I have no excuse for waiting fifteen years to post this.
Music for Musicians: or, How to Make a 60 Minute Album in Under 8 Hours for About $200, presented by The Dan Huff Solo Experiments (from 2008) is probably the most important thing I will ever create. It's raw. It's pure. If it encourages you to make your own music, then it has achieved its purpose.
You can download the entire album if you search long enough. If you want a physical copy, there's about 100 of them out there somewhere. I remember tacking them to bulletin boards and putting them in retail display boomboxes, so they are out there somewhere.
More or less info available on Discogs.
The original release had a white paper sleeve with a white insert iirc. There were some variants, like the "christmas edition" shown here. Later copies came in a standard jewel case with a map of Salem and the surrounding area.
The Compact Disc graphic is the same in all editions, just the barcode.

Very informative for musicians just starting out. The truth that successful performers don't want you to know. They spend a lot of their time taking about about quality instruments, state of the art practice and their recording spaces and other things such as aggressive managers and eating at the right restaurants. Truth is, they started out just as you did, playing in their car and recording on cheap casserole recorders. It's time we exposed the myths.

Technology has changed over the last 15 years. If I were to do this album now, I'd probably suggest recording on a burner phone. There's some important reminders on here for more advanced musicians, too- too many worry about 'perfection' and wind up sounding sterile or not finishing anything. Sometimes, you just have to let er rip and see what happens. I'll take a true emotional performance over perfection every time.

A lot of us had a lot of raw talent when we started. As we became aware of what we were doing we lost some of it and had to learn how to let go and trust our abilities. We are capable of doing both, When I record getting the right energy is my greatest concern. It has to come across without being forced. One always has to avoid working on the same piece too long, and losing what you put in that made it special.
