Missed you guys! Been taking a break for a week after the FF7 Remake Top 10 video (that one wrecked me with work). Then I got a bit busy with other things for the days after that, but finally I managed to shoot this reaction to this amazing song. Quite frankly, there's plenty more to tell about this track but I always want to keep videos as concise as possible (or at least, I try!). Hope you'll discover something cool through this one.
You should listen to 'Collective Consciousness' too. It feels heavy, it feels oppressive, and it feels overwhelming, just like Armstrong and Excelsus. It contrasts 'Rules of Nature' and 'It Has to be This Way' extremely well.
Yessir, the beta versions of the songs r amazing too, crazy part is this game is almost 10 years old, and yet there's still hype (I was just playing a few mins ago)

What adds to the awesomeness is how they implement the vocals "RULES OF NATURE", Ray swings it's huge sword at you and you block it while he screams RULES OF NATURE!!
It’s also worth noting the game actually holds off the big “RULES OF NATURE” scream until a particular set piece moment in that fight - it’ll just loop what comes before it until you activate it, leading to a perfect sync between the music and the action. Not entirely in the realm of composing, but still.
Love this song, but of the whole games soundtrack, A Stranger I Remain has to be my favourite, the melody fits a one on one fight with a sword perfectly, and then the ending just perfectly fits the gameplay of wildly slashing your foe into pieces.

This song slaps so hard, but my favorite song from Revengeance is still "It Has To Be This Way" the vocals are incredible, and I love that bass line. Rules of Nature reminds me of a roller coaster where the beginning is all build-up, and you pause for a moment at the top before you get RULES OF NATURED all the way through the track.
That song was what got me through the final boss. It's so fucking cool yet the lyrics beautifully represent the parallels between Armstrong and Raiden. Fuck, I wanna play Metal Gear Rising again
Real happy you talked about the electronic elements relating to the fact they are cyborgs. This is my favourite detail from all of the songs because Sam doesn't have a lot of electronic elements because he's mostly human. Where as Monsoon, who's body is purely cybernetic and uses *electro*magnetic powers has a theme that uses the most electronic elements I think? Also dubstep.
Not only is this soundtrack amazing, but the way they only kick to lyrics when you reach the last phase of each boss just makes it that much more badass. You only get that RULES OF NATURE drop once RAY tries to smash Raiden into the concrete with its blade arm.
Alex, my friend. Yet again, you blow these reactions and analyses out of the water. I think the thing I like most about your videos, as compared to other music producers, is that while every one I've watched does have interest and enthusiasm for the subject, you are so animated by your love for the music that it not only carries your analysis, but you're vibrantly motive and even make your own small demonstration pieces that have the same vibrant animation as the rest of the video. I don't usually see other music producers doing the same in similar videos. Sure, they make the demonstrations, but they're usually very technical and clean demonstrations, where yours are so bombastic and organic that I GET EXCITED WITH YOU. Legit, after the world stops burning, I should really buy you those drinks I owe you.
Rules of nature share a lot of similarities with "The only thing they fear is you" from doom eternal, they are both flesh & metal feeling and firey at its core

If I had to pick, my personal favorites are: - I'm My Own Master Now - A Stranger I Remain - Stains Of Time However, I know that if I made another video about MGR, it should be about the last boss theme

I think something I love even more in MGRR is that most of the bosses songs except for mainly Ray is that the lyrics generally explain the characters story. For instance, for Mistral it talks about how she was lost and then found herself in Armstrong’s war.
I have to say that I never had as much fun with music as I have when watching your videos. It makes me see these songs with whole new eyes and its just amaizing. I wish back in school teachers would have done a job like you do. Class would have been so freaking amaizing then! Great work there! :D

