your video complained about Rudeus relapsing on his mistakes/not learning from them fast enough. It would be going backwards character development wise for him to turn his back on Eris again after everything he's learned and gone through.

Regarding Rudy's wives. Roxy instantly fell in love with him when he saved her from the Teleportation Labyrinth, while not knowing it was her former student, and then helped him get over his grief of loosing Paul. Then Eris saved Rudy from getting donuted by Orsted a second time. He then had to fall back in love with her, though admittedly it happened pretty fast. It's definitely not a cheap harem story, where he can just add new members to his harem without any issues.

Factually incorrect statement, as I made plenty videos explaining intricacies of other shows and Isekais specifically (Overlord, ReZero). As for Rudy's development "he goes up and down all the time just like a real guy would", I can't relate, because I actually learn the lessons life teaches me and those are nowhere near as extreme as what he goes through. Just think about it, he has no real experience in life, but he sees people dying in front of him, sometimes because of him, he gets involved into world-ending events and that has little effect on him? He wasn't even that affected by almost getting killed on several occasions, so if we compare him to a "real guy", why don't we say that it was pretty unrealistic?

@@mahistv for a guy in his situation, also early Rudy is pretty much an escapist douche, dude thinks he is in a videogame, he is so enveloped in this thoughts that things dont affect him nearly as much, If you want proof compare how Rudy is portrayed in season 1 and season 2, youll find that S1 Rudy is pretty much as emotional as a potato, he always is like this: 🙂 very Cynical, now S2 Rudy is way more emotional than that, he is alowing himself to feel conected to this world and its people, he becomes more emphatetic, Also one thing to note is that Rudeus as character is very weak emotionally, He is not going to be cured from depression just because he decided to comfront his problems this time, dude is depressed as fuck still, regardless of that scene. Media is meant to evoke emotions, and as long as the writing is good no emotion should be off limits. Mushoku Tensei has great writing, hence why it’s praised, if you think the writing is bad you’re straight up just biased by your uncomfortable feelings towards the themes.

My point is that I find this writing very hard to believe, because there is a big disconnect between what it tells me and how the characters actually act. Take my example with the eye of foresight. Well I want to start saying that I don't think this is a bad video, you have pointed some things that are fair to complain but I think you judged it halfway through and made it look like the story literaly had no porpouse and that the message it's trying to give is ruined even though it was just your idea of what the story was about, anyaway I suposse you now dislike the series but I would like to invite you to read the novels to get an idea about Rudeu's thoughts and all of that, apart from that I want to list some points I agree and disagree with you because even though I consider Mushoku Tensei one of my favorite series it doesn't mean it is perfect and I would like to clarify some point from your video too: I agree with: 1.- Like you said Rudeus is supposed to know a lot of spells but he uses just like 2 of them, even after the university arc he rarely uses them... I think this is somenthing even the novel readers can agree with. 2.- The eye of foresight... yeah well in the novel nobody was attacked by the dragon, and in the other cases you mentioned it's clarified in the novel too, but as an anime watcher I can understand the confusion. 3.- Rudeus talking about Hitogami in the worst time possible is something not clarified in the anime, anyway even knowing what was his real thought procces I still think It was not a good idea to try to talk even after seeing Rudwijerd so afraid of Orsted. 4.- I will mention too some problems that I consider the series have: a) Rudeus kidnapping and humiliating Linia and Pursena was a big WTF, the dude literaly was bullied and humiliated in his past life and then he literally made and exagerated response to what they did to the figure, I know he didn't think too much about it because he was furious but I still think that Rifujin shouldn't have make Rudy do that because he literally had no consecuences about it. b) Rudeus trying to kill Julie because he reflected non her, bro you were not in the same situation, you suffered but can't compare it to literal slavery. I desagree with 1.- The story is in fact about how literaly anybody, doesn't matter how messed up they are, can become a better person, and I think the problem is that you simply didn't read the genres XD, I always looked at it as a power fantasy with a really good story, anyway I think the problem was that you thought that the series would take a rout that it ended up not taking. 2.- Rudeus does indeed become a better person and the speech at the beginnig of the series about him trying his best in this new life was serious, but in this world he literally had no reason to not being a pervert, (I'm obviously not saying that it's right to be one) you complained about how, after all the things he experienced he kept being a degenerate and it wasn't justified even though he was a horrible person before but think about it, what exactly would make him not become a pervert in the story?, after the first season Rudeus makes huge advancements but they are not about stopping being a degenerate, the new culture of the world didn't help at all, look at Paul and Zenith havindg sex all the day, Sauros having sex with his maids, Philip making Eris go to Rudeus' bedroom and even after the Mana Disaster he was groping Eris, he was screwed up, and there was literaly nobody to tell him not to do something, even in the university with Linia and Pursena... he ends up becoming better in that regard after the university arc but that point in the video I think that didn't make much sense. 3.- I still think that you are making all Rudeus growth as if it doesn't matter at all... I can understand that you don't like the harem part, I don't like it that much either but it doesn't mean he's gona be living with no strugles all his life. 4.- Well, this is not as relevant as the other three because you are not aware of what happens in the series, but this moment 15:58 ... I don't know men, was that necesary? is like if I told you the Holy Kingdom Arc from Overlord was unimportant because it is unrelated to Ainz looking for his friends... I'm sorry if it was too much text but I hope you have read it, I hope that you understand what I tried to say and if not it's fine after all there's no reason to fight for something fictional. Pd: I'm sorry if there is any mistake in the writting, I'm not a native speaker... umm, this is unrelated but... are you gonna make an Overlord video after the movie?, I would like to see one, I liked your other videos a lot :D

