Music on the Mountain, an outdoor concert held at the Western Residence in Asheville, was a lively celebration of the Fine Tuned program. This initiative, part of the Blue Ridge Music Trails, fosters mentorship and collaboration among emerging artists specializing in traditional music within Western North Carolina.
The event featured a collaboration between The Allen Boys and DaShawn Hickman, deeply rooted in the Sacred Steel Tradition and serving as the house band for the House of God Church in Mount Airy, NC. They teamed up with Kelley Breiding, a multi-instrumentalist and old-time singer, to merge two distinct strains of traditional Surry County music, exploring connections between their styles and other musical genres.
Notably, First Lady Kristin Cooper initiated Music at the Mansion, a video concert series celebrating the diversity of North Carolina's music, as part of the 2019 Year of Music project, Come Hear North Carolina. This series was made possible through the generous support of the North Carolina Arts Foundation.
