There's no such thing as "Guitars without borders". Good thing you have produced SO many videos so we can use the knowledge you share to 'help us' to fix it ourselves. The real problem with the Easter long weekend in the US... it doesn't exist. Welcome back Dave!
Have missed you, Dave. Sure, I watch the Friday videos, but you working on guitars is what I like best. I've learned so much that I no longer have someone do my setups. Thanks for that.
I’m glad Dave mentioned the sound of the creaking being normal on the truss rod anytime I hear it I feel like I just damaged my neck but it always seems to do the job
Started playing drums when I was 13 I immediately learned how to tune the Skins every aspect of my drums. I knew exactly what I needed and what I didn't need and what to adjusting whatnot to adjust hi hat pedals everything didn't want to have to count on anybody else to play my drums. it's necessity to be able to tune up your own equipment, unless of course you're Eddie Van Halen then you have guitar technicians but Ed didn't need a guitar tech. So now that I'm playing guitar I did the same thing. adjust and repair my own guitars thanks to Dave thank you Dave's World of fun stuff and God bless you.
Welcome back Dave. I was just wondering the other day where you've been. Good to see your smiling face. What's the update on your memory after the accident? Seems like your doing a lot better which I'm glad to see. Cheers!!!!
Loving the solid colour and matching headstock! ONE pickup - and FOUR controls? Only at the 9:27 mark and maybe all will be revealed by you commenting as you work on it. Never ever had a MusicMan in my hands… 😮
Interesting story about Leo Fender and Music Man. Thank you, Dave! FWIW, Ernie Ball's website says to apply the capo to the second fret (not the first)-does that make much of a difference?
hope your health is well my friend.....just recently got a Sterling SubRay 5 hh that was a bit hard to get worked out glad i came across this today....its a single action though and brand new
Dave, I work in the business and the thing people don’t realize with international shipping is Customs. Sure, you can ship anything anywhere. But the minute Customs has your item, you play the waiting game. So you want to ship a guitar to Dave? You could be waiting a few days to a few months. Basically, it’s their discretion as to when they decide to process your item. Then it clears its way to Dave for the work. You have to wait until Dave’s done. Then Dave packs it all away and does all the same paperwork you did when you shipped it to him. Then it goes BACK to Customs to re-enter YOUR country. If anything, and I mean ANYTHING is wrong with your paperwork and the item, you’re gonna have to fight Customs over it. Also, if for WHATEVER reason the item doesn’t enter the country, your item is either returned to you AT COST plus duties and taxes or gets confiscated and destroyed for trying to enter the country “illegally”. If you’ve tried to send Dave a priceless Martin and Customs says no, you may as well kiss your Martin goodbye. So guys whenever you think about sending Dave some work from overseas, do consider what I’ve mentioned to you as well as the points Dave made about the shipping companies not giving one iota of concern for your instrument.
I find the truss rod adjustment on my Stingray to be pretty sensitive ... easy to go too far and have to back off. Just like Dave did. Also the neck weebles and wobbles with humidity changes a lot more than any of my other instruments.
@@InjectBleach It does actually. In late spring and summer it becomes unplayable with the strings almost on the fretboard. A little adjustment and it's good to go but ... in the winter the action goes waay up. Tweak the truss rod back and again, it's good to go.
How do you keep your home humidified in Toronto beyond just the humidifier unit on the furnace? I would think keeping it humid enough to not destroy a guitar would be an extra step.
First and foremost, so happy you're feeling better, or at least up to making a video Dave! Also happy that a northern neighbor sent this beauty to you for a set-up, love the tone on Music Man basses. I gave a gripe though- the company never made a model with a Jazz type neck, at least not to my knowledge. I prefer the 1&1/2" neck up at the nut, so much so that I found a G&L SB 2-T as a back up to my old Jazz. It doesn't growl anything like a MM but I've found some excellent tones with it (thanks Leo!). So I hope the bass player that brought it enjoys playing it with an official DWOFS set-up, rip it up brother (or sister).
Before the dispose of our info-webs, I kept meself a folded slice of paper underneafth the truss rod cover, w/ the (standing behind the bass) tightening & loosening directional arrows for those seasonal & ever so oftenal adjustments.
@David Smythe 😂 That's like saying "Unicorns gave horses the ability to gallop." I'm sure Dave acquired his talents like everyone else... By learning them. No fictional characters needed.