Thank you for the insight and don't be sorry for a wall of text, we are here to talk afterall. I'm surprised I didn't pick up on some things you've mentioned and I totally agree that I had a certain vision, which ended up not being the case. BUTT. I do in fact see Rudy's development and the only issue I have is it's inconsistent speed - in the first season, there is hardly any progress given the amount of events that transpired, and in Ranoa, he looks like all of those lessons were learned all of a sudden. As for 15:58 moment, that was supposed to be sarcasm and I even showed moments that I though were the most interesting (His cellmate being an apostle of Hitogami and Pax's return/revolt/coup). It's strange you think I don't like unrelated stuff, when I specifically said "I like Mushoku Tensei more when Rudy was not in it" :) I will make an Overlord video for sure, cant wait for the Holy Kingdom.

Yes, the show ends in a power fantasy, but in my opinion, all the character motives and plot directions were very believable and satisfying. Also, the distinction you made about how Rudeus acts very immature as a child compared to as an adolescent in the latest season was exactly the point the author was trying to make. He acted as if everything around him was a dating sim and was surprised when things didn't go according to his expectations (such as being rejected by Eris despite years of grooming and not understanding why she left).

If anything the fact that Rudy goes up and down is a sign of him being written as a person, not just a simple character. People don't just have a character moment and move on completely. People are complex, and will repeatedly stumble. As for the Sara thing I'm unsure what you mean by unresolved. If you read the LN's you'd know she comes back up later to bring resolution. When it comes to the harem you get reasons for why each one ends up with him, from a narrative perspective it makes sense. Sure, you can say Rudy not being faithful to Sylphy is wrong, but that doesn't mean its bad writing.

Yes, but Rudy had gone through MANY lessons over a decade and barely changed at all. And it wasn't just a slap on the wrist, it was death, pain and misery, for a guy who spend most of his life sitting at home, each of these situations he is getting into must be world-breaking, yet he seems to be completely unaffected long-term (up to Ranoa arc). Unresolved means nothing came out of it, no life-lesson, no closure. The only reason she was there for is to get the ED arc going, which I think is strange, because there is no way Rudy of all people, didn't try to rub one out or otherwise didn't realize his situation, given that he gets aroused pretty quickly. And I did put a caption saying that "getting results 10 volumes later" doesn't count, because at that point she is irrelevant to the story. I don't like it, because it a cheap, boring way to conclude their character stories. Not to mention it ruins the message I though Mushoku Tensei is preaching.