I actually didn't know that we italians made "I'm Blue". And now I don't know how to feel about it. Mh. Besides, one thing I love about Rules of Nature (that is also present in Collective Consciousness) is how in certain parts (likr the end) the vocals feel like a cleaner growl. And I love that, because I love the energy behind growl but I always end up not appreciating it because it always comes at the cost of melody. Rules of Nature maintains the energy and savagery of growl without sounding like a paper shredder eating wood. I think they achieve this by recording two times, one where the singer is just screaming at the top of his lungs and another where he focuses on the melody, then put them together and edit the volume according to which of the two is supposed to take center stage
I'm a huge fan of this OST and Celldweller. You can probably imagine how big of a smile this video plastered onto my face :D The breakdown of the vocals' sound will definitely help me with my own tracks. Though I don't think I could even come close to the perfection that is Jason Miller's performance. (How do people sing like that without tasting blood?!) I was surprised by how much more electronic elements are in this song! I can barely filter out the different elements even when I know what to listen for. Your ear is so well trained. My respect!
Honestly, every song from the boss fights could make great reaction videos. Especially with the context from the game too, such as Bladewolf howling with the intro to I'm My Own Master Now.

I hope you don’t mind me saying this but cant help to notice that, recently, your reacts/analysis videos feel kinda rush, and im not talking about the length or production but rather the explanations you do for us. Perhaps it’s all about the music you are talking about, but then again on previous head bangers like The Twinning or Weight of the World (FFXIV) they just didn’t felt that way. When the music rolls it feels like it's talking about the Ray fighting, then it gets cut by Raiden with the 'RULES OF NATURE' line feeling like a turn of the table. Like the singer is also shouting vein popping, head exploding STOP, or ENOUGH. Communicating in the purest anime fashion, "You didn't even have the smallest remote speck of a chance of winning here." The charisma is overwhelmingly absolute and final. Marge potato meme: I just think they're neat.
I love this resurgence of people playing and enjoying the game recently. Mostly seeing how much you enjoy the music in the game it’s so genuine and amazing 😂👍🏼

Every song in MGR is a banger. This video alone's given me the idea of redownloading it to reexperience everything. Great analysis. I get recommended vgm analysis videos every so often, but you're one of they few who goes in-depth. Great job! If you're also looking for a song to do next, I'd highly recommend God Shattering Star from Fire Emblem:Three Houses. It's quickly risen to be one of the best final chapter themes in the series, and for good reason.

Legit though, every time I do play MGR (Which is at least once a year) That RULES OF NATURE part literally gives me chills. It's so god damn awesome- fantastic analysis as usual Alex!
I think the most impressive thing about the entirety of MGR's OST is the way it's mixed throughout the gameplay, most notably the bossfights, having the vocals kick in to essentially reward good play as well as underline the most important moments, in the terms of this fight having vocals boosted as the ''RULES OF NATURE!'' bar kicks in while Raiden is for all intents and purposes suplexing a goddamn mecha.
Thank you for doing one of my favorite tracks in one of my favorite games. and You are right, this game IS sick. Its too bad in my speedruns the songs are over too fast in those boss fights. lol.
Every part of this sound track is a serve. This, the final boss theme, even just the level themes... I've loved MGS music, but the MGR ost sent me several times during my playthrough.

absolutely adore MGRR's soundrack but honestly i have a tough time enjoying it as much out of game, like it really just "musics" better in the heat of combat than anywhere else, especially with the vocals coming in and out with context

I love this game and its sound track for many reasons, but one that I have to always love it for is that the lyrics are exposition for characters as well as a badass theme, like A Stranger I Remain with lyrics singing about how Mistral was given purpose through the ideals of her boss and given a cause to fight for, as well as The Only Thing I Know For Real's lyrics going on about Sam forgetting who he was and in the end he just wanted a fight with Raiden away from all ideals, just a duel between swordsmen. And all the instruments mixing with all of these electric and synth vibes is just perfect, stuff like Stains of Time and It Has To Be This Way, just perfect. This game has a beautiful soundtrack that I will honestly never forget.
The lyrics for all of Revengeance's tracks are quite clever, and Rules of Nature is no exception - it's an encapsulation of the views that Raiden and the Metal Gear express during the fight: this is a struggle to survive, like two wild animals fighting, with no ulterior motives or greater causes - only obeying the 'rules of nature'. The part where the game proceeds to rip Raiden to shreds and force him to grow beyond that is really well communicated thanks to every major enemy he faces having their own theme, exploring their deeper ideas, beliefs, and psychoses.
I recentlly fell in love with "It has to be this way". How everything is just Rising (wink wink), surging, harmonizing. I don't know all the right terms, but I know it's a damn good song.