That’s a good looking Stingray. I like the color. Usually I don’t like the egg shaped pick guard. Looks okay on that one. Question: Why four knobs on a one pickup guitar? What do they all do? Thanks Dave. ✌🏼🍻🍀
Hi Dave, thanks for the video! I'm a lefty and had a hankering for one of those that wasn't 800 bucks so I got a clone from China. Overall it's not bad for what I paid, but the holes drilled to hold the electronics faceplate on are too close to the cavity. Any ideas on how to fortify that area? Or if a couple screws take hold should I not care? I was able to make the rest of it fairly nice due largely in part due to your videos. Worked on the nut, sorted out the setup, shielded everything. Thanks for the help!
Very Cool Episode, Thankyou. Nice Looking Bass. I have a Sterling by Music Man SUB Silo3 Electric Guitar which is one of their Budget Friendly 'strat style' guitars. It is an Amazing Quality Built guitar and an absolute pleasure to Play. Stays in Tune, Love it. Cheers
Am I the only one who stands on the neck while I'm adjusting it? Not really, but I'm not going to sit around and wait for it to "settle". When it's fully adjusted and strung, it should still flex. Go ahead and flex it.😊 Love the channel!
Uncle Dave...Please, give us a heads up when you're about to stick your face in the camera. Thank you very much and have a nice Bleeping day. Good to see ya 😛 If you need more $$ to help that kid, I will cover it.
Dave... I busk outside an LCBO. Instead of one day holiday... dat lika sto was closed fri, sun and closed at 6 on monday !!! How a guy do earn a quarter ?!?!?
Just like you brother…went to Catholic school until 3 months into 9th grade when I was literally kicked out on my ass 😂. I can’t believe I put up with it for as long as I did. Like the new look buddy. Cheers! BTW, anyone needing custom, affordable necks, check out another South Jersey neighbor: Parklane guitars (no affiliation). Gorgeous work
Great setup as always on this bass. Original musicman guitars were not good. But as dave said the amps were great. I bought in 1975 a musicman 2x12 130 hd amp at at 130 watts it smoked the fender twin reverb. I used it for 5 years in the band I played in. Great amp. Thanks dave for the video. Been a while!
Totally normal. The noise is just the wood moving oh-so-slightly when the rod is tightened or loosened. The best analogy is crackling volume and tone pots. They get that way from lack of use. once they're "exercised", the crackle goes away, unless DeOxIt is needed to clean the electronicals.
Addressing the shipping issues only: I was in my luthier friend's shop about a year ago when he received a $35K 1920's Gibson Loar Mandolin via Fed-Ex for repair. He said that as long as the item is shipped Fed-Ex next day air, scheduled and insured, it's virtually unheard of for the item to be damaged, and he has never had a bad experience with them. Just a note for the viewers.
Dave really is amazing, but surely to goodness there are good techs south of the border as well. I mean, you guys INVENTED the electric guitar so there should be people that can fix them.
I understand. Life has a way of hardening our hearts, but you don’t have to love religion to have a relationship with God. And the good news is that He loves you, even if you don’t return the feeling at this point in your journey.
@@myoptik3x103 try living without religion. Turns out it's the same as cigarettes - once you quit and some time passes it turns out you don't need it, don't miss it and don't understood why you thought you needed it before. PS - there's much more space in the heart for being sensitive to the good and the evil, the beauty and the mundanity of the world, actual real time vivid life and the wonders of reality and appreciation of your short presence in it, when you're not obsessing over one Jesus book over and over again and gambling away appreciation of what you got here by betting on the supposed "next, better, eternal life". Religions are just overgrown cults and will always tell you that non-religious people have hardened hearts, otherwise you might entertain the idea that you can live a good life without it.
The Stingray using the truss rod adjustment wheel is the easiest truss rod to adjust on any bass made. Never buy a bass that requires the neck to be taken off to adjust it. Just stupid.
So I guess it would be better to just send you air fare and limo service to and from both airports and put you up at a nice hotel so you could service a guitar. (Not to mention your fee and an appropriate “per diem”.). Or not.
You want to talk about religion hijacking a weekend? Lets talk about the 3 months Xmas dominates out of every. freaking.year. No, let's not. Great work Dave.
Dave you don't need religion, you just need to accept the free gift of salvation through the blood of Christ Jesus and you're saved! God bless you, and thanks so much for your awesome videos, you've saved me tons of money and headaches.
@@gryzew Sorry you feel that way. Maybe Christ meant for you to see my post. There are 2 types of people, the saved and the unsaved. Christ died on a cross for the sins of anyone who will accept that free gift of salvation. He loves you just as you are, but he can't call you his own unless you call out to him. He's different from the massive amount of religious leaders that want your money. He just wants your love because he first loved you. I hope you'll think about this because one day, many many decades from now I'd like to see you in heaven!
In the book of Jonah when he was in the belly of the whale he prophesied what Jesus went through in hell when Jesus was in hell. Jesus was our scapegoat and he died for our sins and was raised for our justification