@@mahistv I think there is something to be said for complacency though. Most of the S1 content took place over years. When we see different moments they are separated by time. Rudy can experience something tough, but go weeks, months, even years out from that and you will drop your guard. As for Sara I'd disagree, I think a major point of her existence ties in with the harem thing in that things don't always work out. As for the rest of the harem aspect its fine to like or not like it, but I don't see it as cheap. At least with Roxy her inclusion served a specific purpose tying in with Paul's actions from the start of the series. Narratively with how V12 went it just makes perfect sense. Perhaps in the case of Eris things may have gone a bit too easy, but in the end their split was a misunderstanding. They had a real bond, unlike with Sara where it'd be completely illogical if Rudy had got with her. For a harem MT has a very grounded approach to it.

Bro you're getting cooked on the comments! How many people did you piss off? Fhdjjfjfjfj In all seriousness, I think you went a little too hard on Rudy, even with the questionable decisions early on, he did have a lot of development on the first season, still, I do agree with a lot of the stuff you said SPECIALLY when it comes to the combat. I would describe mushoku tensei as a series with very great, well written moments, but with a bit of a difficulty getting from one of these moments to another. As much I enjoy this show some scenes do play out like highschool drama and sometimes Rudeus characterization changes for the plot. No story is ever going to be perfect, but it does have it's excellent moments that makes me feel it's all worth it... I haven't read the LN tho so I can't really say anything about the ending, if it's well written and makes sense sure, I can get behind he getting married to them all, but I have a feeling I'm not going to like it...

It do be like that sometimes, I signed up for this when I started a RU-vid channel, so it's not entirely unexpected. "Well written moments, but with a bit of a difficulty getting from one of these moments to another". I can't believe I didn't think of putting it like that, because it's how I feel too. However, I didn't see that much development for Rudy during the first season. Yes, he had some improvements, but the lessons learned/failed ratio is heavily in favor of "I didn't learn anything". I think we both should give Light Novel a shot

@@mahistv That's fair, I guess it just didn't bother me that much since I already went in with low expectations thinking it was just a power fantasy isekai with good animation, only for Rudy's growth to surprise me (finding out that was a main focus of the show made so happy you have no idea). I can definitely see your point tho, seeing the comments made me think you were just mindlessly trashing the show, but you articulated your problems with it very well and they are all fair points. Maybe you're right and we should give the LN a shot, but usually I prefer waiting for the anime to end to read the original material since I'm more of an anime gal. Alright, having read the comments but not watched the video I'm writing this now as a die hard fan of MT because I'm probably going to have too much to say if I watch the video then write this comment. What I want to say instead is: please give the novel a chance. It is far better than the anime, there is absolutely no reason to wait and see if the anime improves when you can go and see what you think of the source material, which is complete and already basically guaranteed to be superior than what the anime can hope to achieve (in most ways). The story of MT just works FAR better in a book format, or written medium than anime; ESPECIALLY after the childhood arc. I don't know, maybe you haven't read a book in your life, but give vol one a read; it'll take you no time. Or don't, I can't tell you what to do. Now I'll go watch the video, lol.

I wanted to see some criticism of my favorite story so here I am. And I feel like we experienced two different stories. And of course we did. I've read the books and you've watched the anime. And the books are just better. Your every point you've told gets addressed there. You have multiple characters' perspectives. You have Rudy's inner dialogue. And you don't have the scene you had in the end of season one, where Rudy stands up with determination. It doesn't happen in the novel. He stands up depressed. He goes to the north to find his death. Also the novels describe power levels better. He did survive the Demon continent. But Ruigerd was there to protect him. When he is in those caverns on the north he is against the most dangerous creatures of the world and there are dozens of them running to him. Novels just better. Read novels. I wanna hear your criticism after that.

