Great interview. As a founder member of Undugu Societies of Kenya, we wanted to acquire more instruments for our music band. So I contacted one of the cofounders of Lunna Kidi by the name of Emmanuel Otieno, who was my neighbor, and asked him how we could acquire used music equivalents for our musical group. He gave me Kabassele’s phone number, and I informed him about the purpose of my call. He said that Sunday would morning would be okay. John Fox and I left Makadara office, and headed to Jericho estate where he was residing at the time. We knocked at the door and he proply ushered us in without a a smile . I told him that, Emmanuel, one of your former band mates told me that you had some musical equipments you intended to dispose of. Then Kabasseleh asked me what we wanted to pay for the musical equipments. John Fox interjected and asked him what was intending to sell it for. I don’t recall his asking for, and John Fox gavel him a counter offer which I thought was demeaning and racist. Hajullas got up, opened the door and kicked us out of his house. That was the integrity of a a strong African man.
Very articulate and conclusive! I'm very happy to have the memories of Ochieng Kabaselle back. Thank you mwalimu for providing light where there was darkness, what a show!
Mwalimu Ogolla Oyier, the real guy i knew in early 90s. Very eloquent and articulate with lots of accurate memory. This is very rich and informative interview of putting records right on the Maestro Aljulas Ochieng Nyapanji Ochieng Wuod Ogola. I love this man to the tilt
He taught me physics in form two the year 1990 at Wangapala high school. We used to call him Ogola wuora. He loved singing kabaselleh's songs and zaiko langa langa. Loved football too
Very resourceful video. But you may have to translate/subtitle sections where Oyier Ogola Adoyo talks in Luo language for the benefit of those who don't understand the language
really enjoyed the interview..the bro has a really really sharp memory flawlessly remembering events,names,people,years..he is a walking repository on benga and rumba as well as on his late bro..i would imagine a book by him or him opening a social media page that is part autobiography, part biography and benga history as he witnessed for reference and study..kudos!
An extremely a good interview with deeper informations given. Am lucky to have acquired more informations pertaining the late legend Ochieng Kabasseleh and done away with the false stories relating to his family background, military and music carrier entirely. Towards the end of the interview, Lingala was just lingalaling in full doze.. Congrats
People keep wondering how I know the songs of the old people and my response is always this: 'Good music is just good music it doesn't matter whether you're young or old. Wise thoughts....
