You should be done with your monotub prep in 20 minutes or less - all you need are some holes, a drill saw and micropore tape. This way, nothing can hurt your babies!

Helpful tip, when cutting shatter prone plastic with a hole saw run it in reverse once you have the pilot hole drilled. The friction cutting should greatly reduce the risk of cracking.

Also can put the hole saw bit on the stove to heat it up after the pilot hole is drilled. It’ll melt right through the plastic.

Unmodified gang! Simplicity is key and for me unmodified tubs seem to wok fantasticly. One of the reasons why I like using the tubs that I use is for this exact reason.. you don't have to modify it in any way. Only keep an eye and change/flip lid to give more or less FAE

If you're drilling your holes I'd recommend a drill that plugs into the wall or is a newer model with a strong lithium battery. Those old battery powered drills like in this video have an extremely slow revolution speed. You will have a much easier time preventing cracking with a fast drill that you don't have to apply any pressure to.

Once the guide bid punctures the container you can run the drill in reverse to ensure you don’t crack it. You can also look for a hole saw with smaller teeth.

I actually think that it is much easier for the home cultivator to grow in a cold and dry climate like Colorado because it is much easier to control heat/humidity by increasing it than it is to decrease it. When it is always cold and dry you have an easier baseline to work with than when it is almost always hot and humid but sometimes gets colder and less humid. You also are at a drastically higher risk of contamination in a hot/humid climate because of the much greater quantity of natural mold and fungus spores in the air.

I’m growing my first batch of mushrooms using this monotub tek. It’s been 2 weeks since I spawned to bulk and I’m only at about 40% colonised. My colonisation temperature is 20c because I live in the U.K. Is it normal that it’s taking longer than 2 weeks?
@soixantecroissants

I have carried out a few gourmet mushroom grows this year in the UK. Only started my hobby in December! Another lockdown hobby. Anyway, I've had two successful runs but I am a beginner too so everything is brand new and I can't really be sure I am doing everything right. That said the first one took 17 days from spawn to bulk before showing pins. My second one has taken a lot longer (39 days) but has just shown results. I found this odd because I used more spawn on the second run. Anyway my guess is 1: it's something to do with the mycelium just needing longer to get to the right point. 2: I increased FAE too soon. 3: It's been really cold the past few weeks where I live, but suddenly past few days it's been warmer and that may have increased the humidity / temp conditions 4: Again maybe I should have waited before the pins showed up before I introduced light and FAE. Conclusion: as long as you don't have any signs of green mould or anything nasty then it's probably not too far off

Way late response but after many trials and errors. I use smaller tubs than the giant 66qt ones. I use about 1-2.5 or 3 ratio of grain spawn to substrate. Have good moisture content there are videos for that. I cover mix with bubble tape- bubbles facing bottom substrate. I have mycelium growth in 2 days. I had same problem - weeks before growth more chance for contamination- that’s no good. I am still learning and been doing it for over a year! 😂.

@jonnypage9484
@jonnypage9484 2 года назад
Mono tubs are fucking weird only cuz you can go all out or keep it simple . The only thing I recommend a bag or piece of plastic for the mono tub top and make sure it covers the entire length of the opening then tape one side to the monotub itself and then tape the other side to the lid that way when it comes for fanning you can use your makeshift bag fan That's already sterilized That's been chilling in the environment . Not to mention when condensation sticks to the you can call it top lining whatever cracks there are end up causing water droplets to fall so it keeps the humidity an moisture a little better