I have a bit of a hypothesis with Mushoku Tensei. The vast, VAST majority of its major writing blunders is whenever the show wants to pull an ecchi punchline. What you mentioned about the beastfolk, they wanted to have the naked Rudy in the cell punchline. A lot of Rudy’s meaningless regressions are perverted in nature. There are ways to make him regress meaningfully (what originally happened with Roxy after… what happens at the end of S2 for example is a meaningful regression as in a moment of extreme vulnerability, he turned to Roxy). A lot of the power inconsistencies with Rudy come up because the show wants something ecchi, because he doesn’t use the demon eye, or the natural way mages work in this world. First reason’s self-explanatory, second is because constantly seeing double would be mentally exhausting (does account for some, but not all inconsistencies, to be fair) and the third reason is just that Rudy is a mage, and specifically, a mage with no battle aura. This makes him the definition of a glass cannon. So, yes, he can damage Orsted, he can damage Badigadi when he has the ability to throw his full power at them. But, one, he doesn’t have the defence or speed, or reflexes to actually go up against people with a lot of battle aura like highly skilled swordsmen in close-mid range. He can’t access battle aura, so his defence, physical strength, speed and pretty much everything that would be useful regarding it is capped at an extremely low level. And since he’s a human and not a demon like Laplace (the person he’s compared to), he doesn’t have the ability to use his godlike mana to the best of its capability. The one time where those restrictions are lifted (in the light novel skip to the next paragraph if you don’t want spoilers) with the armor he creates with Zanoba, he gives Orsted a pretty decent fight. You know, the person who ranks as god-tier in every stat? Additionally, some of the things like Sara and Rudy’s fight at the tail end of the Soldat Arc or the fact that it even happens in the first place are just stuff I disagree with. For the repeating character moments angle, there’s a hell of a difference between managing to walk outside of your room and try to make an attempt to find Zenith and being cheerful all throughout. Wake Up and Take a Step did not fix Rudy’s problem there, it allowed him to step out of his room. And the Sara thing, that’s just a pretty normal thing? From your perspective, the guy found your body that unappealing that he couldn’t get it up, then went to the pleasure district and came out drunk berating you. You aren’t going to take that well. The last thing I’ll mention is the polygamy thing. It’s not my favourite thing either, but I don’t think it’s bad writing. It’s just personal preference (although I agree that it’s the path of least resistance). What happens with Roxy is genuine character regression. What happens after it though and with Eris later is development in a different direction. The world he’s in accepts polygamy (excluding the Millie faith), he finds himself loving all three people and they consent to the polygamy themselves and are happy with it. It’s not wrong in that sense and it doesn’t spit upon Rudy’s character or Sylphie as it was never purely about Rudy’s loyalty, it was about him finding love in general. He initially translated it through our own world’s standards as that meaning only loving one person and having one wife, but he later takes it differently as just loving his wives in general. Is it something I, or you, should like? No, I personally don’t. But it’s not bad writing and it makes sense in the themes of the story, the world, and Rudy’s character. So, that’s my hypothesis. That a lot of the writing blunders are ecchi related. And, to be clear, I don’t think every aspect of it is bad. The fact that we’re watching a degenerate is part of the story and it’s important. But, in MT, it’s a lot of the times used needlessly and it takes away from everything the story’s trying to say.
@lucasvanwijngaarden670

It doesn't help that the anime doubles down on the ecchi jokes. Don't get me wrong there are even more in the novels then in the anime, but a lot of those are actual jokes instead of playing Rudy being a little creep for laughs. My most hated example of anime only ecchi joke was Rudy sniffing and licking the panties he wore to hide his face in Millishion. He didn't do that in the novel, he wore them because he didn't want his face seen by what he assumed to be a criminal organization and it's a shimoneta reference on top of that. There was no need to change things. An example of an actual joke would be when after he and Paul made up with each other, at some point Paul says to Vierra and Shierra, isn't my son impressive. And Rudy responds saying, you can't just talk about your son (occasionally used to refer to your junk, at least in Japanese) in public like that. It's a silly little joke, but it's right up Paul and Rudy's alley. Then there are some jokes that don't land because of the different medium, like in the Beastfolk village. His whole gag routine about the free apartment works better without the visuals spoiling the joke. Then there is Rudy peeping on Eris and Minetona in a barrel. In the novels Gyes walks up to him starts a whole conversation thanking him for everything he's done for the village and suddenly he ends the conversation with, now get out of that barrel I don't want you peeping on my daughter. The joke is how out of nowhere that line is in what we assumed was a perfectly normal conversation, but with the addition of visuals that part of the joke is gone and the only joke left is Rudy being a creepy little shit. Anyway if anyone read all that, thanks I guess. If you can read a rant like this do give the novels a try. It's by far the best version of the story IMO, don't read the manga though, it's a shitty adaptation.

