You might have had a guess at it, but this character is modelled after Ringo Sheena, famous Japanese singer. I-No has a lot of similarities with her, including her haircut, height, date of birth, her mole, but most notably, the exact same turquoise Duesenberg guitar. And while Sheena's guitar is named "Dietrich", I-No's guitar is named Marlene, after German-American actress Marlene Dietrich. This character is Daisuke being a pretty big fan.
When daisuke (the creator of guilty gear) performs, he also uses the same kind of blue guitar. Its so awsome lol, like where else can you see the creator of a fighting game get up on stage with his main vocalist and rock out at a fighting game tournament.
I can't get over how much a part of her actual life sounds like a piece of Guilty Gear lore: "Sheena was born with an esophageal atresia in which the esophagus narrows as it approaches the stomach. Treatment of this involved several operations, at least one of which required her right shoulder blade to be cut open. These surgeries left Sheena with large scars on her shoulder blades, said to give the impression that an angel's wings had been removed.[2]"
Ah yes, this should be interesting...I've listen to this song quite a bit, and it's one of my favorite in Strive, both lyrics-wise and instruments-wise(especially that fake-out at the end... *chef's kiss*!) I can't wait to see your reaction to this song, Tony! P.S: After this song, I think you should check out I-NO's OG theme in Guilty Gear: XX - The Midnight Carnival! It kinda has the same vibes as Requiem, but a lot heavier!
Fun fact: she has *three* themes in XX. Shadow Festival is her base theme, Blacklight Babe is her theme in the Korean version, and The Midnight Carnival is her boss theme in all versions of the game.
Makes itself be unique in an... Unique way xd Being considerably the Longest lasting villian of the Series, it has sense so alongside it's kinda aggresive and disconnected energy.
He's got the great gruff and rough sound but the perfect pitch and note reading. To most people it might sound "meh" but to actual singers,he's very good
Tony! I've been a fan of you for over 2 years now, and I just want to say thank you for making such entertaining videos that I never get tired of. So far, my favorite series that you have covered is definitely Guilty Gear Strive. When you decide to react to another strive song, I would personally recommend listening to "Extras." It's the theme of the character Elphelt, who was basically a being created to destroy humanity for her mother. She instead decides to rebel against her and starts her own death metal band where shes the lead singer.
@@AidenR19 Not exactly true. I take suggestions on RU-vid and Discord. Patreon Tier 5 is the only way to guarantee a video but I have done a ton of vids from youtube suggestions.
I-No's my absolute favorite and main. I think her vocals are meant to sound floaty/dissociated like that bc that's very in line with her attitude - she was created through humanity wishing for a 'better world' during the attack of the Gears, and as a result she can only see the world as imperfect because she's always feeling like things should be better. She's really bitter and cynical as a result, but when she's given godlike power her idea of what to do with it is to give EVERYONE godhood - which, unfortunately, is likely to destroy the world because people's contradictory desires make a 'perfect' world for everyone impossible.
Spoiler alert of the GGST lore: The character (I-no) dies at the end or the story. That's why the song it's called "Requiem". It reflexes her lasts toughts before she dies. Also that's why the end of the song is so normal and pacefully, because that's the moment when she dies. Pd: sorry for the late comment, i saw the video when it was released, but i tought it'll be nice to explain the song meaning. :)
17:22 Now I'm just repeating what I've heard elsewhere, but I think I can provide a bit of an answer to that question. And you're absolutely right to be picking up on how it's pretty unusual. By my understanding, most to all of Guilty Gear's songs are first arranged instrumentally by Daisuke Ishiwatari, the series' original creator, lead composer, and artist/designer for a number of the characters. But despite the fact that he's chosen to have Guilty Gear's songs preformed in English (Probably due to how he's been a huge fan of Western rock and metal music for most of his life), he's not actually fluent in English himself. So what he does next is write a very rough draft of the lyrics in Japanese which serve as a sort of guideline for what meanings he wants the lyrics to convey and the general sort of vocal flow he's going for, then someone else comes in and builds that into the final English lyrics for the song, and finally hands that over to another Japanese man with a questionable understanding of English -Naoki- to preform. I wish I could tell you more about how they go about that translation process and who's involved in it, but that much I don't know. All and all they're doing a great job and I love the stuff they're putting out, but yeah, that's why you'll occasionally notice little quirks in the phrasing and pronunciation of the lyrics that doesn't *quite* mesh with what we're used to as English speakers. The most infamous probably being how in Smell of the Game it 100% sounds like he says "That is bullshit blazing! Still my heart is blazing!" rather than "That is bullshit! Blazing, still my heart is blazing!"
I-No is one of my favorite characters, I love her attitude. This weekend is the main tournament for fighting games in Vegas, out of all the songs you've listened to do you have a character that is your favorite or one you'd want to win?
Yess finally got to my favorite character! I knew he was going to have a ton to talk about the guitar work in this one and I was NOT disappointed. Fitting for I-No, the baddest bitch in Guilty Gear.
Tony, you should really consider listening to some of the music from the game Asura's Wrath if you haven't already. It's so good!! I've never felt so empowered by a game soundtrack before.
Bro I hope you haven't done too much ZTMY on stream / just had a listen in general cus I'm in need of more... I LOVE the kind of reaction-analysis you do and Zutomayo's more action-packed / richer songs are so good from that view!
I agree about feeling like some parts don’t line up on a first listen. This used to be my most disliked track until I really locked in. It’s like some weird musical trick they’re doing to make it feel disjointed and unrelated.
I-no's theme Guilty Gear X2: Reload is also a brilliant instrumental banger you'd love, Tony... BUT! The real magic is gonna be in Slayer's GG Strive theme - can't wait for you to react to that one 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Dude, unrelated to the video but you need to listen to Sheena Ringo. You've already to listened to many japanese artists that she directly inspired, like Ado that is great but Sheena is on a completely different level.
Yo, top subscribers and Patreons. Someone please tell him to listen and watch...: Old Gods of Asgard - Herald of Darkness from Alan Wake 2. This is long overdue and only you moneybag dudes can make it happen. Please, he needs to experience this.
I got into Guilty Gear because I found out there's a hard rock witch, which is such a banger aesthetic, so this was more or less the first song I was properly exposed to, practising with I-no, and it got me into listening to the GG soundtrack on an almost daily basis. I love this song a lot. It's weird, although not as weird as some of the DLC songs, but I think it has a fairly unique identity, which is fun, because when I listen to this song, I am much less able to grasp I-no's character than, say, Baiken's or Leo's when listening to their songs. And I think that fits perfectly, because I-no's thing in Strive is that she's basically an accident. An existence without a purpose, just kinda wandering around, doing whatever, hoping it'll help or at least entertain her (at least that's how I remember it. It's been a bit), so I think the song fits her perfectly. It's her Requiem, yet it feels a little floaty, only really resolving in the last sentence or so, and even then it's more of a "hopefully things in the now are the way they are because they mean that", which is much less definitive than Bridget's "I finally accepted myself and I'm happier for it". This song, to me at least, is weird, a bit confusing, and all over the place (purposefully so, I think. Like, this is not a criticism) and yet it goes insanely hard. A wonderful song for one of my favorite characters. But also, I can't really express my thoughts on this song, well, I never settled on an actual opinion beyond "it goes hard, it really fits I-no, and I love it", so my rambling probably doesn't make much sense.