Well, on your complaint about Rudeus character being inconsistant: real people have relapses you know. Some of those relapses can happen decades after what have been seen as a resolution. You have to compare Rudeus from one point to another to see his evolution, and thus his redemption. Your conclusion is surely based on what you have read on a wiki or something. We can clearly see you haven't read the light novels. The harem part is one of the best (maybe THE best) harem story i have seen written. Each of Rudeus wives has their own agenda and ezch of their relationship to Rudeus feel somewhat natural. And no this is not a power isekai fantasy. Heck, if not for his powerful allies, Rudeus would never have resolved the last battle. To resume your video: - You clearly don't know how humans works/feels/lives - You haven't read the part after the anime and only make assumption based on nothing.
@mahistv
@mahistv 4 месяца назад
People do have relapses, but what I'm seeing here is not a relapse, it's straight up ignoring what happened before. Take him standing doing nothing while people around him die. Chicken-dude was a genuine mistake, the rest were all calculated decisions, since he knew for the fact that his inaction costs lives. Don't let me hear "of course we will save them", "Ruijerd, you shouldn't kill people willy-nilly", other high morality talk and then show Rudy letting a beastgirl get brutally murdered in front of him and it not affecting him whatsoever. Yes, I haven't read the novels, but knowing how something happened, doesn't change the fact that I dislike the result. In my opinion, it undermines the message of the show. Also, this is totally a power fantasy as Rudy at this point is stronger than 99% of people he encountered and by the end becomes one of the strongest in the world. Don't forget that he has Laplace Factor and Eye of Foresight, which is an absolutely broken combination, in addition to everything he learned/achieved.

@@mahistv Your answer clearly indicate what I've said: you don't know how humans work. Humans can make one step in one direction then two steps back. Visibly you can't grasp that. 🤷‍♂️ Too bad because Rudeus is written with being a more realistic human then your average shonen MC. And for the rest, as i've said: you haven't read the novel and you clearly don't know how things turned out. And no, merely reading Wikipedia is not enough to grasp the essence of Mushoku Tensei. You base your opinion on something you clearly don't know. A lot a people see that your opinion is off because of your ignorance of the subject.

@@mahistv I also don't get what's the problem with Rudy ignoring the Beast girl being killed. He is just on his way to Ruijerd. If he plays hero now, this might have bad consequcences. Maybe more people would die, maybe he couldn't free Ruijerd, maybe he would die himself. Also he doesn't care if people die. He doesn't want to kill people, but it's not part of his core moral system. The reason, why Ruijerd shouldn't kill people was a more pragmatic one. He wanted to improve his reputation. That's all.

@HaruhiDream5339
@HaruhiDream5339 4 месяца назад
@mahistv maybe the term hater was a bit too much, but I stand by the rest. Incoming wall of text because it takes a bit of explaining. 1. The eye of foresight does not work like that. Rudeus can only see 2 second into the future or else the paths branch out too much. On top of that, he needs to have a clear target to use it on. There is actually a whole nother demon eye that serves the purpose of improving vision. Rudeus is almost constantly using his demon eye when he is in dangerous situations. 2. His growth. Rudeus grew tremeously, both as a person and in terms of power. The only reason it's looks like he is weak is because all of his opponents have been swordsmen. The series has made it quite clear that swordsmen are superior to mages in most situations. Mages normally can't even put up a fight in close quarters, but he manages to do so by using shockswaves and other spells to increase his movement.

You complain about things that will be explained later on but okay judge it halfway through. Hey what famous light novels have you written again?

Maybe I will one day, but as a customer can judge a steak made by a chef, I can give my opinion about this show. Maybe some things will be explained later, but for now, I see that Rudy has barely any meaningful development until Ranoa and then transforms into a completely different character, who all of a sudden, learned all those lessons.

Yeah, I never had any interest in mushuko tensei to begin with, and now I have even less. Sorry all you isekai, harem, power fantasy fans. Just not my thing.

Which is a shame, because I though Mushoku Tensei isn't one

@@mahistv I can see everyone's point about it being a story about second chances and growing, but all the other parts are such a big turnoff for me. If you want a good story about second chances that is still set in a fantasy world, Frieren would be a much better pick. This may seem like just "hopping on the bandwagon," but with a show that is so objectively good, it doesn't take much to agree with the bandwagoneers. Lol
